Huidungbari and Yedungbari on a Busan trip 💛 Trying to decide what to eat for dinner, we figured since we'd come all the way to Busan we wanted more than just a meal — some atmosphere too. So we found Teppan King in Seomyeon, Busan.

View of the teppanyaki seating at Teppan King in Seomyeon, Busan

This is a place where they cook teppanyaki dishes right in front of you. The second I saw photos I thought, oh this looks fun, so I made a reservation and went, haha lol.

We got there around 6pm, and a bit later couples kept streaming in. So many couples, and from what I could tell, quite a few were still in the 'talking stage' too lol. I get why they come here 👀 ❤️ It's not just sitting across from each other eating — you get to watch the teppan cooking and the whole performance, which is great for setting the mood on a date.

Where is Teppan King, and is there parking? 46 m from Seomyeon Station Exit 6

Teppan King is about 46m from Seomyeon Station Exit 6, so it's really easy to get to by subway. The exterior alone feels like an izakaya tucked in a Japanese back alley!

Teppan King exterior with red lantern and yellow window frames

With the red lantern lit up, yellow window frames, and an okonomiyaki sign, I suddenly felt like I'd traveled to Japan instead of Busan lol. Our accommodation was near Minam Station, and since driving into Seomyeon seemed like it'd be a hassle, we just left the car at the hotel and took the subway. Definitely the right call 👍 ❤️

There's no parking at the restaurant itself, so if you're driving, use a nearby paid lot.

Teppan King seating and mood: the counter seats by the grill are the fun ones

Teppan King has regular table seats, seats right in front of the grill, and spaces for larger groups. Once you step inside, the mood continues right from the exterior.

Warm yellow interior, lots of Japanese-style decor, and slightly dim lighting — perfect vibe for drinks. There are regular table seats, seats right at the grill, and separate spaces for bigger groups, so it seemed to work whether you're on a date or out with friends.

But in my opinion, sitting close to the grill here is a must for the fun factor lol.

What comes in the 59,000 won C set, and what does lemon draft beer cost?

Here's how the menu is set up, haha.

We ordered the C set for ₩59,000

  • Wagyu kkotgalbisal (flower short rib flap) steak
  • Scallop and shrimp grill
  • Special okonomiyaki

Plus two lemon draft beers! Lemon draft is ₩4,500 a glass, so the total came to ₩68,000. The set was really solid for two people — seafood, meat, and okonomiyaki, all in one go. Since we were in Busan, first things first — cheers with beer 🍻

Watching the sizzling teppan while sipping a cold draft beer really made it feel like a proper trip. Isn't eating something good with a beer half the point of traveling? Haha.

What is the teppan show at Teppan King like?

The staff member stood right at the grill, and the moment I saw them cook I thought,

Oh, this person's a pro.

Hahaha, seriously, the hand movements were on another level. Handling the grill looked completely second nature, and the whole cooking process felt almost like watching a show.

Flames shooting up off the grill, ingredients being cooked in a flash — the two of us just kept watching lol. The staff were friendly too and checked in on us comfortably throughout. This kind of thing is probably the charm of an izakaya date near Seomyeon Station.

Scallop and shrimp grill: plump, juicy and not fishy

The first thing we really dug into was the scallop and shrimp grill

Scallop and shrimp grilled on the teppan

The ingredients here were genuinely top quality 🥰🥰 Seafood can get fishy if it's even slightly off. But the scallops, shrimp — none of it had any fishy smell, all plump and juicy 🤭🤭

Especially the shrimp!! It was grilled into such a pretty shape too, and when you bite in, it's seriously springy.

Plump shrimp grilled on the teppan

One bite and that springy texture was fully there, the flesh was plump — genuinely delicious ㅠㅠ Even better with the draft beer lol. The scallops were nice and thick too.

Thickly grilled scallop

Not thin, shriveled scallops — these were plump with real bite, and grilled right on the teppan so the savory aroma came through nicely. As a seafood lover, I was already satisfied at this point lol.

Wagyu kkotgalbisal short rib steak, best eaten with wasabi

Next was the wagyu kkotgalbisal (flower short rib flap) steak. First off, the meat wasn't tough at all. The texture felt truly alive and tender, but you still got a real sense of chewing the meat — I loved it 😍😍

And the steak doesn't just show up alone — bean sprouts, mushrooms, and onion come with it. A piece of meat with sprouts and onion on top, dipped in sauce — so good lol. Eating it with the vegetables made it way less heavy than just meat, meat, meat.

And here's a combo I loved.

A piece of wagyu kkotgalbisal steak topped with wasabi

Meat + wasabi haha. A little wasabi keeps the savory flavor of the kkotgalbisal intact but cleans up the finish, so you just keep eating. Dipping in sauce is good, adding wasabi is good — fun to switch it up bite by bite.

Special okonomiyaki with bonito flakes fluttering on top

Last up was the special okonomiyaki

Special okonomiyaki topped with bonito flakes

Passed the looks test instantly. Sauce and mayo drizzled all over the top, piled high with bonito flakes fluttering from the heat 😆😆 It just looks delicious on sight.

Since it's the special version, there was plenty of seafood inside, and the sauce was slightly sweet and salty — exactly the flavor you want with drinks!

The okonomiyaki wasn't dry or overly floury; you could really taste the ingredients inside. A bite of that, a sip of beer, and it just felt like fully enjoying a Busan trip lol.

Is Teppan King a good first date spot in Seomyeon?

What I personally loved here was that beyond the food being good, the whole process of eating was fun. They don't just bring the food and leave — they cook the teppan dishes right in front of you, so there's always something to watch lol.

So I think this would work really well even for a first date or still-a-bit-awkward talking-stage situation. Watch the teppan show, think 'oh this looks good,' eat while chatting, have a beer lol — really easy to keep the mood going.

Couples kept coming in the whole time we were eating, and I could totally see why this is a popular date spot in Seomyeon.

Teppan King verdict: would we go back?

On this Busan trip, Huidungbari and Yedungbari ate great food, watched the teppan show, and had a cold draft beer — totally satisfied!

C set dishes on the teppan with draft beer

The scallop-shrimp grill was plump with no fishy smell and the shrimp was springy, the kkotgalbisal steak wasn't tough and had great texture, and the okonomiyaki was loaded with seafood with a tasty sauce.

All three dishes from the Teppan King C set laid out

All three dishes were solid, no misses lol. The staff were friendly and the teppan show was genuinely fun to watch, so I'd happily stop by again next time I'm in Busan.

They even feed the neighborhood stray cats — such a warm touch. I'd definitely go back 💛

If you're looking for a bar with good atmosphere in Seomyeon, or want something a bit more special than an ordinary bar for a date, I'd recommend Teppan King, an izakaya near Seomyeon Station :)
