Jamsilsaenae family-gathering sashimi restaurant course: Namhae Fish
In short
Namhae Fish Jamsilsaenae Branch is an aged-sashimi restaurant on the second floor of a building a short walk from Exit 4 of Jamsilsaenae Station in Songpa, Seoul. Three of us — me, my mom and my aunt — ordered the sashimi omakase set at 39,000 won per person, which ran as a course from abalone porridge and mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) through more than ten kinds of aged sashimi including hairtail, yellowtail and red seabream, plus futomaki, clam vongole pasta, yurinji (fried chicken in soy-vinegar sauce), grilled sea bream head and beef shabu-shabu to finish. With private rooms and window seats along the glass wall, Namhae Fish Jamsilsaenae Branch is an easy recommendation for family meals and group dinners.

My aunt and mom and I were looking for a family gathering spot in Jamsil, and this Jamsilsaenae sashimi restaurant, Namhae Fish, looked really good, so I went to check it out~ It's spacious and clean, and the vibe is honestly upscale. We got the sashimi omakase set for 3 people and it was 100% satisfying!

I want to come back to Namhae Fish for every family gathering from now on, so let me review it!!

A Jamsilsaenae restaurant built for group meals

It stood out right away near the main street of Jamsilsaenae. Going up to the 2nd floor, the interior feels like a whole different world from the building's exterior~

The tables are spaced generously and there's a separate room too. It was nice for chatting as a family while eating.

It felt more like an upscale restaurant than a typical Japanese place. You could feel the warm sunlight and enjoy the view outside through the windows.
The kelp-aged sashimi set: abalone porridge and mulhoe first
The sashimi omakase at Namhae Fish Jamsilsaenae Branch starts with a pre-meal porridge and mulhoe (cold raw fish soup). First, the pre-meal porridge and mulhoe come out.

The abalone porridge came out first and warmed up my stomach, and the tangy mulhoe came as an appetizer too. It was packed with fish and tangy-sweet, really got my appetite going.
More than ten kinds of aged sashimi on one platter
The star of the show, the assorted aged sashimi platter, comes with a really wide variety. As the owner explained each one, hairtail sashimi that's hard to even see elsewhere came out, along with mackerel, yellowtail, flounder, salmon, red seabream, Spanish mackerel, and herring, all sliced thick by type.

The umami of the aged sashimi is genuinely... wow.... this chef seriously seems amazing. How can it be this good?
Just look at this skin, the best part of the red seabream, and this thickly sliced piece — game over, right? Being able to enjoy this many varieties of sashimi for ₩39,000 per person, with this freshness and flavor, made me so happy.
Soy-marinated shrimp sushi, futomaki, clam pasta and yurinji

Not-too-salty, deep-flavored shrimp sushi, plus futomaki (thick sushi roll) generously packed with rolled egg, salmon, and fried shrimp...!

On top of that came a vongole pasta loaded with clams, and yurinji (crispy fried chicken with sauce). I especially kept reaching for chopsticks for the combo of that crispy chicken and the yurinji sauce.

Grilled sea bream head came out too, and even with a full stomach, the moist fish flesh under that crispy-grilled skin had me eating more.

Looking at this again, it's so gorgeous and big, ugh. I want to eat it again.
Not done yet: finishing with beef shabu-shabu
The course at Namhae Fish Jamsilsaenae Branch even includes beef shabu shabu. Being able to fill up on sashimi and still finish with a hot broth at the end was especially great for a family gathering.

That classic thing Koreans do — after eating everything delicious, you still end up craving soup... haha. As if they knew, the course includes beef shabu shabu too. Cold sashimi + hot shabu shabu,,,
It's love, haha.

They gave us plenty of beef and vegetables too, lots to bite into and a rich broth that made it even better to eat.

Is Namhae Fish Jamsilsaenae Branch worth it for a family meal?

Going in person, there's even a full-window seating area, so you can really soak in the mood. At night, it'd also be perfect as a date spot or a Jamsilsaenae bar-restaurant~
Thanks to the privacy at Namhae Fish Jamsilsaenae Branch, we had a really solid family gathering after a long time. I'd recommend a visit..!!
