Songpa fish market seafood platter when gizzard shad sold out

In short

Yeongjae Susan is a raw fish restaurant on the 1st floor of Garak Mall's sales building at Garak Market in Songpa, Seoul. Arriving too late in gizzard shad season, the writer packed a ₩65,000 sea bass, flounder and red seabream sashimi set to eat at home instead, finding the texture soft with none of that mushy feel. Parking is right by the escalator on basement level 3, and there's a 3-hour free parking voucher too.

Today I want to introduce Yeongjae Susan, a raw fish restaurant at the Garak Market seafood market in Jamsil. It's a well-known sashimi spot that won an excellence award in the dining category from the Korea Consumer Industry Evaluation, an excellence award in the delivery food category, and consistently ranks at the top for assorted sashimi delivery across various delivery platforms.

If you park near pillar E09 on basement level 3, you can walk straight to the escalator. The parking lot is quite spacious, so there's no need to worry about finding a spot!

How to get to Yeongjae Susan

Take the escalator up to the 1st floor and the shop is right there on your right. Since it's right next to the escalator, it was easy to find. If you're taking the subway, come out of Garak Market Station Exit 2, and enter through 'Garak Mall Seafood Gate 6' on your left — Yeongjae Susan will be on the left.

What the shop looks like

Sashimi and seafood displayed in front of the shop

Here's the storefront of Yeongjae Susan. There were many kinds of sashimi and seafood on display. Because of the high volume of orders, live fish is apparently restocked more than three times a day at Yeongjae Susan. That means the assorted sashimi turns over well, with nothing sitting around, so you can always try quality seafood. You can take your sashimi home to eat, or eat it at a nearby restaurant too — the great thing about Garak Market is being able to eat sashimi freshly cut on the spot.

Hours and parking

They're open daily from 07:00 to 22:00.

For parking, they'll give you a 3-hour free parking voucher. After 3 hours, it's ₩500 per 10 minutes. Once you get the voucher, just go register it at the basement level 3 parking lot.

Here's the price board at Yeongjae Susan. There were many fresh varieties — bluefin tuna sashimi, assorted sashimi, flounder plus mullet, thin-sliced sashimi with bones, seasonal summer croaker, large sea bass, striped mackerel jack, seasonal fall gizzard shad, sea bass, large flounder, large red seabream, and more.

Our order — sea bass, flounder & red seabream sashimi set, ₩65,000

Today we ordered the assorted sashimi set made up of large sea bass, large flounder, and large red seabream. Dad wanted to eat gizzard shad since it was the season, so we tried to order the gizzard shad set, but unfortunately we went too late and it was sold out, ㅜㅜ. So instead of the gizzard shad-flounder-red seabream combo, we ordered the sea bass-flounder-red seabream combo!

Here are the sashimi packaging sizes at Yeongjae Susan. They had small, medium, and large sizes displayed so you can see them. I always wonder how much comes out when I order at a raw fish restaurant, so it was nice not having to ask here.

Yeongjae Susan doesn't just have sashimi — they also had a wide variety of fresh seafood like live shrimp, clams, sea cucumber, sea squirt, abalone, whelk, live squid, and octopus. The meat's good, but I think the seafood is even more varied and delicious.

Live fish tank kept with clean water

The fish tanks were well maintained, and the water inside was really clean in particular. Cleanliness is the first thing I think about when visiting a restaurant, and Yeongjae Susan felt like it was number one for that.

Yeongjae Susan is open every day, year-round, and you can try fresh ingredients like live sashimi, eel, abalone, king crab, lobster, and snow crab.

Eating the takeaway sashimi at home

Instead of eating at a restaurant in Garak Market, I took it home and enjoyed it comfortably with my family. The packaging bag was a neat insulated bag. They included an ice pack too, so freshness was kept.

They even threw in chojang (vinegar chili sauce), ssamjang (thick soybean paste), soy sauce, pickled rakkyo, wasabi, and ginger as light side dishes — such a thoughtful touch. This is the sea bass, flounder, and red seabream sashimi set. You could really feel the quality in the texture — extremely soft, with none of that mushy feel at all. We had a filling, delicious sashimi feast with the family on a Friday night.

If you're looking for a good takeaway sashimi spot at the Garak Market seafood market in Jamsil, I recommend Yeongjae Susan~
