Late brunch army stew before outlet shopping in Paju: Mom's Uijeongbu

In short

Mom's Uijeongbu Budaejjigae is an 80-seat budae jjigae (army stew) and iron-plate dakgalbi restaurant on Pilseung-ro in Tanhyeon-myeon, Paju, close to Heyri Village and Provence. After checking out of a pension and before heading to the outlets, the writer used the kiosk to order two servings of traditional budae jjigae at 11,000 won per person as a late brunch, and the broth was deep and rich enough that rice went into the pot at the end. Mom's Uijeongbu Budaejjigae makes a filling lunch stop on a day out in Paju.

Such a fun trip to Paju! We checked out of our pension around 11am and were looking for somewhere to eat lunch when we found this Heyri Village spot. We were about to head straight to the outlets, but decided to fuel up properly with lunch first before shopping!

Where is Mom's Uijeongbu Budaejjigae, and what are its hours and parking?

Mom's Uijeongbu Budaejjigae is located at 506 Pilseung-ro, Tanhyeon-myeon, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, and is open daily from 09:30 to 20:30, with last order at 20:00. There's a separate parking area out back too, which makes it easy to visit.

We were looking for somewhere close to both our accommodation and the outlets, and that's how we ended up here — Mom's Uijeongbu Budaejjigae. It's also close to Heyri Village and Provence in Paju.

Inside the 80-seat dining room: room for groups too

The interior of Mom's Uijeongbu Budaejjigae is spacious, with fairly generous spacing between tables. With 80 seats, it's great for eating together in a large group. Apparently a lot of people visiting or traveling in this area come here to eat.

Besides budae jjigae, they also serve grilled dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken) on a hot plate, tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties), dumplings, grilled Spam, and more, so it's great for families where everyone can pick what they want. They use Hansuwi Paju rice, and water and side dishes are self-serve.

Ordering traditional budae jjigae for two, plus the rest of the menu

Looking through the menu, we went with the most basic option — two servings of budae jjigae. This Heyri Village favorite has several varieties to choose from depending on your taste: traditional budae jjigae, aged-kimchi budae jjigae, spicy budae jjigae, and chadol (beef brisket) budae jjigae! The pot was loaded with sausage, bean sprouts, meat, kimchi, and more.

Each table has its own broth kettle, and you order at the kiosk. The basic side dishes are set out for you, but if you run out, you can grab more from the self-serve bar.

Haha, we visited early so we ended up eating this as a late brunch, but the place got more crowded the longer we stayed. Definitely a Heyri Village favorite that's perfect for lunch. The basic side dishes were stir-fried fish cake, seasoned bean sprouts, and kimchi.

How the broth tastes and which toppings to add

The traditional budae jjigae at Mom's Uijeongbu Budaejjigae comes with a bowl of rice included — I wanted another bowl but held back. It was packed with sausage and all sorts of ingredients, and once the broth started boiling, that amazing smell filled the air. After checking out, I was hungry and just wanted to dig in right away.

The budae jjigae broth was really deep and rich — clean-tasting too! You can also order extra toppings like sausage or bacon separately. Try adding toppings to match your taste.

My boyfriend and I were so hungry we just inhaled this Heyri Village favorite. Honestly, when traveling we often just grab something quick for breakfast or eat on the go, and that day, rushing to check out and get to outlet shopping, we hadn't eaten properly.

How much it costs: 11,000 won per person

Mom's Uijeongbu Budaejjigae is ₩11,000 per person, so two servings for the two of us came to ₩22,000. Pretty affordable. It was great having such a hearty brunch, and there was a generous amount of sausage too.

Serving up the two portions of budae jjigae

This time we only tried the budae jjigae, but if I go back sometime, I'd love to try the grilled dakgalbi or tteokgalbi too. The broth was rich and the portion was generous. We fished out all the ingredients, and in the end mixed rice into the leftover broth.

It was so good we practically inhaled it. Gotta eat well before shopping, haha! If you're searching for good places near Heyri Village or Provence in Paju, give this one a try. We had a hearty meal of two servings of traditional budae jjigae and headed off to the outlets feeling full.
