Uijeongbu donkatsu restaurant with fruity sauce: Yangchonri Millak
In short
Yangchonri Donkaseu Millak Branch is an old-school Western-style donkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant in Millak-dong, Uijeongbu, on the 2nd floor of Jeil Pungkyungchae Millak Town, directly above the Starbucks. The 2-person Set No. 6 — Yangchonri pork cutlet, flame-grilled baby octopus rice bowl and grandma's udon — costs ₩31,800, and the cutlet sauce was poured over the top in the retro style, with a sweet apple- or pineapple-like fruit scent as the standout. Alternating between the crisp cutlet and the smoky octopus kept the lunch from ever feeling too rich.

Today, while picking up a shirt I'd had made, I stopped by a pork cutlet spot in Uijeongbu. I'd been craving old-school pork cutlet for a while, and I found a place with house-made sauce and a variety of rice bowl dishes, so I went! I visited 'Yangchonri Donkaseu Millak Branch' ^^

The pork cutlet place is right above the Starbucks in Millak Town, part of the Jeil Pungkyungchae building. From the parking lot, just follow the signage and it comes right into view! There are quite a few shops inside the building so it can be a little confusing, but if you enter from the Starbucks side or go up to the 2nd floor from inside the mall and follow the outer walkway, you'll spot it.

Inside Yangchonri Donkaseu Millak Branch and how to order

What we ordered at Yangchonri Donkaseu
- 2-person Set No. 6: Yangchonri pork cutlet + charcoal-grilled octopus rice bowl + grandma's udon, ₩31,800

Yangchonri Donkaseu started in 1986 in Miryang, South Gyeongsang Province, founded by Grandma Oh Sun-ja, and is now run by her granddaughter — a three-generation, 40-year-old tradition of old-school Western-style ('gyeongyangsik') pork cutlet~!

What's on the self-bar?
The self-bar had clear broth soup ready, which was great for me since I love miso soup haha. There was also an apron, small plates, pickled radish, kimchi, seasoned radish salad, bean sprouts, and yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi) at the self-bar, so I could help myself to more.

We got a free cola through a Naver review event, and they even gave us a 500ml one haha.

2-person Set No. 6: pouring the donkatsu sauce over the top
Finally, the three-dish set arrived! At Yangchonri Donkaseu Millak Branch, you can order the pork cutlet sauce separately, but since we like both dipping and pouring, we poured it on for the old-school gyeongyangsik style. If you'd rather dip, just mention it when ordering and they'll serve it separately~ For the octopus rice bowl, the octopus comes on the side, and you just add as much as you like on top of the rice, like a bowl dish.

Flame-grilled baby octopus rice bowl
The octopus in the rice bowl was really plump, and mixing it with the seasoned radish salad and bean sprouts that came alongside was delicious. Especially since it's charcoal-grilled, it was full of smoky flavor, and it neutralized things right when the pork cutlet started feeling a bit heavy.

The pork cutlet and its fruity sauce
The pork cutlet was thick and used good-quality meat — no off smell, and it was tender. The sauce especially was so good. Apple? Pineapple? Some kind of fruity scent, and the sauce was seriously amazing!

Grandma's udon
The udon is like... udon noodles served in a janchi guksu (feast noodle soup) style broth? It was mild and tasty haha.

Lastly, the restroom is a bit of a walk from the restaurant, so you have to go outside — but even though I'm picky about restrooms, it was clean and fine haha.
Is Yangchonri Donkaseu Millak Branch worth it?
With such a variety of menu items to choose from, and a sauce that felt like the essence of old-school gyeongyangsik pork cutlet — sweet with lots of fruity aroma — it was delicious. Having the pork cutlet and octopus together meant it never got repetitive and kept tasting good bite after bite. The udon was a nice palate cleanser, and the charcoal-grilled octopus bowl, full of smoky flavor, made the meal even better~! If you want old-school gyeongyangsik pork cutlet with smoky charcoal-grilled octopus, and you're looking for a lunch spot for pork cutlet in Uijeongbu or Millak, give Yangchonri Donkaseu Millak Branch a try~^^
