I haven't seen him this happy with a haircut in ages!

My husband has really thick hair and his sides always flip out, plus he barely ever goes to the salon. This time I looked into which Songdo hair salon does men's hair well and we ended up at Juno Hair Songdo Crystal Ocean. Designer Junbo took care of him today, doing a cut, a top perm, and a down perm on the sides.

To cut straight to it — total success! My husband, who almost never says he's satisfied after a haircut, was genuinely happy this time. Juno Hair Songdo Crystal Ocean is located at 40 Landmark-ro360beon-gil, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon (306-dong, 101, 102-ho). It's open from 10:00 to 21:00, and you can park in the building's underground lot.

It's a standalone, single-story shop, so it caught my eye even from a distance. Inside, it was much roomier and more comfortable than I expected.

The seats had plenty of space between them so it didn't feel cramped, and the whole place felt clean and bright — pleasant to sit in for a while. A salon visit can take anywhere from an hour to several hours if you're getting a perm, so for me the comfort of the space matters just as much as the skill of the stylist. Juno Hair Songdo Crystal Ocean scored well on that front too :)

One corner was noticeably brighter and cuter than the rest — turns out it's a seating area set up for kids. Seeing how my husband's hair turned out, I naturally thought, 'Maybe I should bring Yul here next time?'

Another thing that stood out was the books! Most salons keep books or magazines tucked into a shelf, but here they were displayed cover-out in a row, so you could see at a glance what was available. There were so many I wanted to read that waiting never got boring.

My husband isn't the type to bring reference photos of the style he wants. His attitude is basically, 'They're the expert, they'll figure it out.' I always tell him, 'That's not how it works, you have to say what you want!' ...but apparently it does work that way. Here, anyway haha

A careful consultation with designer Junbo first

Before the service, he had a thorough consultation with designer Junbo, who considered his current hair texture, face shape, and everyday styling habits to recommend a suitable direction. For hair like my husband's — thick with flyaway sides — it turns out it's more important to shape the overall form and calm the sides down than to simply cut it short.

After the consultation, they decided on a cut plus a top perm plus a side down perm. Even though he hadn't come in with a specific style in mind, the designer read his current hair and set the direction, so my husband could relax and leave it to him.

While waiting, they brought out tea and snacks, so I sipped a cold iced tea and waited comfortably.

Best of all, there were so many books I wanted to read. That day I picked up 'The Art of Worldly Wisdom,' and I nearly finished it during the roughly two hours it took to do my husband's hair! He walked away with hair he loved, and I walked away with a full dose of wisdom :D

Once the cut properly began, I could tell right away something was different. At his old salon, cuts were always over pretty quickly. This time, even watching from a distance, I could see the designer constantly checking the shape and cutting with real precision.

After everything was done, I asked my husband and he said he felt the same way. While researching men's hair salons in Songdo, I'd read that the cut matters most for men's hair — and experiencing it firsthand, I finally understood why.

Perm on top, down perm for the sides that stick out

After the cut came the top perm and the side down perm. With hair like my husband's, where the sides flip out easily, even a neat cut can start looking puffy on the sides after a bit of time.

So the sides were calmed down with a down perm, while the top was given natural volume and curl so it wouldn't fall flat. Treating the top and sides differently made the overall head shape look much cleaner.

Even after the blow-dry, it wasn't over. Designer Junbo kept checking the overall shape and fine-tuning it right to the end.

And finally, done! He walked out looking like a completely different person from when he walked in :) Everything looked so much cleaner overall. In particular, the sides that used to flip out settled down neatly with the down perm, which made his jawline look more defined, while the top kept a natural volume that balanced the whole look nicely.

The back was also trimmed neatly to the length he wanted, and from any angle — front, side, or back — the silhouette flowed together naturally.

It wasn't an overly styled look, but it definitely looked polished and clean. Proof once again that it's not just clothes that make the man haha.

No matter how good a style looks, it's pointless if the person isn't comfortable or happy with it. But he looked in the mirror and said he liked it, and he was still saying he was happy with it on the way home — so I'd say we found the right place!

Next time: bringing Yul in for a haircut

Since I was so happy with my husband's hair, I naturally got curious about our 9-year-old, Yul, too — his bangs also tend to flip out. I asked all kinds of questions about pricing and suitable styles for a kid's cut and perm, and they explained everything kindly. So next time, I'm definitely bringing Yul in!

They even sent us home with samples to make at-home upkeep easier — I really appreciated that!

A salon day that lifted more than the hair

It's been a long time since I've seen my husband this happy after a haircut. Sometimes you can tell a lot about a person's character from these small gestures. It wasn't just that he did a great job with the hair — watching him work, I found myself thinking, 'This person is really going to do well.' I genuinely wanted to cheer him on. :)
