With the weather swinging so much between seasons these days, you get that slight cold feeling coming on, or just crave a deep, hot broth to warm your stomach up. There's one restaurant that never fails to fill me up properly whenever that hits — Gang Galbitang, a solo-diner-friendly galbitang (beef short rib soup) restaurant in Seomyeon, Busan, where you can stop by alone without any awkwardness and eat a genuinely satisfying meal. I went with my kid and we polished off a deep, rich bowl of galbitang, a punchy spicy galbitang, and a generous helping of jungmyeon noodles — here's the review!
Where is Gang Galbitang Seomyeon, and what are the hours and parking?
Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is on the 1st floor of 33 Saessak-ro, Busanjin-gu, Busan. Head out Exit 11 of Seomyeon Station toward Choeup and Busan Citizens Park, walk about 300m, and it's on the 1st floor of the building right next to TT Hotel, across from the old Jin-gu Office. It's on the main road toward Bujeon Market, so it was really easy to find.

If you're driving, you can use 'Blue Parking' at 399-8 Bujeon-dong, Busanjin-gu. Spend over ₩20,000 on food and you get 30 minutes of parking support, so we were able to park comfortably and eat without worrying. Just remember to grab the discount coupon at the counter!

Hours on weekdays run from 09:20 in the morning to 21:00 at night, so there's plenty of room for a late breakfast/lunch or a solo dinner. There's a break time from 15:00 to 16:00, so worth keeping in mind before you visit.

Solo seats, tables for 8, a baby chair and the self-serve bar
Walking into the restaurant, the calm gray brick walls paired with neat wooden tables gave the whole place a cozy, clean feeling.

What stood out most was just how efficient the seating layout was! From solo seats to couple seats to group tables seating up to 8, there was a real variety, and looking around, I could see plenty of people eating comfortably alone — living up to its reputation as a solo-diner-friendly spot in Seomyeon, Busan. There's also one baby chair set up on one side of the restaurant, so families with young kids can visit without worry.

There's also a neatly kept self-serve bar with a corner to refill any side dishes you're running low on, plus a dessert coffee machine for after the meal — you could really feel the owner's thoughtfulness.

The Gang Galbitang Seomyeon menu and the two bowls we ordered

Looking over the menu, there were a range of neat soup dishes built on a Korean beef bone broth boiled fresh every morning.
- Signature dishes: basic Gang Galbitang, spicy Galbitang with bean sprouts and radish, galbi gukbap (rice in short rib soup), galbi guksu (short rib noodle soup)
- Sides and add-ons: aronj sataeng suyuk (boiled beef shank), added Jeju jungmyeon noodles, etc.

We ordered one bowl of the basic Gang Galbitang and one bowl of the spicy Galbitang, and added a Jeju jungmyeon noodle sari to the basic galbitang.
How do the spicy galbitang and the basic Gang Galbitang taste?

Not long after ordering, the steaming ttukbaegi (stone pots) were set down, and a rich, deep beef bone aroma spread across the whole table.

The spicy galbitang I had was loaded with crunchy bean sprouts and radish, giving it a feel almost like a deeply simmered, carefully made beef radish soup!

The moment I took the first spoonful, a deep, savory umami came through right behind the spiciness, and I couldn't help letting out a little gasp. It wasn't overly intense, but had that clearing, refreshing quality that would be perfect for a hangover or when you're not feeling your best.

The basic Gang Galbitang, true to its daily-simmered Korean beef bone broth, was clean yet deeply rich. The amount of rib meat in the pot was genuinely impressive, and the meat was so tender it pulled apart along the grain the moment I cut it with scissors.
Dipping the soft rib meat into the lemon-citron sauce cut through any greasiness completely and brought out a bright, refreshing flavor. On top of the regular glass noodles, the Jeju jungmyeon noodles we added were plump and chewy, soaking up plenty of broth to make the meal even more filling.

When I mixed the galbitang broth and tender rib meat into a bowl of rice for my kid, they ate the whole bowl happily.

Is Gang Galbitang Seomyeon worth it for solo diners and kids?

The convenience of 30 minutes of parking support at Blue Parking, the ease of having roomy solo seats where solo diners never feel awkward plus a baby chair, self-serve bar and dessert coffee, and the balance between the deep, rich Korean beef bone broth of the Gang Galbitang and the punchy spicy galbitang with bean sprouts — it all came together well!

Thanks to the plump added Jeju jungmyeon noodles, my kid and I both left with full, satisfied stomachs — it was a perfect meal. If you want to enjoy a bowl of guksu-style soup near Seomyeon comfortably, without any awkwardness, I'd highly recommend stopping by Gang Galbitang, a solo-diner-friendly restaurant in Seomyeon, Busan.
