Mirim Yangjang Busan Main Branch is a Chinese bar in Jeonpo-dong, Busan where you can properly enjoy Peking duck. Jeonpo has so many restaurants with great atmosphere, but this is the place that comes to mind when you want something a bit more special. It's somewhere you can properly enjoy Peking duck, which isn't easy to find normally, so I had high expectations before even visiting. What is the interior of Mirim Yangjang like?

The first thing that caught my eye walking into Mirim Yangjang was definitely the unique interior. It's decorated mostly in dark colors, so it felt distinctly different from your typical bright, clean Chinese restaurant. As you can see in the photos, the walls and floor are made of dark-toned tile, and black tables and chairs are arranged throughout, giving it a heavy yet hip feeling overall.

On top of that, vintage props and lighting scattered throughout made it feel like stepping into a small restaurant in an old Hong Kong alley.

The lighting is generally soft and dim overall, so I imagine the mood shifts a bit between day and evening. Thanks to this atmosphere, I think it's great for eating with friends, and also works well as a Jeonpo date spot if you want to spend time in a distinctive space.

1. Peking duck, a dish that is hard to find 🦆

I think Peking duck is definitely Mirim Yangjang's biggest highlight.

Peking duck isn't something you can easily eat every day, so it was the dish I was most looking forward to on this visit. While waiting after ordering, the owner took a duck that had been hanging and put it into what looked like a charcoal oven to prepare it. Being able to watch the food being prepared right in front of you was way more fun than just having the dish arrive at the table. It was especially fun to take photos or just watch, so my anticipation kept building even before the food arrived.

The Peking duck that actually came out had both a crispy part and a tender meat part, and honestly, I really enjoyed both. If you've wanted to try Peking duck, which isn't easy to come across normally, this is a place worth visiting at least once.

2. From QR ordering to the side dishes

It was also convenient that Mirim Yangjang lets you order easily via QR code. You can check the menu at your table and order what you want right away, so it wasn't difficult to use even on a first visit.

Various side dishes came out along with the food too, so there was fun in trying a little of each. When eating Chinese food, I find it tastes better to switch up flavors with different side dishes rather than eating just one thing the whole time, and Mirim Yangjang did well on this front.

It's also worth noting that takeout and delivery are available, and pets are welcome, so you can use the place in different ways depending on the situation. Since the atmosphere itself is so distinctive, I thought it would suit not just hanging out with friends but also a meal on a special occasion.

This time I ordered Peking duck and fried rice.

First, the Peking duck I was most looking forward to! As soon as I ordered, the owner took the hanging duck out and put it into what looked like a charcoal oven to prepare it, which was really fascinating to watch. Being able to see the whole process of the food being made meant the waiting time didn't feel boring at all.

The Peking duck came with both a crispy part and a meat part, and personally I was satisfied with both. The crispy texture was definitely there, and the meat part was soft and easy to eat, so the two different textures went really well together. 🦆

And the fried rice I ordered alongside had meat mixed in. It was tasty on its own, but eating it together with the Peking duck made for a really great combination. The flavor of the Peking duck blended naturally with the fried rice, and it kept me reaching for more — personally, if the portion had been a bit bigger, I feel like I could have eaten two bowls. Pairing a strong-flavored main dish like Peking duck with fried rice made for a satisfying, filling meal.

The biggest appeal of Mirim Yangjang Busan Main Branch was being able to enjoy Peking duck, which isn't easy to come across normally, in such a special atmosphere. From the exotic interior reminiscent of Hong Kong, to the vintage mood throughout the space, to the fun of watching the Peking duck being cooked right after ordering, it was a different experience from a place where you just eat and leave.

The Peking duck I had this time was especially satisfying with both its crispy part and tender meat part, and the pairing with the meat fried rice was really good too. So I think this place would suit people who want to try something a bit different from the usual Chinese food, and if you want atmosphere on top of that, it's worth keeping in mind when looking for restaurants in Jeonpo or Seomyeon.
