Hanam Misa Chinese restaurant for tangsuyuk with a baby: O Hyeongje

In short

O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch is a Chinese restaurant on Misa-daero in Hanam, Gyeonggi that specialises in nurungjitang (crispy rice soup). On a Friday evening the writer came with her husband and their baby, almost two years old, and ordered seafood nurungjitang for 18,000 won and fresh tenderloin chapssal tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) for 26,000 won, both mild enough to spoon onto the baby's plate. With a large dining room and easy parking, O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang suits a family dinner with a baby or a meal out with parents.

First photo from visiting O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch

On a Friday evening, I went with my husband and our baby to O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang (오형제황제누룽지탕) Hanam Misa Main Branch. We happened to be passing through Hanam on our way to my parents' place, so we decided to have dinner there first. To cut to the chase: the food wasn't overly seasoned and the portions were generous, so it worked well as a spot for a family meal with parents or a dinner out with a baby.

Where is O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa, and when is it open?

It's located at 616-1 Misa-daero, 1F, Hanam-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. It's about 1km from Hanampungsan Station, so driving there like we did was pretty convenient.

The listed hours are daily 11:00–21:20, with last order at 20:45.

Exterior of the brightly lit standalone restaurant building

It's a standalone building with bright lighting, so it was easy to spot. It seemed to be a popular local spot — there were quite a few cars parked outside.

Parking spaces around the restaurant

Parking was available on all sides of the building, so that part was easy too.

Walking into the restaurant entrance

Dining room and salad bar: how baby-friendly is it?

Walking in, the place was roomier and cleaner than I expected.

Spacious, clean restaurant interior

The tables weren't cramped either, which made it comfortable for a family meal.

Table layout with comfortable spacing

There seems to be a wait during busy hours, but we were seated right away. Baby chairs were available too, though our baby has recently started refusing them now that she's almost two. We just sat together at a window table without one, and it wasn't too uncomfortable.

Seating by the window

On one side there was a salad bar where you could help yourself to side dishes and orange slices for dessert.

Nurungjitang prices and menu choices

Budget around ₩20,000 per person. Nurungjitang (crispy rice soup) is the main event, but you can also order dishes like sweet and sour pork or ganpunggi (spicy crispy chicken). If you like abalone, there's plenty of choice: Seafood Abalone Nurungjitang at ₩20,000, Mung Bean Abalone Nurungjitang and Maesaengi Abalone Nurungjitang at ₩22,000 each, and Jeongabok Nurungjitang at ₩28,000.

We ordered easily from the kiosk at our table.

After ordering, the side dishes came out first — each one neat and nicely presented.

Neatly arranged side dishes

Seafood nurungjitang, 18,000 won, shared with the baby

We ordered the most basic option, Seafood Nurungjitang, for ₩18,000.

The dish arrives with a fun visual and sound. Our baby was totally fascinated watching it.

A bowl of seafood nurungjitang

Even the basic seafood nurungjitang was really generous with ingredients. I thought the base menu would be simple, but it came with plenty of seafood and vegetables. I especially loved the texture of the rice crust soaking up the broth — crispy in parts, soft in others.

Eating it with the warm broth felt more like a hearty, restorative meal than a typical Chinese-food dinner. When you're eating out with a baby, whether you can share the food really matters. I liked that nothing here was overly spicy or strongly seasoned. Our baby picked out mushrooms and seafood from the soup one by one and ate them quite well. There was also soft, warm rice crust, which made it easy to scoop some out for her even though we'd ordered an adult dish.

Was the fresh tenderloin chapssal tangsuyuk worth 26,000 won?

We also ordered the Fresh Tenderloin Sweet and Sour Pork (Chapssal Tangsuyuk) for ₩26,000. The meat was especially tender.

A plate of fresh tenderloin sweet and sour pork

Eating the tangsuyuk, I got the sense this place really cares about ingredients. The pork tenderloin wasn't tough at all — it was quite soft, and its flavor really came through even under the crispy rice-flour coating. The sauce wasn't overly strong either, which paired well with the nurungjitang.

Cross-section of the crispy-coated sweet and sour pork

Two adults ordering one seafood nurungjitang and one sweet and sour pork, sharing with the baby too, left our family pretty full. If just nurungjitang feels like it's not enough, this combo is a good option.

Orange dessert taken from the salad bar

The orange from the salad bar went down really well as dessert too, so overall it was a pretty successful meal for our baby. :)

Kamut ganjeong sold in the store

Kamut ganjeong for 6,000 won on the way out

On our way out after dinner, we also picked up some Kamut Ganjeong (₩6,000) that they sell in the store. I grabbed it just as a snack, and it turned out to be a surprisingly good call. We brought it to my parents' place and shared it with the baby and my mom, and everyone enjoyed it. Overall, from the meal to dessert to the snack we brought home, it was a satisfying day.

Would I recommend it for a family dinner with a baby?

After visiting in person, O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch felt less like a flashy Chinese restaurant and more like a place to have a warm, filling meal made with good, generous ingredients.

The nurungjitang in particular, with its generous seafood and vegetables and mild seasoning, seems well suited for a meal with parents or a family outing with a baby. The dining room is also clean and spacious, which looked comfortable for a group. I'd recommend it not only to people looking for a good nurungjitang restaurant in Hanam like us, but also to anyone in the Hanam or Misa area looking for a family gathering spot, or craving a warm, hearty, restorative kind of meal. Next time, I'm thinking of upgrading from the basic seafood nurungjitang to one of the abalone menus.
