Gwacheon duck BBQ near MMCA, no wait at 1pm: Deo Chadol
In short
Deo Chadol is a duck BBQ restaurant in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi, a 5-minute walk from Seonbawi Station and easy to pair with a trip to Seoul Land or the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) Gwacheon. Visiting at 1pm on the museum's free admission day, the writer ordered the 55,000 won Deo Chadol couple set, served as a course of duck chadol grill (thinly sliced duck), duck jumulleok (spicy stir-fried duck), doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and fried rice. There was no wait at 1pm, but Deo Chadol was full by the time they left, so a Naver reservation is the safer bet.

Where Deo Chadol is and how to get there from Seonbawi Station
Deo Chadol is a duck BBQ restaurant at 5 Dwitgol2-ro, Gwacheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, 1st floor. It's open daily 11:00–21:30 (break time 15:00–17:00, last order 20:30). The National Museum of Modern Art was offering free admission that day, so I rushed over to the Gwacheon branch! Before that, I wanted a good meal, so I stopped by Deo Chadol, said to be a go-to spot near Gwacheon's Seoul Land.

There's a large parking lot right in front of Deo Chadol, but it's also a 5-minute walk from Seonbawi Station, so public transit works fine too. It's just one stop between Seonbawi Station and Daegongwon Station, making it perfect for a day trip.

Is there a wait at Deo Chadol at 1pm?
There was no wait when I walked into Deo Chadol at 1pm. Honestly, no wait at all when we walked in..? We visited at 1pm thinking we'd dodged lunch rush... but guess what? By the time we finished eating and walked out, the place was completely packed with people waiting! I guess we just got lucky with timing. Certified Gwacheon must-visit, bb. So make a reservation ahead of time! Naver Reservations, go go.

Near the entrance there's a waiting-list kiosk along with tea to sip while you wait.

Inside Deo Chadol: seating and private rooms

They mentioned winning an award in the 2024 Gwacheon Restaurant Selection contest.

Right next to it there were a ton of celebrity photos too. My expectations shot up just walking in, haha.

Deo Chadol was pretty spacious, and it's a great spot for family meals. On the left, partitions divide the seating, good for a family of 4–6, and on the right there are tables — two 4-seaters pushed together, which works well for groups too.

If you want more privacy, I'd recommend booking a room. Nice and tidy, good good. There were elderly guests dining inside.
Deo Chadol's self-serve bar and table extras
At Deo Chadol's self-serve bar you can grab unlimited kale and lettuce, which is great. There's also ssamjang (dipping sauce), other sauces, and garlic.

You could tell they'd thought about the details in a lot of spots — a smartphone UV charger, mouthwash, hair ties, stain remover, and even baby chairs and booster seats are available if you need them.
All the chairs have storage space underneath for bags, and if you need extra plastic bags, just ask and they'll bring some.

What comes in the 55,000 won Deo Chadol couple set
We ordered the Deo Chadol couple set for ₩55,000. Each table has a kiosk, so we ordered right away. The lunch menu had some interesting options like duck jjajang (black bean noodles) and duck jjamppong (spicy seafood noodles) that had me briefly tempted, but since it was our first visit, I went with ✔️ the ₩55,000 Deo Chadol couple set. It includes duck chadolbagi + duck jumulleok + fried rice + doenjang jjigae, and you can pay extra to swap out the sides.

First, the ssam (wrap) greens and side dishes arrive. Need more? Just help yourself at the self-serve bar!

First course: duck chadol grill
The first item, duck chadolbagi, comes out, along with mushrooms, onions, and minari (water celery).
You can tell at a glance it's almost all lean meat, barely any fat..!?!? Maybe that's why it's so nutty and just tender enough that your chopsticks won't stop moving ;;
You can dip it in just a bit of salt like this and it's great.

Or dip it in Deo Chadol's own special sauce — a chili-based, sweet and tangy sauce!
The combo of minari and pickled perilla leaves also gets a thumbs up! I didn't get it in the photos, but personally, wrapping it in lettuce and kale together was my favorite.
Second course: duck jumulleok, spicy stir-fried duck
Don't give up yet. Next up is the second course, duck jumulleok.

It's raw duck, but it cooks faster than expected, so you won't get too full before it's done. Cabbage, sweet potato, rice cakes and other extras go in too.

The tender duck paired really well with the healthy, spicy flavor. It's a jeyuk-bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork) style sauce, but it leaned more clean and mild rather than harsh.

Wrapped in a lettuce leaf is still the way to go, bb.
Doenjang jjigae and the fried rice finish
They also served doenjang jjigae, packed generously with tofu, zucchini and more — the overall healthy flavor was nice! Not too salty or heavy, an easygoing taste for all ages.

Gotta finish strong with dessert-round fried rice. Honestly I was already full and said I couldn't eat any of the fried rice... and I really barely did. But my friend who came with me scraped the whole pan clean, saying it was too good to leave behind. Mind you, this friend had eaten a full meal just 2 hours earlier and said they had no appetite...

Why Deo Chadol fits a Seoul Land or MMCA Gwacheon day trip
Since Deo Chadol is right near Seoul Land, Seoul Grand Park, and the National Museum of Modern Art Gwacheon, it made for an easy stop to add to the day. Next time, I'm definitely trying the duck jjajang...!!
