Beautae Esthetic is a skin care salon on the 6th floor of the Hyoryeong Building at 32 Mugyo-ro in Jung-gu, Seoul, a 7-minute walk from City Hall Station. Booking the lunchtime Happy Meal event, the writer had the Multi-Booster treatment: a Blue Exosome ampoule driven in with LDM water-drop lifting, followed by a microcurrent device and a calming pack for dehydration and redness. The part the writer liked most at Beautae Esthetic was the closing consultation, where before-and-after photos showed exactly what had changed.

Seommaeul Agujjim & Nakjibokkeum is a braised monkfish and octopus restaurant on Yuseongdae-ro in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. Seommaeul lets you pick one of four spice levels for its braised dishes — mild, basic, spicy and very spicy — and this visit ordered agujjim (spicy braised monkfish) at basic, about as hot as Shin Ramyun, served with a stone-pot steamed egg, five side dishes and thick chunks of monkfish. With its own large parking lot, group seating and a homemade sikhye (sweet rice punch) dessert corner, Seommaeul is an easy pick for a family meal or a group gathering.

Ansan galbi restaurant with 4-rib galbitang: Cheongnyuok

Cheongnyuok is a large Korean meat restaurant occupying units 109–114 on the ground floor of the Arnev Cube building at Bandalseom in Ansan's Danwon-gu. The plan was 400g of pork belly (samgyeopsal), but the galbitang (beef short rib soup) added after seeing the next table over arrived with four full rib bones, and the dongchimi (radish water kimchi) aged in-house and the mul naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) were just as good. With 5 hours of free parking and a private group room, Cheongnyuok suits company dinners and family gatherings.

Sambaek Hanu Daecheop is a hanwoo (Korean beef) barbecue restaurant near Exit 7 of Yeonsinnae Station in Eunpyeong, Seoul. On a Friday evening, a couple grilled 300g of aged beef rib meat (sogalbisal) at Sambaek Hanu Daecheop and received a free hanwoo chadol (brisket) ramyeon through the Naver receipt review event. 300g was just the right amount for two, and the best part was being able to grill beef at this price without hesitation.

Ungjin Dalseo Dwaeji Gukbap is a pork soup (gukbap) restaurant near Gamsam Station in Dalseo, Daegu, open until 1am with a broth simmered more than 15 hours from 100% Korean pork bones. On a late-night visit the hearty sundae gukbap (blood sausage soup), spicy gukbap and cold jeyuk (chilled sliced boiled pork) all came out clean and nutty, with no gamey smell or heavy grease, and the chewy cold jeyuk paired well with the hot soup. Ungjin Dalseo Dwaeji Gukbap is worth a stop if you want a clear-broth bowl of gukbap late at night.

Gangnam Station lunch date at gyukatsu restaurant Ichigyu: Kirin beer

Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch is a gyukatsu (Japanese beef cutlet) restaurant between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station in Seoul. A couple arrived at 2 PM and ordered the Ichigyu gyukatsu (19,500 won), steki-don (19,500 won) and a 420ml Kirin draft beer (8,000 won), melting Isigny butter on the personal tabletop grill to sear each piece. The gyukatsu came out crisp and the steki-don was tender and juicy, making Ichigyu a satisfying stop on a lunch date course.
