Suwon café with decaf coconut coffee and lemon madeleine: Jeong

In short

Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters Haenggung Main Branch is a large roastery café in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, filling everything from basement level 1 to the 4th floor and a rooftop. Arriving on an empty stomach, the writer had the signature coconut coffee switched to decaf and paired it with a lemon madeleine, and the coconut's sweet, nutty flavour sat well with the coffee. Haenggung-dong has no shortage of cafés, but Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters is the one worth returning to for the coffee itself.

It's one of those spots I always stop at when I'm in the neighborhood, so naturally I walked in for a cup of coffee again.

I settled into a seat on the 2nd floor this time. The whole café has such a hip, stylish vibe that it's genuinely fun just to walk around and look.

On the 1st floor especially you can watch them roasting the beans in person — getting close, the coffee aroma was strong and lovely.

What's on the menu and in the dessert showcase?

The menu at this Haenggung-dong café includes Americano, flat white, café latte, vanilla latte, and more, with coconut coffee as the signature item.

There were also plenty of desserts on offer — Basque cheesecake, Earl Grey fig cake, fresh fruit sando, and more. Everything in the showcase looked so good that I thought I should try the cakes next time.

Coconut coffee switched to decaf for an empty stomach

Today's order was coconut coffee (changed to decaf) and a lemon madeleine.

A cup of the signature coconut coffee

Whenever I come to this coffee spot in Haenggung-dong, the coconut coffee is my go-to signature order. Since I was drinking it on an empty stomach this time, I switched it to decaf.

The coconut coffee has that distinctive sweet, nutty coconut flavor that pairs really well with the coffee.

The rich taste of the coffee combined with the smooth feel of the coconut gives it a different charm from a regular latte. Even after a while away, it was just as delicious as I remembered.

The lemon madeleine, which I picked for something light, also went nicely with the coffee. The American-style cookies looked good too — this place isn't just a coffee spot, it's a dessert spot as well.

Is this Suwon café worth a return visit?
