Osan hanjeongsik in Oesammi-dong: 36,000 won set for two at Bomseol

In short

Bomseol Main Branch is a hanjeongsik (Korean set-meal) restaurant in Oesammi-dong, between Dongtan and Osan in Gyeonggi, with a main building and a separate annex. The 36,000 won Bomseol table for two arrived with stir-fried pork, braised half-dried pollock, cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), eight basic side dishes, and a pot of rice with scorched rice crust per person, all seasoned gently enough that the side dishes alone emptied a bowl of rice. Parking at Bomseol Main Branch is wide open and free for 2 hours, so family gatherings and work dinners are easy here.

There's a great-value hanjeongsik (Korean set-meal) restaurant in Oesammi-dong, between Dongtan and Osan, so let me introduce it. I had a satisfying meal at Bomseol, where a gold medalist of the World Korean Food Competition and a certified Korean food master serve up neat, generous spreads — here's my honest review.

This Dongtan-Osan hanjeongsik spot, Bomseol, sets out sujeonggwa (cinnamon-persimmon punch), brewed coffee and roasted corn tea as dessert, and also sells boribulgul (dried yellow corvina) gift sets, gangjeong (rice puff snacks), and various side dishes.

Seating and floor layout at Bomseol Main Branch

Spacious and tidy interior

Spaciously arranged 4-to-6-person tables

Bomseol Main Branch has a main building with 3 floors and a separate annex. The first floor has 4–6-person tables set at comfortable distances for relaxed dining, and the floor-to-ceiling windows with high ceilings give it a nice sense of openness.

There's a dedicated elevator inside the building, so guests with mobility issues or older visitors can use it comfortably, and the annex can be rented for corporate banquets, group gatherings, or work dinners.

Meals mostly happen on the 1st floor, and the self-serve bar has bibimbap ingredients including barley rice ready, so you can help yourself to unlimited yeolmu (young radish greens) barley bibimbap. I meant to try it after the main meal, but I was already full from the mains, ugh.

The 2nd floor is a private banquet hall used for 60th birthdays, first birthdays (doljanchi), and rental events.

The 3rd floor has private rooms for more intimate gatherings.

Besides this, there's also a great-value weekday-only menu, along with à la carte items like boribulgul, grilled hairtail, soy-marinated crab, and stir-fried pork.

  • Bomseol table for 2, ₩36,000

What comes with the 36,000 won Bomseol table for two?

The Bomseol table costs ₩36,000 for two people and comes with basic side dishes like salad, japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), and fried squid, plus mains of stir-fried pork, braised mackerel, and cheonggukjang. The Bomseol table arrived generously loaded.

Basic side dishes including zucchini namul and godeulppaegi kimchi

The basic sides were zucchini namul, pickled gungchae, seasoned red pepper leaves, bracken namul, godeulppaegi kimchi, yeolmu kimchi, lotus root salad, and seasoned doraji (bellflower root). The seasoning was spot-on, the kind anyone would enjoy, and eating it I found myself thinking 'this place really knows how to cook.' The side dishes alone were enough to finish a whole bowl of rice!

Plate of japchae with noodles that haven't gone mushy

Japchae, a Korean food staple, had noodles that hadn't gone mushy, well-coated in a sweet-savory sauce that was nutty and delicious.

The fresh, crisp salad and the fried squid — crispy outside, moist inside — were both generously portioned and tasty; I even got a refill of the salad. ^^

Braised half-dried pollock (kodari-jorim)

The sauce on the braised mackerel in the Bomseol table was incredible. Pick the flesh off the mackerel, soak it well in the sauce, and eat it with rice — your mouth fills with flavor.

The mackerel was a good size too, with chewy flesh, so coated in sauce it was basically a rice thief.

I found a place that really knows how to do braised mackerel. ^^

Plate of stir-fried pork with a smoky char

Stir-fried pork (jeyuk-bokkeum)

The stir-fried pork had a subtle smoky char and savory depth, with zero gamey smell, and the seasoning was mild and not too sharp — good eaten plain or wrapped with rice, so I kept reaching for more.

Cheonggukjang, hot-pot rice and scorched rice crust

The cheonggukjang wasn't the pungent kind — it was clean-tasting and easy for anyone to enjoy, good for spooning up between other dishes throughout the meal.

Individual fluffy hot-pot rice served with cheonggukjang

Rice came out as fluffy individual hot-pot rice per person, and to finish, the clean, nutty scorched rice (nurungji) rounded off a satisfying meal.

Is the Bomseol table worth it? Final verdict

Eating at Bomseol Main Branch, I kept thinking about who I'd want to bring next time. I think this might be the first hanjeongsik restaurant where every single dish satisfied me.
