Why we visited Handam Guksu in Aewol between breakfast and lunch on a weekend
While looking for a good Aewol lunch spot, I visited Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch. It's open 10:00–20:30, and you can use the parking lot in front or a nearby public parking lot.
On a weekend morning, looking for something filling in Aewol, I ended up at Handam Guksu.
Noodles felt like the right call for that in-between hour — not too heavy — and best of all, the ocean view while eating was striking. Aewol has so many good restaurants that it's always hard to choose, but that day, clean Jeju-style pork noodle soup paired with an ocean view won me over.

Ocean-view seating and parking at Handam Guksu
Walking into Handam Guksu, the first thing that caught my eye was the atmosphere — a space where you can dine while looking out at the Jeju sea. If you're in Aewol on a weekend, visiting one more sightseeing spot is nice, but so is taking it easy and eating with an ocean view like this.
It's a solid choice for an Aewol lunch spot on days when something too heavy in the morning feels like a lot, but grabbing just anything feels like a letdown.

There's a dedicated parking lot in front of the restaurant. If it's full, you can use the nearby public parking lot.

Aewol pork noodle soup: how clear and light is the broth?
The pork noodle soup (gogi guksu) we ordered arrived looking clean and appetizing. Jeju-style pork noodle soup usually brings to mind a rich, heavy broth, but this one felt relatively light and clean.

The broth itself wasn't overly heavy, so it went down easy whether for breakfast or lunch. Above all, the kimchi that came with it was really impressive. It looked appetizing, and one bite confirmed it — spicy but clean-tasting. It wasn't kimchi that was just aggressively spicy; it had a refreshing kind of heat that paired really well with the light pork noodle soup. A bite of noodles followed by kimchi cleaned my palate right up, and I kept reaching for more.

Cheongyang chili pickled radish, the standout side dish
Besides the kimchi, the pickled radish (mujangajji) was delicious too. Crunchy radish with cheongyang chili added a subtle spicy kick. At first I thought it was just a mild side dish, but the more I ate, the more that sharp cheongyang chili flavor came through — a great match with the noodles. A light dish like pork noodle soup really benefits from a tangy, spicy side like this.

Mandu and bibim noodles: enough for a filling meal
Along with the pork noodle soup, we also ordered mandu (dumplings). The dumpling wrappers were nicely steamed and moist, going down smoothly. They went especially well with the mixed noodles (bibim guksu). The mixed noodles had a seasoning that really hit the spot, with shredded pork mixed through the noodles, making it filling enough as a standalone meal. I also liked that the mixed noodles came with broth served separately — you could sip it between bites and enjoy it to your own taste.

The spicy mixed noodles and mandu made a pretty great combo.

🍜 Honest verdict on Handam Guksu's pork noodle soup
The pork noodle soup at Handam Guksu in Aewol looked clean and fuss-free from the start.

Jeju-style pork noodle soup usually brings to mind a rich, thick pork bone broth simmered for hours, but this place had a clear, light broth style without any gamey smell.

Whether for breakfast or lunch, it went down clean without feeling heavy on the stomach.
