Munjeong Station lash salon: straight-lash 9mm LED set, Lash Doll

Lash Doll Munjeong Station is a lash extension salon specialising in LED extensions in Songpa, Seoul, on basement level 1 of the SK V1 building, connected directly to Munjeong Station underground. The writer, whose natural lashes are very straight, came back for a set with the front lashes at 9mm and the rest at 10mm in a JC curl, and while extensions elsewhere thinned out after a month and a half, the Lash Doll LED set stayed full for two months. Best of all, there was no stinging in the eyes right after the appointment.

Jonggak-ap Nosang Gongyeong Juchajang is a charcoal-grill Korean BBQ restaurant on the 5th floor near Jonggak Station in Jongno, Seoul, where staff grill the meat from start to finish. Dangsan hangover soup spot, ₩9,000 bone soup: Ppyeodaegwi Haejangguk

Dangsan Ppyeodaegwi Haejangguk is a pork bone soup and gamjatang (potato and pork bone stew) restaurant on Seonyu-dong 1-ro, near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station in Seoul. On a hungover Sunday at 4pm, two friends ordered one mild and one spicy bone soup plus an egg roll for ₩30,000, and the ₩9,000 pot was stacked so full of big bones that the rice went unfinished. Of the many soup restaurants along the main road by Yeongdeungpo-gu Office, Dangsan Ppyeodaegwi Haejangguk came out on top.

Hapjeong daytime-drinking BBQ in Seoul: 550g Special2 at Gim Sukseong

Gim Sukseong Hapjeong Branch is an aged Korean pork BBQ restaurant with old-school charm on Yanghwa-ro 8-gil near Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul. On a weekday afternoon the writer ordered the Gim Sukseong Special2 — two servings of 2cm-thick pork neck plus a 250g limited-edition aged cut, 550g in total — grilled tableside by staff from start to finish, then finished with bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) and fried rice. With soju, beer and a full highball lineup, Gim Sukseong Hapjeong Branch makes a satisfying daytime aged-meat course.

Cheonho Station bar in Seoul for whelk hotpot and soju: Bulhyanggi

Bulhyanggi is a charcoal-grilled meat and drinking-snack restaurant near Cheonho Station in Seongnae-dong, Gangdong, Seoul. Stopping in for a second round of soju, the writer ordered the wang golbaengi modeum tang (assorted whelk hotpot) for 39,000 won and oijingeo sundae (stuffed squid), and found the broth from the whelks and mussels sharp and clean, with the squid chewy outside and soft inside. Bulhyanggi works well as a second-round spot for snacks and drinks with friends.

Gyeongdong Market sashimi restaurant set for two: Simdo Hoetjip

Simdo Hoetjip is a live-fish sashimi restaurant near Cheongnyangni and Gyeongdong Market in Dongdaemun, Seoul, on the first floor of the Lotte Castle Firenze commercial building by Exit 3 of Jegi-dong Station. On a Sunday evening two diners ordered the medium flounder and sea bream set (60,000 won), a tasting portion of raw shrimp sashimi (9,900 won) and spicy fish stew (8,000 won) with hand-torn dough flakes added (2,000 won), and the free side dishes alone ran to grilled herring, kimchi pancake, steamed egg and seaweed soup. Simdo Hoetjip is generous enough to fill you up before the sashimi arrives, and the owner will point you to whichever fish is best that day.

Uni Resin (유니레진) is a one-day resin art studio in Eungam-dong, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul. The 25,000-won-per-person gel ring class at Uni Resin covered ring sizing, mixing wax colors and decorating with parts, with the owner demonstrating each step, and a hairpin was made alongside the rings.
