Konkuk Univ. bakery café for weekday-lunch egg flan: Stack Bakery
In short
Stack Bakery Konkuk University Station Main Branch is a pastry bakery café in a quiet alley in Gwangjin, Seoul, on the walk from Konkuk University Station toward Ttukseom Hangang Park. On a solo weekday lunch visit, the writer took a second-floor window seat with an egg flan (4,800 won), a blueberry ricotta croissant (8,500 won), a plain kouign-amann (4,500 won), an almond pain suisse (6,000 won) and an iced caffe latte. The croissant layers shattered so cleanly at the first bite that Stack Bakery is worth a return trip.

Anyone who loves croissants, raise your hand..!!!
Of every croissant I've eaten in my life, this one wins ;;;;;; I found a legendary bread spot in Konkuk with the most insane pastry layers I've ever seen.
I got some perks here, but I'd come back a million percent on my own dime... I was texting friends recommendations in real time while eating...

The weather was great and the building's exterior was so pretty, it felt like a mini trip ~~

Actually, Stack Bakery once went viral after a foreign influencer named it the best croissant spot in Seoul, so I already had it filed away in my memory — and getting the chance to come here made me so happy (spoiler: I fully agree).

What pastries are on the first-floor counter?
The moment you open the door to Stack Bakery's first floor, you meet the number one bakery item: the Stack Croissant!! It's priced at ₩4,500 each.

They're basically great at all pastry-family items, so there were plenty in the same vein — kouign-amann, pain suisse, pastry-style toast bread, and more.

There's also a crookie sandwich, a croissant-cookie hybrid, and flan with cream on top of pastry — in two flavors, chocolate and egg custard!

For those who think pastry bread needs a sausage bread, of course they had that too, plus salt bread in cheese and angbutter (red bean butter) versions. They looked so neat they almost seemed like models haha.

The special menu hidden on Stack Bakery's menu board
Actually, Stack Bakery's lineup doesn't end there — there's a special menu hidden on the board!! Sandwiches, plus a special croissant filled with ricotta cheese.. I couldn't resist and ordered the blueberry ricotta version haha.
If you order with coffee you get a set discount, so it'd be great for a simple breakfast or brunch too! (Especially since it opens at 8am.)
Second-floor seating: can you get a table at weekday lunch?
Stack Bakery has the 1st floor as the bakery sales space and the 2nd floor dedicated to eating in, so you can comfortably sit and enjoy your food!!! I came around weekday lunch time as a meal substitute and there were still plenty of seats, which was great haha.

There's a window seat by the wall with a wide open view, so while the sun's still up you can eat bread with a warm, romantic feeling...haha.

There's no way I'm giving up that seat. Time to eat lunch and dessert all at once... hehe.

The four pastries and the latte ordered at Stack Bakery
Here's what I bought—
Egg Flan Blueberry Ricotta Croissant Plain Kouign-Amann Almond Pain Suisse Iced Caffe Latte
I really savored each one, so let's get right into the tasting (heart pounding).

Egg flan, 4,800 won
The egg flan is priced at ₩4,800. I was already shocked the moment I put a knife to it. The crispness I could feel through the knife's edge... (I can't help but call it 'insane,' it truly is).
What is this seriously!!!! It's not even fried but has this incredibly crisp layer that's still alive, and inside there's a bouncy, soft egg custard — the textures completely contrast each other and it's... ah, insane. Cream-topped breads usually have some sogginess, but this one just has each part doing its own job perfectly.

You can't fully feel it from photos ㅠㅠ The filling is just sweet enough to be delicious, and the crisp bread layer is genuinely... insane. Because the shape is flat, it has a different texture from egg tart too??? Ah, this is a huge recommendation.

Blueberry ricotta croissant, 8,500 won
The blueberry ricotta croissant is priced at ₩8,500. Since there's an insane amount of ricotta cheese packed inside, the price is a bit steep, but once you eat it you'll admit it's worth it. I ordered this special item on purpose so I wouldn't get bored with just a plain croissant, and ah, absolutely no regrets.

The moment you cut it and take a bite, this one's croissant layers also shatter with a crisp crunch.. The ricotta cheese inside might look like just a little in photos, but it's really packed in all the way to the tail end!! I think the key here is that it's ricotta cheese, not whipped cream. It's not overly sweet and doesn't ruin the croissant flavor, while making it more filling — kind of good as a meal bread?

Since ricotta cheese has less tang than Greek yogurt, the blueberry handles the tartness haha. The powdered sugar on top adds sweetness. The blueberry jam has a fresh-fruit texture, and the ratio between the two is just right. If any one thing had been off, it probably would've felt too sweet or too heavy, but there's none of that — it's just right!!!

Plain kouign-amann, 4,500 won
The plain kouign-amann is priced at ₩4,500. Honestly I haven't tried many kouign-amanns, so I'll describe it based on Sungsimdang's small 'Meari' version haha (because that one's my favorite and it looks similar to this one). Bottom line — Stack Bakery clearly wins on pastry layer quality...!!
Sungsimdang's feels like it's soaked in syrup and clumped together, while this one has all its layers fully alive, with the crisp, shattering texture reaching all the way inside... Instead, the syrup here is mostly on the surface, so it's less about sweetness and more about enjoying the pastry itself? If you prefer clean bread over an overly sweet, greasy kouign-amann, I recommend this!!! Eating this really made me understand Stack's whole philosophy.

Almond pain suisse, 6,000 won
The almond pain suisse is priced at ₩6,000. This is actually my first time properly trying pain suisse ^_^ Since they're good at bread here, this is probably close to the baseline. The outside has a layer of croissant texture, and inside you can bite into a cookie-like chunk made of almond dough — this was the sweetest bread I ate at Stack that day!

It feels a bit similar to a crookie, but that outer layer definitely sets it apart, and the chocolate-chip-studded dough inside was sweet and delicious haha. But oddly, even though I clearly love sweet breads, I feel like the non-sweet breads here are much more delicious?

Iced caffe latte at Stack Bakery
The caffe latte is light, low in acidity, and mellow!! Honestly I got so focused on the bread over the coffee that by the time I finished eating, there was barely room left for the drink ㅠㅠ ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
What Stack Bakery is really about
Anyway, to sum up what I felt about Stack Bakery's identity after this tasting,
A flavor that cleanly focuses on the essentials, A balanced flavor that knows when to hold back and when to go strong!
That's the vibe I got. Since their base pastry is genuinely outstanding, it makes sense that anything added or applied on top tastes great too... While I sat there eating bread that day, I genuinely heard more than three tables of neighbors loudly praising how delicious it was.... I really hope no one stays unaware of this place.
Having a romantic little bread brunch on the second floor while opening my laptop for some light work — that was pure bliss... I'm definitely coming back... If you're doing a Konkuk bread pilgrimage and skip this, you'll regret it — Stack Bakery, the real-deal croissant spot, go check it out everyone!!!!!!!
