I had something to do near Seohyeon Station and was trying to figure out what to eat, so I searched for galbijjim (braised spicy ribs) restaurants near Seohyeon Station and ended up at Gimcheongja Maeun Galbijjim Seohyeon Station Branch! This place is famous for its spicy galbijjim, and I'd wanted to try it for a while. Finally got to eat it haha! If you love spicy food, you've probably heard of this place before.

Where is Gimcheongja Maeun Galbijjim Seohyeon Station Branch, and how do you get there?
Gimcheongja Maeun Galbijjim Seohyeon Station Branch is on the second floor of a building near Seohyeon Station. I thought it might be hard to find if it were tucked down an alley, but it was more visible than expected, so I found it without much trouble. It's also close to the station, making it convenient to reach by public transit!

What is the restaurant like at dinner? Nearly every table taken
We visited during the evening dinner slot, and I was surprised at how many customers there were the moment we walked in. The restaurant itself is fairly spacious, but almost every table was full! Luckily there was exactly one seat left, so we could sit down without waiting haha.
Overall the place was clean and the tables weren't cramped, so it was comfortable to eat there. Seems like a good spot to go with friends, or with a group for galbijjim.

What we ordered: mild-spice pork galbijjim, steamed egg and rice
Looking over the menu, we ordered the mild-spice pork galbijjim! I really liked that you can choose the spice level to suit your taste. Even people who can't handle spicy food much should be able to eat it without worry. And of course we added the steamed egg and rice that are essential with spicy galbijjim haha.
The fried dishes on the menu looked delicious too, but since we already had galbijjim and fried rice to get through that day, I held back... Next time I'm definitely trying the fried food too!

There was also a Naver review event running when I visited, so it might be worth checking if you go.

Steamed egg and side dishes arrive first
After ordering, the steamed egg and side dishes came out first. The side dishes were a nice pairing for the galbijjim too, perfect to eat between spicy bites.
And the steamed egg was seriously so fluffy and delicious!! Warm and soft, it went perfectly with the spicy galbijjim. One bite of galbijjim, one bite of steamed egg, repeat forever... haha.

How does the mild-spice pork galbijjim taste?
Finally, the pork galbijjim I'd been waiting for!! Doesn't it just look amazing from the visuals alone... The ribs were coated properly in red sauce, with glass noodles and rice cakes mixed in — the kind of sight that makes you reach for rice immediately haha.

Even though we ordered mild spice, the sauce itself was so good that I kept going back for more. It wasn't just spicy — it was a savory, deeply flavored sauce that went really well with rice.
Most of all, the meat was more generous than I expected! Tender meat coated thickly in sauce, eaten with rice — an absolute rice thief, in the best way. The glass noodles and rice cakes were also fun to pick through, so I never got tired of it till the end.

The best way to eat it: wrapped in seaweed
And personally, the combo I really want to recommend is wrapping it in gim (seaweed)!! Put the galbijjim meat and rice on a sheet of gim and eat it in one bite — pure bliss, haha. I kept thinking 'now I get why this place is famous.' Writing this now, I want to eat it again...
We were already pretty full from the galbijjim, rice, and steamed egg, but there was no way we were leaving without trying the fried rice!

Is the fried rice finish worth ordering?
We finished off by ordering the fried rice too. At first I thought 'I'm way too full, I'll just taste it,' but once it arrived it looked so good... in the end I took bite after bite until it was nearly gone haha.
The savory flavor of the galbijjim sauce was soaked right into the fried rice, making it a perfect closing dish. If you go for galbijjim, even if you're a bit full, definitely try the fried rice too haha.
Final verdict on Gimcheongja near Seohyeon Station ✨
Overall the portions were generous and the meat plentiful, so we ate until we were completely full, and being able to adjust the spice level was a nice touch — Gimcheongja Maeun Galbijjim Seohyeon Station Branch! Next time I'll try a spicier level along with the fried food too haha. From galbijjim to steamed egg to fried rice, everything was so good that I'd definitely go back!! Recommending this to anyone looking for good restaurants near Seohyeon Station ❤️
