Jeonju chicken shop for mild soy chicken: Mannyeon Dakgangjeong

In short

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store is a dakgangjeong (sweet crispy Korean fried chicken) restaurant in Jeonju, Jeonbuk. We ordered a half-and-half box of mild and soy sauce flavors while walking around Jeonju Hanok Village, and the generous portion was not overly sweet. A satisfying snack for kids and adults to share.

Signature dakgangjeong at Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store

While my friends and I were looking around Jeonju Hanok Village, it suddenly became dinner time, you know? But everyone passing by seemed to have a Mannyeon Dakgangjeong box in their hands haha. At first, we just walked past, but we kept seeing them and got curious. We wondered if it was one of the popular things to eat in Jeonju Hanok Village, and even just seeing people carry the boxes made it look delicious 😃 So my friends and I said, “Let’s try it too!” and headed straight there.

Storefront that suits the Hanok Village atmosphere

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store was just a short walk uphill from Jeondong Cathedral. As you would expect from a shop in Hanok Village, its exterior suited the atmosphere around it really well haha. We spotted it while walking around and sightseeing, and I thought the location was pretty convenient.

It was nice that we did not have to change our route just to get food in Jeonju Hanok Village 😃 If you are looking for a good Mannyeon Dakgangjeong stop, it could be nice to drop by after seeing Jeondong Cathedral.

Half-and-half boxes and an English menu

📋 A menu that looked like good value

Looking at the menu, they had a half-and-half option, which seemed great when it feels like a shame to choose only one flavor haha. One line on the menu also caught my eye: it said they use fresh fruit sauces. It also said the chicken tastes even better after it cools down, so I thought it would be especially suited to takeout.

English menu for international visitors

They also had a separate English menu for international visitors. Since Jeonju Hanok Village gets plenty of overseas tourists, I thought that was a really thoughtful touch 😃 The menu names and prices were all listed in English, so it looked easy for first-time international visitors to order.

Sides and jjonddeugi while we waited

🍟 A side selection that made the wait less boring

Standing sign for dakgangjeong side dishes

While waiting for our dakgangjeong, I looked around the shop and saw a standing sign for the side dishes. There was everything from sotteok sotteok (rice cake and sausage skewers) to sweet potato cheese sticks, fried jjonddeugi (chewy snack strips), and cheese balls haha. The prices were listed too, so it looked easy to choose something to have alongside the chicken.

Side dish photos and price information

More than anything, the food photos looked so tempting that they made me even more excited for the Mannyeon Dakgangjeong 😆 There are so many foods to choose from in Jeonju Hanok Village that deciding can be hard, but having sides like these made it seem good for sharing with a group too.

🍺 A pairing of Gyodong jjonddeugi and slushy beer

As I looked around, I realized this place did not only have Mannyeon Dakgangjeong—they also ran Gyodong Jjonddeugi. They had a set pairing jjonddeugi with beer, and it looked so delicious together haha. They especially had slushy beer, which I thought would be incredibly refreshing on a hot day like these.

It had that icy, frozen feel, so I thought it would go well with dakgangjeong or jjonddeugi 😃 We had driven there, so we could not drink, which was a little disappointingㅠㅠ Next time, if I come without a car, I would love to try the jjonddeugi and slushy beer pairing.

Mild and soy sauce flavors in a half-and-half box

🍗 The generous amount and appearance when we opened the box

Generous half-and-half dakgangjeong portion

When we opened our takeout box, it felt so generous even though we had ordered half-and-half. I thought this would be a good amount for several people to share.

Sweet mild-flavor dakgangjeong

The mild flavor was sweet but not overly so, and I kept reaching for it. Sesame seeds were sprinkled over the top, so it looked appetizing too 😃 There was no unpleasant chicken smell at all; it tasted clean, and the coating went well with the sauce, making it easy to eat.

Savory soy sauce dakgangjeong

The soy sauce flavor was savory with a subtle sweetness, and it went even better when we alternated it with the mild flavor haha. What I especially liked was that it was not excessively sweet like some other dakgangjeong. When the sweetness is too strong, you can get tired of it after just a few pieces, but this one did not feel that way as much. I could see why people come looking for Mannyeon Dakgangjeong haha.

Receipt review event

Receipt review event information

Near the checkout, they were also running a Naver receipt review event. If you wrote a receipt review, you could receive either a chicken toy or sotteok sotteok haha. Since you are already visiting and eating there, I thought it could be fun to take advantage of an event like this too. If you came with a child, they would probably like the chicken toy especially!

Overall thoughts: a snack for kids and adults

⭐ Overall visit review

Dakgangjeong takeout from Hanok Village

We stopped by while looking around Hanok Village with friends, and we enjoyed it so much haha. The child who was with us ate it really well too, and seeing that made me think it would be good for everyone from kids to adults. If you are looking among Jeonju Hanok Village foods for something a group can share, this seems like a great fit. The portion was generous and the value was good, so Mannyeon Dakgangjeong was a memorable spot 😃
