Where is Cafe Pomun and what is the space like?

Cafe Pomun is a café and dessert spot at 58-26 Chudam-ro, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. I was looking for a café with a good atmosphere in Pyeongtaek and this time I visited Cafe Pomun. The space is split into a standalone main building and a separate annex, so even before stepping inside I could tell it was a fairly sizeable place. There's also parking available, so it was convenient to visit by car.

The first thing I saw when I arrived was the café's exterior and surroundings. There's parking around the main building, and the building itself stands alone, giving it a different feel from a typical storefront café.

From the outside it looks clean and calm, but once you step in you get a completely different vibe from the interior. Having a separate main building and annex is one of Cafe Pomun's defining features.

Inside the main building: old TVs and mirror props

What impressed me most at Cafe Pomun was definitely the main building's interior. It's clearly different from the clean white or minimalist interiors you see at most cafés these days. Overall it's centered on toned-down brown and wood colors, giving off a warm yet calm feeling. Other visit reviews also describe the main building as a cozy space in deep brown and wood tones.

And scattered around the space were these retro props that caught my eye.

In particular, props like old TVs and mirrors were placed throughout the space, so it wasn't just a wood-toned café — it had a genuine retro feel. Since these old items are hard to find these days, they actually felt fresh, and I had fun looking around at what props were nearby, not just sitting and drinking my beverage.

The mirrors, too, felt less like a functional interior piece and more like an accent that brought out the mood of the space. I thought that if these props showed up in photos, they'd capture Cafe Pomun's unique atmosphere even better. Overall it wasn't flashily decorated but rather vintage and comfortable, a space where you could stay a long time without feeling out of place.

What are the second-floor seats at Cafe Pomun like?

Cafe Pomun's main building has seating not just on the 1st floor but also on the 2nd floor. Going up, the same warm wood-toned atmosphere continued as on the 1st floor, and the space was bigger than I expected. Other visit reviews also mention that the 2nd floor is spacious and has a sense of openness thanks to the large windows. It seemed like a good spot to sit quietly and chat, or to spend time over coffee and dessert. If you especially like window seats, the 2nd floor is worth checking out too.

Four things ordered at Cafe Pomun

Cafe Pomun offers not just coffee but a variety of desserts like madeleines, financiers, canelés, and cakes.

On my visit, what I ordered was

these four items.

Summer matcha and the 7,500 won ice cream latte

I tried the summer matcha first. I like matcha, so I always look for matcha items at cafés, and Cafe Pomun had summer matcha as a seasonal item. If you like the distinctive aroma and flavor of matcha, this was a great pairing with dessert. It's a matcha latte topped with matcha ice cream, and the rich, sweet matcha flavor was delicious. It also shared a matcha connection with the chestnut matcha chocolate cake I ordered that day, so they went well together.

Next is the ice cream latte. Cafe Pomun's ice cream latte is described as coming topped with Ben & Jerry's ice cream, priced at ₩7,500. With ice cream sitting on top of the latte, the visual stood out too. It's a good option when you want coffee and something sweet at once, and there was fun in eating the ice cream and latte together.

Lemon madeleine

Among the desserts, I also picked the lemon madeleine. Cafe Pomun has not just lemon madeleine but also lemon custard madeleine, Earl Grey white chocolate madeleine, dirty chocolate madeleine, and more, so if you like baked treats there's plenty of fun in choosing. The lemon madeleine had that distinctive refreshing lemon flavor, which paired well with coffee or a latte. The size was also modest, making it a nice light dessert to enjoy alongside a drink.

Chestnut matcha chocolate cake, 8,500 won

And the item I was most curious about on this visit was the chestnut matcha chocolate cake! The name includes chestnut, matcha, and chocolate all together, so I was curious what the combination would be like. It's a cake with matcha and chocolate flavors plus chestnut, so it felt different from a regular chocolate cake. According to the menu info currently available, the chestnut matcha chocolate cake is ₩8,500 and is being offered as a seasonal item starting in September. If you like matcha or chocolate desserts, this is a cake whose name alone would catch your eye.

Placing the cake and summer matcha together for a photo, the colors matched nicely, so it was fun to photograph too.

How does the annex differ from the main building?

It would have felt like something was missing to leave Cafe Pomun after only seeing the main building, so I checked out the annex too. The main building and annex are separate buildings, and the annex offers a completely different atmosphere from the main building. In particular, the annex is a space made in collaboration between Cafe Pomun and a furniture brand.

Inside, the annex is a bit different from the main building's retro feel, using wood-toned furniture, high ceilings, and large windows for a sense of openness. During times when the sunlight comes in, natural light adds to the space, making it look great for photos too. If the main building is about enjoying the retro props like old TVs and mirrors, the annex is more about enjoying the furniture and the space itself.

Is Cafe Pomun in Pyeongtaek worth a visit?

This time at Cafe Pomun I tried a variety of drinks and desserts — summer matcha, ice cream latte, lemon madeleine, and chestnut matcha chocolate cake. Above all, what stuck with me was Cafe Pomun's unique atmosphere. Unlike the clean, trendy cafés popular these days, the main building had retro props like old TVs and mirrors placed throughout, which was fun to browse, and the deep brown and wood tones blended together for a warm, cozy feel.

The annex, on the other hand, made together with DEUL, let me focus a bit more on the furniture and the space itself, and the large windows and high ceilings gave it a charm quite different from the main building. With such a wide range of drinks and desserts, I thought this was a café better suited to picking out a drink and dessert together and taking your time, rather than just stopping by for a single cup of coffee.

If you're looking for a café in Pyeongtaek with a different vibe from the usual modern spots, or want to take photos in a retro setting while enjoying dessert, Cafe Pomun is worth a look. In particular, I felt that the retro props in the main building — the old TVs and mirrors especially — best captured Cafe Pomun's atmosphere. Next time I'd like to try the financiers and other seasonal desserts I didn't get to this time.
