Chicken hot pot with a tangy chicken salad side in Migeum: Sugyeokok
In short
Sugyeokok Bundang Migeum is a dak hanmari (whole chicken hot pot) restaurant on Migeumil-ro in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. The order here was the regular dak hanmari with a chicken salad side and a noodle set, mixing the dipping sauce by hand and eating in order from rice cakes to chicken breast, chicken leg and a final round of kalguksu noodles. The tangy chicken salad against the mild hot pot, plus a clean, deep broth, is what makes Sugyeokok Bundang Migeum worth the trip.

Did you know you can get great dak hanmari (whole chicken hot pot) even out in Bundang~? I visited Sugyeokok Bundang Migeum, located in Migeum, haha ^0^
Sugyeokok Bundang Migeum hours, break time and parking
Sugyeokok Bundang Migeum is open 11:30–22:00 with a break time of 14:00–17:30, and it's open every day with no closed days. There's a parking lot right in front, so it was easy to get to by car.
Inside Sugyeokok: kids' chairs make family meals easy

The dining room is spacious and clean, and they've got kids' chairs ready, so it felt like a great spot for a family meal! I actually saw quite a few families there too.
Sugyeokok menu: which dak hanmari and which side dish?
Sugyeokok has really well-designed sets. First, there are three types of dak hanmari — regular, neungi (mushroom), and spicy — and you can order a set that includes one side dish plus a noodle set.

For the side dish, you can choose between potato pancake or chicken salad!

There's also a pre-meal porridge set, made up of chicken neck-meat scorched rice porridge and a noodle set!

I went with the regular dak hanmari + chicken salad + noodle set! Each table had instructions on how to make the dak hanmari dipping sauce. The wifi info was written there too, plus tips on how to best enjoy dak hanmari, so I read through everything while waiting — and before I knew it, the food arrived fast!
Mixing your own dipping sauce — and hair ties on the table

First they brought out the sauce ingredients, vegetables, and mul kimchi (water kimchi)! Soy sauce, mustard, pepper and so on were all set out on the table so you can make the sauce to your own taste. They even had hair ties ready — such a nice touch!

Making the sauce following the suggested ratio

Made the sauce to the suggested ratio and added the vegetables too — all set~!
The chicken salad side: tangy against the mild chicken hot pot

While I was busy with that, the food came out fast. First up, chicken salad. It's served cold — chicken and vegetables tossed in a tangy, spicy sauce. Since dak hanmari is relatively mild on its own, eating them together was such a great combo!

It really woke up my appetite, the chicken was tender and the sauce soaked in nicely — so good! And that slightly bitter green vegetable in there was the real kicker!
How to eat dak hanmari: rice cakes, then chicken breast and leg
They told us that once the main dak hanmari starts boiling, you should start with the rice cakes after about 6 minutes. Apparently the rice cakes have a lot of starch, so it's best to eat them first. I tried the rice cakes first — seriously so chewy! >_<
After that I moved on to the chicken breast.

Dipping it in Sugyeokok's special sauce is pure magic — makes the chicken breast so much tastier.

Piling on broth, rice cake and scallion together is delicious too, and since they give you such a generous portion of chicken salad vegetables, eating the hot pot chicken together with those vegetables was such a great combo as well. I highly recommend ordering the chicken salad as your side!!

That tangy sauce goes so well with the rice cake too..♥️
You know how the charm of dak hanmari is that the broth gets richer and more delicious the longer it boils, right.. I added a bit of mul kimchi and a little dadegi (chili paste) too, and the broth got even more refreshing and deep.

By the time I finished the soft parts like the chicken leg and wing, I was seriously full...
Finishing with kalguksu noodles from the noodle set
But that's not the end. There's still the kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) included in the noodle set!

Adding the noodles to the dak hanmari broth and sprinkling on some pepper made for an absolutely rich finish. The mul kimchi cabbage, cooked down soft, was delicious too.. the noodles were bouncy and the broth deep — the perfect way to end the meal. I walked out having thoroughly enjoyed my carbs too >_<
Verdict: Migeum chicken hot pot worth skipping Dongdaemun for
If you're looking for a good Korean restaurant near Migeum Station, I recommend Sugyeokok Bundang Migeum! The dak hanmari was delicious, the chicken salad combo was great, and above all the broth was really clean and deep. If you're looking for a good spot for a family meal or a hearty, restorative meal around Gumi-dong, I think you'll be satisfied. Finishing it off with the noodles kept me full for a long while.
Personally, I thought it was tastier than the dak hanmari places in Dongdaemun, and actually cleaner and more comfortable to enjoy. 100% planning to come back whenever I'm craving hot broth :)
