I went on a date with my boyfriend in Dunsan-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, and stopped by Bologna Daejeon Dunsan Branch, a famous Italian restaurant for Dunsan-dong date courses. We visited around the Sunday lunch peak at 1 pm and got CatchTable wait number 9, so we waited a bit before getting seated. But meeting the gnocchi of a lifetime made every minute of that wait worth it! Let's get into the honest review~

Small courtesies that make Bologna a Dunsan-dong favorite

The exterior of Bologna Daejeon Dunsan Branch, with its red brick and warm lighting, really catches the eye. In front of the entrance, standing signs of ragu bolognese pasta and truffle cream gnocchi looked so delicious that my appetite was already stirring before I even walked in.

I visited on Sunday at 1 pm for lunch and got CatchTable wait number 9 before being seated. Something that touched me while waiting: look at the quality of the waiting area — they had cold water and chamomile tea ready for waiting guests, plus a warm handwritten note. It put me in a good mood before I'd even eaten anything.

Walking into Bologna Daejeon Dunsan Branch, a wall full of vintage frames catches your eye like a gallery — it was fun to look at each one. Thanks to the comfortable brown leather sofa tables and the soft lighting, the space feels both cozy and stylish, making it perfect for a date course.

On one wall there's a wine selection, along with Harbeth speakers and a Vincent amplifier, so you can enjoy fine music while sipping wine. Pretty wine glasses hang neatly above the counter, adding to Bologna's signature sentimental mood. It's a great restaurant for couples or married couples to visit for birthdays, anniversaries, or wedding anniversaries~

What's on the Bologna Daejeon Dunsan Branch menu?

The menu was really diverse, so let's go through it together.

Bologna Daejeon Dunsan Branch wine and liquor menu

First up, wine and alcohol — essential for any special occasion. There's red wine and white wine easy to enjoy by the glass, and even non-alcoholic wine. With a chilling ice bucket on hand, they offer a variety of reds, whites, rosés, and sparkling wines from Spain, Chile, the US, France, Italy and more, ranging from the ₩20,000s to ₩90,000s to suit your taste.

If you want a cold beer, there are imported beers like Birra Moretti, Peroni Nastro Azzurro, Pilsner Urquell, and Heineken. And to refresh your palate, they also have grapefruit, blueberry, and green grape ade, sodas, and coffee.

For family or friend gatherings visiting as a group, there were solid, good-value set menus too. The must-try signature items are the bolognese ragu pasta and truffle cream gnocchi, along with the popular white ragu pasta, spinach ragu pasta, spicy seafood pasta, shrimp oil pasta, clam vongole pasta, cube steak cream risotto, truffle crab risotto, margherita pizza and gorgonzola pizza and diavola pizza made with crispy pastry dough, the main dish sous-vide skirt steak on a hot plate, and sides like the seasonal salad, chicken tenderloin salad, and salmon salad! There were so many varied menu items, it was hard to decide.

Kids' options and allergy guidance at Bologna

For guests visiting with children, the restaurant offers a free kids' risotto with the pepperoncino left out, plus free kids' vitamins, kids' tableware, and a kids' chair. There's even Pororo juice, making it perfect for family groups. It's a great spot to visit with kids, and a nice place to eat as a family.

I was already surprised by the barley tea out front and the kids' service, but there was another surprise waiting. There's an allergy information menu board, so you can eat safely and deliciously without having to ask staff separately. A restaurant that thinks even of people with allergies — this place would be great for a work dinner too. And they even gave free gelato as part of a review event, taking care of guests from entrance to exit... there's a reason it's such a popular restaurant in Dunsan-dong.

Refreshing lemon water was waiting for us at the table we were shown to. It perked up my appetite and felt somehow good for the body~

Ciabatta bread and balsamic sauce

A cheerful start with the appetizer menu. We dipped the crispy-outside, chewy-inside authentic Italian ciabatta bread into balsamic sauce, then soothed our stomachs with the rich, bright yellow corn soup, getting ready for the meal ahead with high expectations.

September's seasonal salad: mango and tomato, 6,000 won

The identity of the September seasonal salad turned out to be mango and tomato.

Fresh seasonal vegetables and cherry tomatoes topped with savory cheese zest sprinkled like snow made for the best appetizer, waking up my appetite in a refreshing way.

Zero Coke ordered instead of a pre-dinner drink

We had a long drive ahead that day, so instead of a pre-dinner drink, we settled for sipping Zero Coke,,

Signature truffle cream gnocchi

Truffle cream gnocchi, the best gnocchi I've had

The signature dish truffle cream gnocchi impresses from the very first look! The gnocchi, crispy outside and chewy inside with an addictive texture, pairs fantastically with the rich, smooth cream sauce.

Along with the subtle, luxurious spread of truffle aroma, the savory crunch of nuts here and there and the spicy kick of pepperoncino cut through the richness perfectly, so you can enjoy it to the last bite without getting tired of it. Gnocchi is a dish where quality really varies a lot from restaurant to restaurant, and since I genuinely love it, ordering it always makes me a little nervous, honestly? That day I went back and forth a hundred, a thousand times about whether to order it, but I'd have regretted it forever if I hadn't — I met the gnocchi of my life. I wouldn't mind driving all the way to Daejeon just for this restaurant's gnocchi ;

Vongole pasta packed with clams

Clam vongole pasta at Bologna, 16,000 won

An umami explosion — the clam vongole pasta. Loaded generously with fresh clams, the deep, rich umami of the sea soaks right into the noodles, and this vongole pasta was also exactly my taste.

The al dente noodles, cooked to a perfect chewy texture, blend cleanly with the oil sauce, and the more you scoop it up with clam meat on a spoon, the more the umami builds — a truly charming dish.

Honestly, Bologna Dunsan Branch is a taste on a whole other level that just makes you gasp... I wondered if I'd manage to finish the set, but I scraped the plate completely clean. It's sad that I'm not a Daejeon resident and this gnocchi place is so far away.

Free yogurt gelato for a review and herb salt for visitors

The touching moments continued right to the end — the yogurt gelato we got for participating in the review event, and the cute herb salt given as a visit gift..! The yogurt gelato had that thick, chewy gelato-specific texture, and it was full of refreshing, sweet-tart yogurt flavor — nothing better for a palate-cleansing dessert after the meal.

After finishing the gelato properly and heading out to pay, a staff member hurried over with a surprise visit gift — herb salt in a sentimental little glass bottle, both pretty to look at and useful for cooking. I gave it to my mom when I got home, and she was so pleased~

Why Bologna in Dunsan-dong is now my Daejeon regular

Full of delicious food and thoughtful care, Bologna was easily the best restaurant I visited on this Daejeon trip. I go to Daejeon fairly often but never had a regular spot I'd settled on. Bologna is now officially my first claimed regular haunt in Daejeon. I really recommend everyone visit and feel this satisfaction for yourselves.. Highly recommend Bologna in Dunsan-dong!
