Two-person okonomiyaki set with 3 pickle refills: Oshi Black Seongsu

In short

Oshi Black Seongsu is a teppanyaki and Japanese restaurant in a basement space on Seoul Forest 4-gil in Seongdong, Seoul. Visiting as a pair, the writer ordered the two-person selection with classic okonomiyaki, yakisoba pork belly rolls and potato salad beans, added a black sesame tomato salad through a receipt review event, and refilled the house cucumber pickles three times. The okonomiyaki, cooked on the main griddle, was transferred to a small personal hot plate so it stayed warm to the last bite.

I was craving Japanese food or teppanyaki in Seongsu, so I went to Oshi Black Seongsu.

Oshi Black Seongsu is open daily from 11:30 to 22:00, with last order at 21:00. It's near Seoul Forest, so it's great for a meal after a date or a walk there, and it's a solid pick whenever you're looking for good Japanese food in Seongsu.

You could smell the good-restaurant vibe from the entrance.

Going as a pair: what comes with the two-person selection

Since we came as a pair, instead of ordering each dish separately we went with the two-person selection. It let us try several dishes at once, so it was a good choice when you want to sample everything from okonomiyaki (savory Japanese pancake) to yakisoba.

What I ordered: classic okonomiyaki, yakisoba pork belly rolls, and potesara beans (potato salad with beans). We also wrote a receipt review and got a black sesame tomato salad on top of that. For drinks, we had a canned sparkling grapefruit ade and a cider.

🥔 Potesara beans

First up was the potesara beans. It's potato salad mixed with beans, so it was a nice light dish to have before the heavier teppan mains.

Having a dish like this before the heavier teppan items like okonomiyaki and yakisoba made the pre-meal table feel a bit more varied. We split one between us while waiting for the mains.

And then the dish I was most looking forward to that day — classic okonomiyaki. What stood out at Oshi Black Seongsu was that instead of just plating a finished dish and bringing it out, they cook it right on the griddle in front of you and then transfer it to the small personal hot plate in front of you.

You get to watch the whole teppan-cooking process happen right in front of you, and once the okonomiyaki is done and placed on the personal hot plate, you can enjoy it warm the whole time you're eating.

Eating the okonomiyaki straight off the little hot plate on the table really gave that teppan-dining feeling. Topped with chopped scallions and bonito flakes, it also photographed really well. If you're looking for okonomiyaki in Seongsu, I think this style of griddle cooking will feel fun too.

🥓 Yakisoba pork belly rolls

Next up was the yakisoba pork belly rolls.

I was curious just from the name — being able to enjoy yakisoba and pork belly together made it a totally different dish from the okonomiyaki.

Ordering the two-person selection meant we got to try a little of everything, and splitting the dishes let each of us enjoy different flavors. If you like both okonomiyaki and yakisoba, this is worth trying at least once.

Receipt-review black sesame tomato salad and 3 pickle refills

Through the receipt review event, we also got to try the black sesame tomato salad. Between the tomato salad with black sesame sauce and the house-made pickles that come as a standard side, the main dishes felt even better.

The house-made pickles especially were so good I refilled them three times. Thank you to the owner for so kindly refilling them for me ~ the cucumber pickles were honestly today's MVP.

That day we had soda instead of alcohol — sparkling grapefruit ade and cider — but I thought next time a beer would pair really well with the okonomiyaki. Total drinking food!!

📍 For when you're craving teppanyaki near Seoul Forest

What we had that day at Oshi Black Seongsu was the [two-person selection]:

  • ✔️ Classic okonomiyaki
  • ✔️ Yakisoba pork belly rolls
  • ✔️ Potesara beans
  • ✔️ Black sesame tomato salad
  • ✔️ Sparkling grapefruit ade
  • ✔️ Cider

Above all, what stuck with me was how the okonomiyaki, cooked on the main griddle, got transferred to the little hot plate right in front of us. If you're craving Japanese food near Seoul Forest, or looking for good Japanese food near Seoul Forest, okonomiyaki in Seongsu, or a good restaurant near Ttukseom Station, this place is worth keeping in mind.

It seemed like it would pair really well with a beer over teppanyaki in the evening, so next time I want to come back with beer and try some other dishes.
