Daejeon private-room hanwoo dinner with beef sashimi: Wonangmyeongga

When it comes to hanwoo (Korean beef) in Daejeon, Wonangmyeongga is probably the most famous name, right? I've been there a few times for work dinners, but this time it was even better than before, haha. Here's my review of Wonangmyeongga Dunsan City Hall Branch, the hanwoo spot in Dunsan-dong that I ate so well at 😻

Where is Wonangmyeongga? 7 minutes on foot from City Hall Station in Dunsan-dong

Wonangmyeongga Dunsan City Hall Branch is located near the Daejeon City Hall and city council, close to Palais de l'Opera. It's a 7-minute walk from City Hall Station, so it's great on foot, and there's a spacious lot, so it's really convenient if you're driving too 😻

Can Wonangmyeongga host a group dinner? The back room and 2nd-floor room

Wonangmyeongga Dunsan City Hall Branch has a room inside the restaurant as well as rooms on the 2nd floor, making it really good for gatherings or work dinners. Highly recommend it for group dinners in Dunsan-dong!! The high ceilings and clean space give it an even more upscale feel, haha. Even the regular tables are divided by partitions, so it was comfortable to eat there!

Picking your own hanwoo and ordering the mixed special cuts platter

At this Dunsan City Hall area meat restaurant, Wonangmyeongga, it works like a butcher shop — you pick your meat from the front counter and bring it back yourself. (Payment is after eating! Just stop by the counter once you've chosen your meat.) The beef looked so good..❤️🔥 The two of us went together and chose one mixed special cuts platter.

Besides beef, you can check out the rest of the menu on the board! There was a good variety of grilled dishes and meal options too.

The self-serve bar, the banchan spread and the yuksasimi (raw beef sashimi)

There's also a self-serve bar, so you can grab mushrooms, vegetables, pineapple, and cherry tomatoes. Pineapple too?! Amazing!! lol

I'd been to Wonangmyeongga as a kid but didn't remember much, so I was so surprised by how generous and high-quality the banchan (side dishes) were. Each one was genuinely delicious. My favorites were the lettuce salad, seasoned crab, Japanese-style steamed egg, and japchae (glass noodle stir-fry)!! 😭😭❤️❤️❤️

My friend was especially obsessed with the beef tartare, saying it was insane. (I didn't try it, haha.) She kept asking me why I wasn't eating it, she loved it so much lol. The meat is already high-quality and reasonably priced like a butcher shop, but with banchan like this coming out too, honestly I think this might be the best hanwoo restaurant in Daejeon!! (For real!!)

How the charcoal grill and the special cuts tasted

Absolutely gorgeous visual••• 🤍 The portion was just right for two, and the price was good too, right? Wonangmyeongga, the Dunsan-dong hanwoo spot, reportedly only serves 1+ and 1++ grade hanwoo cows aged 30–40 months 😻😻

They bring out the charcoal, and wow, the heat is amazing. Meat lives and dies by the fire, right 🔥 With such high heat, everything cooked quickly, and it was just... so delicious.

Since the heat was so strong, we grilled a little at a time, haha. The meat really felt fresh and top quality. No gamey smell at all, just savory and.. just.. amazing 😻

Since it was a mixed special cuts platter, there were various cuts, and each one had its own character and was delicious. I'm not sure exactly which cuts they were, haha, but each had a different charm so it was fun to eat 🥹😻 The banchan paired so well with the meat that even though I can't eat a lot of beef, I didn't feel sick of it and enjoyed it deliciously all the way through, haha.

Is Wonangmyeongga worth it for two people or for a group dinner?

It really felt like Wonangmyeongga has earned its place as a longtime hanwoo favorite in Daejeon 👍🏻 This time I came with a friend, but I think it would also be great for a special day with a boyfriend, family gatherings, or work dinners. If you find yourself wanting to come back with someone special, that's how you know it's a real favorite, right?? haha. After eating, we even had a perfect route to go shopping at Galleria — a perfect day 😻
