Pasta Trio is an Italian pasta restaurant in Seocho, Seoul, a 1-minute walk from Nonhyeon Station Exit 5. Arriving at 6:40pm on a weekday, the wait at Pasta Trio was about 15 minutes, and the solo dinner was burrata cheese basil pesto paccheri at 23,000 won plus spinacini, 4 pieces for 10,000 won. Yeonsinnae beef grill with muksabal and bibim naengmyeon: Golmokjip

Golmokjip Galbisal Yeonsinnae Main Branch is a charcoal beef grill on Yeonseo-ro 27-gil near Yeonsinnae Station in Eunpyeong, Seoul. This was not nostalgia talking — Golmokjip Galbisal tastes even better now, and the writer will pay their own way back.

The nutty oat milk latte was the standout at Lemangdoré, and the same pairing is worth ordering again.

Dinner at a Gongdeok burger restaurant with smoky bacon: Quokka Bite

Quokka Bite is a handmade burger restaurant on Baekbeom-ro 24-gil near Gongdeok and Daeheung stations in Mapo, Seoul. Over dinner the writer ordered two of Quokka Bite's popular burgers, the Grilled Quokka Burger and the Avocado Smash Quokka Burger, and swapped the set fries for sweet potato fries. The chewy, smoky bacon and sweet-salty sweet potato fries were the most memorable part, enough to plan an extra bacon add-on next visit.

Gwanak udon restaurant with a Sunday wait: ten bukkake set at Kosi

Kosi Seoul National University Entrance Branch (코시 서울대입구점) is a house-made udon and tonkatsu restaurant near Exits 5 and 6 of Seoul National University Entrance Station in Gwanak, Seoul. Even arriving after 1:30pm on a Sunday there was still a wait, and the ten bukkake udon set at 16,000 won and the half-and-half katsu set at 17,000 won were eaten at the bar counter. Both the springy house-made udon noodles and the light, not-greasy tonkatsu were excellent, so Kosi is well worth a return visit.

Upper and Under is a large dessert café near Gangnam Station in Seoul, about a 10-minute walk away and close to Sinnonhyeon Station, spread across a whole three-story building. With four kinds of canelé and five kinds of tiramisu in the showcase, the order at Upper and Under was Basque cheesecake, a plain financier, a pistachio cream latte and an iced americano, eaten at a floor-to-ceiling window seat upstairs. Korean BBQ private room for 12 in Gangnam, Seoul: Yuklab Gangnam

Yuklab Gangnam is a charcoal-grilled beef and lamb Korean BBQ restaurant on the second floor near Exit 11 of Gangnam Station in Seoul. Yuklab Gangnam has one private room that seats about 12, window-side tables for four, and a bar table where wine and whiskey corkage is allowed, and the 2-person rib set costs 64,000 won with jingalbisal (marbled beef rib meat), lamb ribs and seasoned ribs grilled in that order. Smoke was drawn away beside the grill, so the room stayed comfortable even with a large group — a solid pick for a team dinner.
