Suwon Station noodle restaurant with barley rice first: Daseon
In short
Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch (다선칼국수 본점) is a 25-year-old kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) restaurant on Hyanggyo-ro, a 10-minute walk from Exit 8 of Suwon Station. This lunch was Daseon kal-nakji (noodles with octopus) for two at 32,000 won and a pork platter at 15,000 won, with warm barley rice brought out before the mains to eat with gochujang and dried radish. Between the noodles, octopus and boiled pork, Daseon Kalguksu fills a table fast and is worth it for a hearty meal near Suwon Station.

I was looking for somewhere to have lunch in Suwon and ended up at Daseon Kalguksu's Suwon Station main branch! I've always liked kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), and since this place also serves a bunch of Korean dishes, I got to enjoy kalguksu together with a pork platter haha. Let me introduce Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch right away~
Where is Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch, and what are the hours?
Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch is on the 1st floor at 48 Hyanggyo-ro, Paldal-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do, within a 10-minute walk of Exit 8 at Suwon Station. It's open daily from 10:30 to 22:00, with a break time from 15:30 to 17:00; closed days are posted on Naver.

25 years on Hyanggyo-ro, with the feel of a Korean tavern
Daseon Kalguksu has been running for 25 years now, and they say they prepare food with the mindset of a mother cooking for her family.
With the atmosphere of a Korean pub (hansik jujeom), it's a place where you can both eat a meal and have drinks, so it's great for a hearty lunch and then relaxed drinks with anju (drinking snacks) in the evening haha.

Alongside the everyday classic kalguksu, they offer a range of menus including dasen kalguksu, kal-nakji (noodles with octopus), jang kalguksu, and mandu kalguksu, and in the evening you can enjoy dishes like stir-fried octopus and squid or spicy clam soup as anju!!
Barley rice served before the mains arrive
Barley rice served

Before our ordered dishes arrived, they served warm barley rice first! It was nice being able to nibble on the warm barley rice bit by bit while waiting for the main menu ><

It was nice and light to eat while waiting for the main course, and it felt like the meal had already started, which was satisfying! It had been a while since I'd had barley rice — it was tasty even plain, and mixing in the gochujang (chili paste) placed on every table made it even better haha.

Kimchi and dried radish: the standard side dishes
I also tried the kimchi and dried radish (mumallaengi) — as basic side dishes, they pair well with noodle dishes like kalguksu, so they were good to nibble on in between bites haha. The dried radish especially had a crunchy texture, and they even added a bit on top of the barley rice!!

What we ordered at Daseon Kalguksu and what it cost
Compared to ordering just kalguksu, adding the pork platter made the table feel a lot more filled out~~
- Dasen Kal-nakji for two: ₩32,000
- Pork platter (jeopsi suyuk): ₩15,000
- Zero-sugar cola: ₩2,000
Pork platter (jeopsi suyuk), 15,000 won
Pork platter: ₩15,000

If you're visiting with a group, ordering a main noodle dish together with something like this pork platter to share sounds really good.

They say they place importance on preparing each dish fresh the moment it's ordered so it's satisfying!! Eating it together with the dried radish made it really delicious ><
Daseon kal-nakji, 16,000 won per person (two-person minimum)
Dasen Kal-nakji: ₩16,000 per person (minimum order of two)

And the dish I was most looking forward to was the dasen kal-nakji!! Kal-nakji is a dish that lets you enjoy Daseon Kalguksu's noodles together with octopus, apparently.

Adding octopus made it feel even heartier than kalguksu alone. If you like noodle dishes and seafood both, this is definitely a menu you have to try haha.

Being able to eat noodles and octopus together in one bowl made it suit a lunch menu well too — one bite in and I thought it'd also be great as an anju for drinks, or even as hangover food lol.

Worth it for a filling meal near Suwon Station
Wrapping the bossam (boiled pork) side dish together with the kalguksu made it even better. Next time I'd like to try the jang kalguksu and the side mandu (dumpling) menu that I didn't get to try this time!! If you want a hearty meal near Suwon Station, especially if you want to enjoy kalguksu together with Korean dishes like pork, I highly recommend visiting Daseon Kalguksu Suwon Station Main Branch~! haha
