Grilled lamb ribs and perilla oil makguksu near Olympic Park: Dangsan

In short

Dangsan Odol Bangi Branch is a charcoal grill restaurant in Songpa, Seoul, a 5-minute walk from Olympic Park Station and Bangi Station. Lamb ribs for two (200g per portion) came with a side of perilla oil makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles), and the gently glowing charcoal cooked the meat through without scorching the outside while the noodles refreshed the palate between rich bites. Dangsan Odol Bangi Branch is an easy first taste of lamb ribs, especially dipped in cumin.

A 5-minute walk from Bangi Station and Olympic Park Station

Visited Dangsan Odol Bangi Branch, a famous lamb rib spot in Bangi-dong that even appeared on the TV show Wednesday Food Talk 😆 It was super convenient to get to — within 5 minutes' walk from both Olympic Park Station and Bangi Station!! The streets nearby were wide too, so it was easy to reach by public transit.

A long room with 100+ seats and group tables

It didn't look that big from outside, but it's quite deep front to back! It looked like it could easily seat over 100 people, and there was a long row of group tables set up too, which seemed great for company dinners, gatherings, or family meals.

Dining hall with early-evening customers

Even though we came for early dinner, plenty of people were already eating, as befits a real neighborhood favorite. The menu!

The menu: beef, lamb, pork and even chicken feet

Grilling the meat and refilling side dishes is self-service. Oddly for a BBQ place, they also serve sujebi (hand-torn dough soup) and stir-fried octopus. Everything just seemed like it would be good... What surprised me most was that this one restaurant covers beef, lamb, pork, AND chicken feet — doing just one thing well is hard enough, so how do they pull off four?

There were also meat menu items with names I'd never heard before, like odol galbi and 'silk mango pork neck,' which made me curious! But we headed straight for the lamb ribs we came for. I'd only ever had lamb skewers, so this was my first time with lamb ribs, and I was pretty excited haha.

The side dishes

Radish salad, sliced onions, pickled radish, soy-marinated perilla leaves, salt, cumin, and more all came out neatly arranged.

Whoa, look at that color! Even someone who doesn't know much about meat could tell it was fresh and good quality. This is 200g per serving.

Lamb ribs placed on well-heated charcoal

How was the charcoal?

We laid the lamb ribs down on charcoal that was really well heated. The heat from the coals was significant, but the meat didn't cook too fast and scorch — instead it cooked slowly all the way through. Seems like the charcoal had been burning gently for a long time!! 👍 Despite my worries, the flames never flared up, and the charcoal condition was very easy to grill with.

Flip it gently a few times and before you know it, it's ready to eat~~ I heard lamb ribs don't need to be 100% cooked through — is that right???

Grilled lamb ribs cooked evenly through to the center

I dipped the tender, chewy lamb ribs right into the cumin, and it had a subtle, sophisticated lamb aroma along with a taste that was both rich and clean — outstanding. This place... is genuinely a lamb rib spot worth knowing. My boyfriend, who loves lamb, admitted it was pretty great too!

Grilled scallions served per number of portions

Grilled scallions come out per number of servings too, and they were grilled to a moist finish that made my mouth water. They pair really well with the meat 🙏 Grilled gently through to the inside, once you peel back the outer layer, it's not spicy at all — just moist and sweet haha.

The side order: perilla oil makguksu

Perilla oil buckwheat noodles ordered as a side
Thin buckwheat noodles topped with seaweed flakes

The buckwheat noodles were as thin as somyeon, which was a nice surprise. Super chewy, rinsed cold and refreshing, with a fantastic combination of seaweed flakes and perilla oil,,, 🤤💦 Lamb can get a little greasy by the time you're through it, so I'd recommend this for refreshing your palate and reviving your appetite in between. It disappeared in no time.

Lamb rib bone being eaten by hand

Rib cuts and sauce pairings

Lastly, gotta gnaw on the ribs too. This cut is a bit different in texture from the lean meat. There's relatively more fat attached, making it a softer, more tender bite. There's real fun in gnawing on the bone,,,

  • The basic move: dip straight into cumin to maximize the pleasant lamb aroma
  • Soy-onion sauce
  • A dab of wasabi with salt

Bottom line: this place really knows how to do lamb ribs

Hand-washing area inside the restaurant

It was convenient that Dangsan Odol Bangi Branch had a separate hand-washing area outside the restroom too. The lamb must have been good quality, because it wasn't tough at all, and even after the meal, a subtle, pleasant lamb aroma lingered in my mouth — not a bad thing at all 😗 I think I'll be coming back to Dangsan Odol Bangi Branch whenever I'm craving lamb ribs again.
