A Gwangalli brunch café open from 8 AM

I’d been staying home for a while because of some personal stuff, but I started feeling better and finally came out saying, “Let’s go on a date for once~” I wanted somewhere delicious with a nice atmosphere, and that’s how I found Famous Benny, a Blue Ribbon Survey brunch café in Millak-dong, Gwangalli.

Famous Benny is a Blue Ribbon-selected brunch café built around Australian-style brunch. There aren’t many brunch cafés in Gwangalli that open early, but Famous Benny opens from 8 AM. It is an easy, relaxed meal for a morning meet-up or even before work.

There are terrace seats by the entrance for a simple cup of coffee, too, so you can have a leisurely tea time in the natural light.

Famous Benny, a popular Gwangalli brunch café, has two floors. There are around five tables on the first floor. Pets are welcome, too, but the first and second floors are connected by stairs, so guests bringing dogs in strollers seemed to usually sit on the first floor.

The second floor has more tables than the first, with hip yet warm, atmospheric decor. It is one of those cafés with a genuinely good vibe for a relaxed brunch.

Toast piled high with avocado

🥑 Avocado Toast (avocado, cream cheese, cherry tomatoes, pickled onions, sourdough, macadamias) I’ve been really into avocado lately, so I ordered the avocado toast. True to its name, it was absolutely loaded with avocado. There were lots of crisp vegetables, too—exactly the fresh flavor I was after.

The Famous Benny on a croissant base

🥐 The Famous Benny – Bacon (croissant, poached egg, avocado, sabayon sauce, macadamias, onion chips) It is a signature menu item, so I expected a typical brunch plate, but I loved that the croissant was the base. There was a poached egg and lots of avocado here, too~ The bacon was nicely salty, and the onion chips added a fun crunch.

Today’s standout: thick, rich mushroom soup

🍄🟫 Mushroom Soup The mushroom soup was today’s standout. It was sweet and nutty. I usually love cream of mushroom soup, and this one was thicker, with the flavor of a wider variety of mushrooms. It normally comes with truffle oil, but I don’t like truffle, so I asked for it without. A baguette comes alongside it, and dipping it deep into the soup is sooo good. We had a lot of food, so I couldn’t finish the baguette, but the soup alone could probably fill you up.

The atmosphere was lovely, but for a café, the food was also fresh overall, with such a good balance of different ingredients. Even the fresh-pressed apple-carrot juice was perfect. Next time, I want to try the acai bowl and French toast, too.

Outlets for solo meals and laptop work, too

One thing I loved is that Famous Benny has outlets at every table. You could come alone, have a light meal, and get a little laptop work done. Great for solo dining, too.
