Thai restaurant in Seongdong, Seoul with tender beef pho: Soi Nana

In short

Soi Nana is a Thai restaurant in Seongdong, Seoul, near Seongsu Station. On a weekday evening, I had its chunky yet tender beef pho and rich, mild pu pad pong curry in a tropical wood-and-rattan setting. Verdict: a nice choice for a Thai dinner in Seongsu with atmosphere included.

After work one weekday evening, I went to Soi Nana in Seongsu with my bestie for dinner. Seongsu has lots of office workers, so it gets busy with people eating out at weekday lunch. Soi Nana is fairly busy at lunchtime too, so I visited in the comparatively quieter evening.

They serve a range of Thai dishes including pho, pu pad pong curry, pad thai, and bun cha. With its tropical-looking décor too, it was a nice place to head to when I was craving Thai food in Seongsu.

Soi Nana is a five-minute walk from Exit 2 of Seongsu Station, a Thai restaurant that works well at different times of day, from lunch for Seongsu office workers to dinner after work.

A tropical atmosphere with wood and rattan

The tropical feel at Soi Nana started right at the entrance.

Outside, there were palm-tree-shaped decorations, wooden tables, and rattan chairs, with the green Soi Nana sign catching my eye.

If there is a lunch wait, you can write your name by hand on the waiting list at the outdoor table here...

Inside, the furniture was also wood and rattan, with plant décor and warm lighting adding up to an overall cozy atmosphere.

There were bar-style seats as well as regular tables, so the space did not feel monotonous either.

These bar seats especially had a bit of an outdoor-night-market feel, which would be so nice as the weather starts to turn autumnal~~ The setting suits Thai food so well that I would recommend it as a Seongsu date spot for anyone who wants to enjoy the atmosphere along with the meal.

Arongsatae pho and pu pad pong curry

That day, I ordered arongsatae pho and pu pad pong curry.

Arongsatae beef pho

Arongsatae beef pho

Soi Nana's arongsatae beef pho looked different from other bowls of pho right from the start. First of all, the meat is big. Not those paper-thin slices... proper chunks...

Large pieces of arongsatae beef

But it was not tough at all~ It was tender with a pleasantly chewy texture, I would say?

Arongsatae pho with bean sprouts

Because the meat came in big pieces, it had a satisfying bite with the noodles, and I loved that there was plenty of bean sprouts too.

I tend to prefer bean sprouts to noodles, so I loaded the broth, noodles, and meat with them. Their crisp texture was a lovely addition. The broth was not overly seasoned either, just nicely balanced and easy to eat...

Pu pad pong curry is a dish with soft-shell crab, and the soft-shell crab was really tender.

The curry had lots of buttery coconut flavor, with such a deeply rich, mellow taste~~

The rice that came with it was topped with garlic flakes. When I spooned the pu pad pong curry over it, the occasional bite of garlic aroma made it even tastier. The curry had absolutely zero heat, so it could become a little rich as you eat, but...

Pickled onions served with curry

At that point, one bite of the pickled onions served as a side dish makes everything feel so refreshing~~~!!!

Draft beer served with Thai food

And with a sip of the ice-cold~~ draft beer we ordered... ahhh~~~~ it felt like the day's fatigue just melted awaaay~~, you know?

Why it works for lunch and dinner

Soi Nana is a Thai restaurant that works well for Seongsu office workers at lunchtime. There are easy lunch options such as pho, as well as pu pad pong curry, pad thai, bun cha, fried rice, and more, so there is a good range to choose from.

It would suit office workers looking for a good lunch in Seongsu or anyone wanting something different from the usual midday meal. In the evening, the warm lights and tropical atmosphere make dining feel different from lunch, so I would recommend it when looking for a Seongsu date spot too!
