My husband had been feeling off for a few days too, and suddenly he said he wanted galbitang — and not just any galbitang, but a place with rich, hot broth. So the place that immediately came to mind was Gang Galbitang Seomyeon. Honestly, if you've ever searched for a good gukbap (soup with rice) restaurant in Seomyeon, Busan, you've probably heard this name at least once. Whenever I'm craving a hot bowl of soup in Seomyeon, my feet naturally carry me here.

Where is Gang Galbitang Seomyeon? 318m from Seomyeon Station Exit 11

Gang Galbitang Seomyeon's address is 33 Saessak-ro, 1st floor, Busanjin-gu, Busan, and it's about 318m from Exit 11 of Seomyeon Station. Coming out of Exit 11, walk about 300 meters toward Chorong or Busan Citizens Park, and you'll find it in the building next to Hotel TT, across from the former Busanjin-gu Office. Just remember it's on the main road toward Bujeon Market, not the inner street by Yeonggwang Bookstore, and you shouldn't get confused. Parking at Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is free — you can use Blue Parking at Bujeon-dong 399-8, Busanjin-gu. If you spend ₩20,000 or more, they cover 30 minutes of parking, but you have to get the discount voucher at the counter! I almost forgot, but the staff reminded me first.

Hours are weekdays 09:20 to 21:00, with a break time from 15:00 to 16:00, so keep that in mind. Last order is 20:20.

Standing in front of the shop, the big "Gang Galbitang" lettering on the wooden sign immediately catches your eye. The full glass front lets you see right inside, and the gray brick-tone walls paired with wooden tables gave it a cozier feel than I expected.

The seating ranges from solo seats to couple seats to group tables for up to 8 people, so it looks like a comfortable layout even for solo diners. A framed sign on the wall reading "pride" caught my attention — reading that they brew fresh broth every morning and handle every step themselves, even for delivery, made me trust the place even more.

The self-bar was well set up too. A water dispenser, coffee machine, and a corner for refilling side dishes were all gathered in one spot, making it easy to help yourself to whatever you needed.

Gang Galbitang Seomyeon menu, from spicy galbitang to galbi noodles

The signature dish is gang galbitang, made with fresh Korean beef bones boiled every morning into a long-simmered broth, packed with tender short ribs. If you want it spicier, there's also spicy galbitang cooked hot and tangy with bean sprouts and radish; if you want it with rice, there's galbi-gukbap; and on days you're craving noodles, there's galbi noodles. There's also aropng-sadae (beef shank) suyuk, which is great to share at a work dinner or with a group. The lineup seemed like it would pair well with day drinking or a late-night drink too.

Two bowls of gang galbitang with jungmyeon noodles: how is the broth?

We ordered two bowls of gang galbitang and added jungmyeon noodles to one of them. It came in a stone pot, and the moment we lifted the lid, steam billowed up and the savory smell of beef bone broth spread through the air.

I took the first spoonful of broth and it really was deep and rich. It wasn't harsh at all, just deeply savory, and my husband kept spooning up the broth over and over. It was exactly the kind of broth you need when you're coming down with a cold.

The side dishes that came with it — pickles, kimchi, cheongyang chili peppers, garlic, and doenjang (soybean paste) — were all clean and fresh.

My noodle-loving husband added jungmyeon and said it made the meal even more filling.

How much rib meat you get, and the lemon sauce dip

The amount of rib meat was honestly incredible. The portion was massive. There was nothing to be disappointed about in either quantity or quality.

The rib meat was so tender it pulled apart along the grain effortlessly.

Dipping it lightly in the lemon sauce, it went down fresh and clean without any greasiness. The lemon-honey sauce especially felt unfamiliar at first, but it turned out to pair perfectly with the meat.

They trim the ribs with scissors right at the table, and I put a piece of meat and a cube of kkakdugi (radish kimchi) on top of rice — that combination was seriously dangerous for how much rice it made me eat.

On the way out, I noticed delivery boxes by the entrance — turns out takeout and shipping are both available. Next time I'll have to try the meal kit.
