Today I visited Jokbo, a jokbal (braised pig's trotters) and bossam (boiled pork wraps) specialist in Wolpyeong-dong, Daejeon! My partner loves jokbal and bossam, so we've been to a lot of generous, tasty places, and this time we tried Jokbo in Wolpyeong-dong!
It's pretty close to Wolpyeong Station too, so it's a good spot for dinner after work. If you've been looking for a jokbal place in Wolpyeong-dong, hope this post helps •••🐷🤍

Walking to Jokbo from Wolpyeong Station: the storefront and dining room

Jokbo is in Wolpyeong-dong, Seo-gu, and being close to Wolpyeong Station made it easy to find. The whole place has a relaxed vibe, so it seemed like a good spot for dinner with friends or a partner, or even for a casual drink 🍺

Walking in, the interior was clean and comfortable overall. The tables were spaced out nicely so you didn't feel too close to the next table, making for a relaxed meal. Overall it had that neighborhood-favorite feel — good for a casual bite or a visit with friends and family ☺
Jokbo menu: royal jokbal, bossam and cold jokbal salad

Once we sat down, I checked out the menu first 👀 True to its name, Jokbo mainly serves jokbal, with a variety of options like royal jokbal, bossam, and cold jokbal. It wasn't just one type of jokbal — there was a nice range to choose from depending on your taste ❗️
There were menus for enjoying jokbal and bossam together, plus spicy options and side dishes, so it seemed like a good place to share a variety of items when visiting with a group.
Jokbo, a jokbal favorite in Wolpyeong-dong 🐽
The banchan that come first, plus spicy bean sprout soup
We looked over the menu and ordered what we felt like eating!

At a jokbal place, the main dish matters, but I personally think the side dishes that come with it matter quite a bit too haha. The banchan that go well with jokbal were neatly laid out, so I ended up tasting them one by one even before the main dish arrived 😋
The owner's pick was especially the spicy bean sprout soup! One spoonful of the broth, and it was calling for soju even before the meat arrived ••• (the owner doesn't drink much, so when soju gets tempting... that says it all)

There were so many kinds of alcohol that I debated whether to drink, but today I compromised on a soft drink instead 😏
How much meat is in the 45,000-won large royal jokbal?

The long-awaited main dish arrived •••❗️ Glossy, glistening jokbal came out looking so delicious 🤤 It looked good in photos, but seeing it in person, it was even more generous ••• ✨

You could enjoy both the chewy texture unique to jokbal and the tender meat together, so there was fun in picking whichever you preferred. It was delicious on its own, but pairing it with the side dishes as a wrap gave it a whole different flavor.
Garlic chives, raw garlic and chili sauce: how to wrap Jokbo's jokbal

We started light — jokbal + garlic chive salad + garlic ✨ The combination with the garlic chive salad is really delicious ❗️ Then the sharp garlic flavor kicks in afterward ••• heaven.

A piece of jokbal on a wrap leaf, add a bit of this and that, and bite! (the garlic chive salad never misses lol, it's so good) The chewy texture of the meat plus the crunchy vegetables and banchan kept me reaching for more haha.

Dipping the jokbal in the chogochujang (vinegar-chili sauce) added a sweet and tangy kick that really boosted the flavor ❗️ Jokbal can get a bit greasy after a while, but mixing up the combinations like this meant I never got tired of it 🤍 I guess when looking for good jokbal in Wolpyeong-dong, it's not just about the meat itself but also what you get to pair it with!
What you get in the 3,000-won doenjang stew and rice set

One of Korea's soul foods! We also ordered the doenjang + rice set as a side. Order this and you get a savory doenjang stew, geotjeori (fresh kimchi salad), and warm rice, all together!

Having some broth alongside meat just makes the meal feel more satisfying haha. Eating jokbal and taking a spoonful of doenjang stew here and there felt like a nice palate reset ☺️

And pairing the geotjeori that came with it over rice made the meal feel complete after the jokbal ✨ If you want to eat heartily with jokbal, I'd recommend ordering the doenjang + rice set as a side too 🤍
Refilling side dishes at Jokbo's self-serve corner

There's also a self-serve corner set up in one part of the restaurant! If any banchan ran low while eating, it was convenient to just go grab more ourselves. With jokbal, you often want more wrap veggies or side dishes, so being able to take exactly what you needed without hesitation was great ☺️
