Sindorim jokbal restaurant, no wait at 8pm on a weekend: The Jokbal

In short

The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch is a jokbal (braised pig's trotter) restaurant in Guro, Seoul, between Sindorim and Guro stations and across from Ramada The Link. At 8pm on a weekend the hall was full but the writer was seated with no wait, ordered the half-and-half jokbal with a 3,000-won swap to front leg, and received free cold jokbal and radish-green doenjang soup. The skin was chewy and the meat tender with no gamey smell, making The Jokbal an easy choice for a Sindorim group dinner.

Half-and-half jokbal spread at The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch

Today I'm writing about a genuine favorite that jokbal lovers absolutely cannot skip — The Jokbal in Sindorim. It's so well-known by word of mouth that it's worth traveling out of your way for, and I got lucky enough to walk in with no wait. Here's the visit.

Where is The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch? Between Sindorim and Guro stations

The Jokbal sits roughly between Sindorim Station and Guro Station, right across from Ramada The Link. There don't seem to be that many offices nearby, yet somehow it's a huge after-work dinner spot for Sindorim office workers.

This is a place I love enough to make a special trip for. There's a jokbal lover living in my house, haha. I'd been waiting for the right timing to bring them here, and finally made time for this visit. I remembered eating really well here last time. It's near Sindorim Station so it's easy to reach by public transit, and even though it's a bit of a walk from the station, there's always a wait for a reason.

Was there a wait at The Jokbal at 8pm on a weekend?

The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch is packed every single time I go. I visited around 8pm on a weekend, and the hall was already full and buzzing, with nonstop takeout orders and Baemin (Korean delivery app) deliveries going out. My timing was lucky that day — I got seated right away with no wait. The people right behind me had to wait, though, sorry to them, haha.

The Jokbal menu and ordering tips: cold jokbal comes free

The Jokbal's menu covers the jokbal basics — front leg and hind leg, spicy jokbal, cold jokbal, bossam (boiled pork wrap), buckwheat noodles, a pan-fried dish, steamed egg, and more. For those who want to sample a bit of everything, there's also a 3-item combo where you pick 3 out of 5 menu items.

Quick ordering tip: cold jokbal comes free as a side here! So if you're torn between spicy jokbal and cold jokbal, I'd recommend going with the spicy one since you'll get the cold version anyway. We went with half-and-half jokbal and paid the extra ₩3,000 to upgrade to front leg. Definitely upgrade to front leg — worth every won of that ₩3,000.

The free radish-green doenjang soup and cold jokbal

Once the order was in, out came a hearty freebie to fill our stomachs first. Radish-green doenjang soup, simmered and served bubbling in a stone pot, packed with cheongyang chili for a spicy, deep flavor — the kind that pairs perfectly with a bottle of soju. It used to be bean sprout soup last time I came, so I guess they switched it up.

And then the cold jokbal I mentioned earlier. Tangy mustard sauce, seafood, and vegetables piled on top — sweet and tangy cold jokbal. The portion wasn't skimpy either.

How does the half-and-half jokbal with front leg taste?

Finally, the main event — half-and-half jokbal (front leg) arrived. Just the visual alone, glistening with sheen, was enough to make me lose it a little. One bite in — the skin was chewy and the meat melted in my mouth, tender all the way through. No gamey smell at all, genuinely soft.

Plus side dishes to pair with it — seasoned chives, radish kimchi, and a combo of cabbage and perilla leaves for wraps. The seasoning on the sides was just right too.

How spicy is the spicy jokbal at The Jokbal?

One request: please order front leg. Truly worth every bit of that ₩3,000. The ratio of skin, fat, and lean meat was insane, and it was tender with no dryness at all — genuinely delicious. As for the spicy jokbal's heat, it's milder than buldak (fire chicken), more like Yeolramyeon level. There's a slight charcoal-grilled aroma along with a savory spiciness and a touch of sweetness. If it gets a bit too spicy, eat it with the seasoned chives.

Put a chewy piece of jokbal on lettuce or perilla leaf, add seasoned chives, garlic, and ssamjang (thick seasoned paste) — pure bliss. I think I ate about ten cloves of garlic that day, felt like I turned into a bear.

How much jokbal should two people order?

We were so full after finishing everything that we ended up walking home. If it's just the two of you, skip the buckwheat noodles and order a medium jokbal — the portion is exactly right. If you order the buckwheat noodles too, you'll definitely have leftovers.

If you're looking for a proper jokbal spot near Sindorim, I highly recommend The Jokbal for your next Sindorim group dinner. This was probably the first time I've ever finished jokbal down to the very last piece. Ate really, really well.
