Songdo sushi restaurant date at 5pm Saturday, no wait: Sushi Doku

In short

Sushi Doku The Songdo is a Japanese sushi restaurant on the 2nd floor of Onesta Mall in Yeonsu, Incheon. The writer visited with her boyfriend at 5pm on a Saturday, walked straight in with no wait, and ordered the elegant premium sushi set, 10 pieces for 25,900 won, picking ankimo (monkfish liver), shrimp and eel as the best three. Arriving right as break time ends at 5pm is the way to skip the queue at Sushi Doku The Songdo, and dinner flows easily into shopping at Songhyeon-a outlet and Triple Street.

On a Saturday afternoon, my boyfriend and I headed to Songdo for a date after a while, and while searching for good restaurants near Songhyeon-a, I found Sushi Doku The Songdo listed as the #1 sushi place on Naver search nationwide, so I decided to try it.

I went in half-doubting it, but after eating there, I got why it's #1.

How long is the wait at Sushi Doku The Songdo at 5pm on a Saturday?

I'd read a lot of reviews about brutal waits, so I was a little worried, but we arrived around 5pm and luckily got seated right away with no wait at all.

Turns out that really was thanks to our timing — while we were eating, a line started forming around 6pm, and by the time we finished and left around 6:30, the entrance was packed with people.

If you want to avoid waiting, I'd recommend timing your visit exactly when break time ends at 5pm!

Miss that golden window and it fills up instantly, haha. Reservations are only for parties of 6 or more, but apparently if you book, there's a perk called the "Welcome Lettering Garden" made with Norwegian superior-grade salmon, given as a thank-you for writing a review. They say they'll even write a custom message on the salmon-flower plating, but it's limited to 20 a day — I'd love to reserve ahead next time and try that too. So curious!

Curtained tables and an open kitchen at Sushi Doku The Songdo

Clean, tidy interior

Walking in, the wood-tone interior gave off a strong Japanese feel — much cleaner and more atmospheric than I expected. The tables were slightly screened off from each other with curtains, giving it an upscale yet private feel.

Perfect layout for a date! They also have kids' chairs available, so it seems like a fine option for families too.

Since it's an open kitchen, we could watch the chef prepping sushi right in front of us, which was a small but fun detail. With so many customers and constant delivery orders coming in, the kitchen never had a moment's rest while we ate. They said they follow a principle of using and finishing the day's ingredients within the same day — with turnover that fast, there's no way for ingredients to sit around, which made me trust the place even more.

If you save the place on Naver Place and write a receipt review, they give one premium otoro sushi (tuna, worth ₩6,900) per person as a thank-you — definitely take advantage of getting a delicious piece of sushi for just one review!

Table setting with a soy sauce brush

One thing that stood out to me — instead of dipping in soy sauce, they gave us a brush to paint soy sauce directly onto the sushi, so we didn't even need ginger to cleanse the palate between bites. This was surprisingly fun and convenient.

What's in the 10-piece premium sushi set for 25,900 won?

What we ordered was the elegant premium sushi set 10pc — ₩25,900.

The set arrived beautifully plated, great for photos too. The staff told us to eat in the order of white fish → tuna → salmon, and following that order made each ingredient's flavor much clearer.

Salad with mayo sauce and side dishes

The salad came with fresh vegetables and mayo sauce, and they refill it once you finish, so just ask if you want more.

  • Chawanmushi (steamed egg custard): had truffle in it for a subtle fragrance, with bits of shrimp and ginkgo nut
  • The karaage (fried chicken) came in 2 pieces, crispy outside and juicy inside — went really well with the salad
  • The shrimp tempura was huge, and one bite made its presence fully known — hey, that's some shrimp!

Truffle-scented chawanmushi and udon

The udon broth was deep and rich, so I kept reaching for more sips.

Close-up of ankimo and eel sushi

Best three pieces: ankimo (monkfish liver), shrimp and eel

If I had to pick a top 3, I'd go with ankimo (monkfish liver), shrimp, and eel. The ankimo had a creamy yet weighty, luxurious lingering flavor; the shrimp was chewy right as you bit into it, with a rich texture that clung to your palate; and the eel was thick with smoky, savory depth — each had its own distinct charm, and all three were too good to skip.

Warm plum tea served after the meal

On our way out after finishing the meal, there was warm plum tea waiting at the entrance — a perfect way to cleanse the palate with a cup.

Mouthwash and floss station near the register

At the register, they even had mouthwash, floss, and toothpicks thoughtfully set out, which made it feel like they took care of every detail down to the very end of the meal.

What sets Sushi Doku The Songdo apart

With traditional Japanese aging techniques and a same-day use, same-day finish policy for ingredients, freshness was something I really trusted, and seeing delivery orders keep coming in nonstop while we ate made it visibly clear that high turnover was guaranteeing that freshness.

Who this Songdo sushi restaurant suits best

Table spread at Sushi Doku The Songdo recommended for dates
  • Couples wanting a date in a private atmosphere for an anniversary or special occasion
  • Anyone looking for an upscale family dining spot with kids' chairs
  • Anyone planning to combine it with shopping at Songhyeon-a or Triple Street

Final verdict: sushi first, then shopping at Songhyeon-a outlet

Table at Sushi Doku The Songdo after finishing the meal

Originally I planned to just eat and head straight home, but once we stepped out, Songhyeon-a and Triple Street were right there, so I finally bought the running shoes I'd been putting off and browsed the stores. The flow of eating and then naturally moving on to shopping was perfect. At around ₩20,000–30,000 per person, it feels like a complete date course on its own! Next time, I want to come back for the sashimi.
