Today, I’m sharing our visit to Susan Jang, a great spot near Yeongtong Station for a generous spread of fresh sashimi and seafood. Rather than being a sashimi-only restaurant, it has everything from fresh seafood and grilled dishes to pasta and chicken, so it was ideal for visiting as a group and ordering a little of this and that. We went with the kids, and there were dishes they could enjoy too, which made it a satisfying family dinner spot.
Susan Jang in an alley off Yeongtong’s central shopping district
Follow the alleys around Yeongtong’s central shopping district and you’ll come across Susan Jang, with its wood-finished exterior. It sits between Chang Restaurant and Makchangini. There’s a fish tank out front, along with a standing sign listing recommended dishes, so even before going in, it really feels like a seafood specialist!

Seeing the seafood in the tank especially got me excited that we were about to enjoy it at its freshest. It’s a place worth noting if you’re looking for sashimi or seafood with a drink near Yeongtong Station.

A comfortable, lively interior at Susan Jang

Inside, the space extends farther back than I expected, with table seating as well as bar-style seats. The warm wood tones and lighting made it feel comfortable yet lively. The kitchen is open too, so you can watch the food being prepared. It felt easygoing whether you’re stopping by for a casual drink with friends or, like us, having a meal and a drink with the kids.

Three dishes ordered by tablet
You order using the tablet at each table. We chose three dishes: the Susan Jang Assorted Platter for ₩45,000, grilled mero for ₩29,000, and Cheese Susan Chicken Barbecue for ₩22,000. With sashimi and seafood, grilled fish, and chicken all covered, we really got to enjoy a bit of everything.

Before the mains arrived, beautifully golden grilled flounder came out first. But this wasn’t something we had ordered—it was complimentary! They brought out whole fish, and gave us two of them 🫢 The lightly grilled flounder was mild and easy to eat, so the kids loved it.

The Susan Jang Assorted Platter with sashimi and seafood
At last, the Susan Jang Assorted Platter arrived. The plate was filled with sashimi and seafood, and it caught everyone’s eye the moment it hit the table. I was told that this platter lets you enjoy seasonal fish delivered fresh each morning alongside fresh fish and seafood. Instead of just one kind of sashimi, you can taste several varieties along with seafood, making it perfect for anyone who wants to try lots of different things.

Each slice of sashimi was nicely thick and had a fresh sheen to it. It had a lovely chew, and it was fun alternating between mild sashimi and seafood with their different textures.

There were shellfish, including scallops, too, so the selection truly lived up to the name “assorted platter.” The scallops came in their shells for a great presentation, and the plump adductor muscle was delicious in one bite. For seafood lovers like us, this dish alone made a proper drinking snack. If you want sashimi and a range of seafood all at once, I think the Susan Jang Assorted Platter is definitely worth ordering.
Thick, tender grilled mero
Next was the grilled mero, which was one of my personal favorites. From the moment it arrived, the mero was bigger than I had expected, so it immediately caught my eye. The golden-grilled mero came generously arranged on one platter with vegetables, mushrooms, and sides. When I lifted off a big piece with my chopsticks, its thick flesh was right there!

The outside was golden and nutty, while the inside was moist and tender, practically melting in the mouth. The mero’s characteristic rich, soft flavor kept drawing me back for more. Pairing it with the mushrooms and vegetables added different textures along the way, so it stayed delicious right to the last bite.
The kids finished a whole bowl of rice
Since we had come with the kids, it was important to see whether there would be dishes for them too. I picked the meat from the flounder and grilled mero and served it with rice, and both kids ate really well. The fish itself was soft and mild, so it wasn’t at all difficult for them to eat.
Sweet-spicy Cheese Susan Chicken Barbecue
And our final order was the Cheese Susan Chicken Barbecue! It’s a special chicken barbecue dish made with Susan Jang’s house sauce. At first I wondered, chicken barbecue at a seafood restaurant? But once I tasted it, I understood why people order it alongside the seafood.
The chicken was thoroughly coated in red sauce and topped generously with cheese. Lift it while it’s hot and the cheese stretches right out—it looks seriously appetite-inducing from the start.

The large pieces of smoked chicken were well infused with the sweet-spicy house sauce, while the savory cheese softened the heat, and the combination worked really well. The onions underneath were delicious with the sauce too. Having a warm, spicy dish in between the sashimi and seafood made the whole meal feel even more abundant.
And with food like this, you can’t leave out a shot of soju :) A slice of fresh sashimi and a drink, then some spicy Cheese Susan Chicken Barbecue and another drink! With so many dishes that pair well with alcohol, it would also suit anyone looking for a dinner date or drinks spot near Yeongtong Station.

A generous table, from sashimi to the kids’ meal
What I liked about Susan Jang was that it isn’t just a place for fresh sashimi and seafood—you can enjoy a range of dishes, including grilled mero and Cheese Susan Chicken Barbecue. I especially want to recommend the Susan Jang Assorted Platter to seafood lovers because it lets you taste so many kinds of sashimi and seafood at once. The thick, tender grilled mero was also a particularly satisfying dish for our family, since the kids loved it with rice.

From the complimentary grilled flounder to assorted sashimi and seafood, grilled mero, and spicy Cheese Susan Chicken Barbecue, it was such a generous dinner spread! If you’re looking for a place to enjoy fresh seafood alongside a variety of dishes for drinks, Susan Jang could be a great visit.
