Buldak sauce monjayaki at a Mullae Japanese restaurant, Seoul: Jojo

In short

Jojo Mullae Branch is a Japanese teppanyaki restaurant in Mullae-dong, Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, where mentaiko monjayaki (savoury griddle batter) and yakisoba are cooked on the tabletop griddle. Every table at Jojo was already full on arrival at 11:37am, and the 2-person set of monjayaki, yakisoba and egg potato salad cost 39,500 won, doused in buldak (fire chicken) sauce and cooled down with waterfall potato. Jojo Mullae Branch is a safe choice even for a first monjayaki.

Is there a restaurant in Mullae-dong that fills up the moment it opens? Yes or no?

Yes there is~~ because I went and saw it myself;;;

When I went out exploring Seoul, I noticed there are SO many monjayaki and okonomiyaki places? Out of all of them I picked one and went to Jojo (JYOJYO) in Mullae-dong — here's my review!!

Jojo Mullae Branch was full at 11:37am: book ahead

I arrived in front of Jojo Mullae Branch at 11:37am and every single table was already full,,, the empty tables were reserved! Jojo Mullae does take reservations, so if there's something you absolutely have to eat, I'd recommend booking ahead haha (there's a deposit, deducted from your bill after the meal!)

Exterior of Jojo Mullae Branch in Mullae-dong

The menu board is easy to see even from outside, nice~ I came specifically to eat the 2-person monjayaki, but the signature 2-person set looked so good too,,, and now I'm curious about donpeyaki too?

Maybe because it's near Yeongdeungpo, right around noon a wave of office workers came pouring in! Jojo is also a perfect lunch spot for office workers in Mullae-dong!

The 39,500-won monjayaki set for two, ordered by tablet

At Jojo Mullae Branch you order through the tablet on the table! The set (discount) menu is such great value! Monjayaki, yakisoba, AND egg potato salad, all for ₩39,500! Absolutely great value!

The okonomiyaki also looked so so good ㅠ Even with the set menu, you could still choose the yakisoba flavor! Japanese-style rolled egg, donpeyaki,,, I'll definitely try that next time! I thought about ordering a beer mug even though it was morning, but got shot down haha

Mayonnaise, teriyaki, and buldak sauce set on the table

On the table there are sauces to go with the monjayaki and everything else! Mayonnaise, teriyaki, and buldak (fire chicken) sauce are all ready to go~

Coupons at Jojo Mullae can't be combined with other branches ㅠ that's a bit of a bummer....

When the timer goes off you absolutely have to call a staff member~ otherwise it'll all burn onto the griddle~~ scraping up the monjayaki with the little spatula,,,, I'd wanted to try this so badly,,,

One by one the tables filled up completely... there's a mirror shot spot so make sure to take a photo!

Mentaiko monjayaki hits the griddle, with mochi added from the start

The griddle heats up ~ and the monjayaki cooking begins!

I'm so glad my very first monjayaki was Jojo's mentaiko monjayaki

They put the mochi on the side to cook it too! This mochi is... hehe, you should definitely add this from the start

Waterfall potato to nibble while the monjayaki cooks

While waiting for the monjayaki I ate the waterfall potato — the soft potato salad with soft-boiled egg and onion flakes went so well together!!

A plate of soft waterfall potato salad

This neutralizes the spice — I poured a ton of buldak sauce on the monjayaki and it got really spicy,,, but eating the waterfall potato washed it right away! If I'd known, I should've just ordered the spicy karai yakisoba!!! Of course the regular Jojo yakisoba was also seriously delicious~

I want to eat it again,,, from now on my go-to meeting spot in Seomyeon will be Jojo Seomyeon~ so lucky they have a branch in Busan too?

Call a staff member when the timer rings, or the monjayaki sticks

They finish it off by sprinkling on cheese at the very end~ They set the timer for you before leaving, but when it rings you must call a staff member! Otherwise the bottom burns;;; sticks to the griddle;;; and then you can't eat delicious monjayaki!

Wowww! The monjayaki scrapes up so nicely...

The mentaiko and cabbage combo is great — at first, just looking at it, I thought why would anyone eat this?... but it's genuinely delicious;;;

Swapping the set's karai yakisoba for Jojo yakisoba

The set came with spicy karai yakisoba~ but I swapped it for Jojo yakisoba!

It's loaded with plump shrimp and also has meat in it~ a yakisoba that both seafood lovers and meat lovers can enjoy!

Pop the yolk and take a bite~ it's my first time at a restaurant that appeared on Culinary Class Wars... and now I get why it was on the show haha

Why the cheese-free side of the monjayaki is crispier

Topped with mochi, yum yum! The parts with cheese are tasty, but honestly the parts without cheese were also really good!! The cheese-free part gets grilled a bit crispier! And when you flip the cheese part over and grill it again, it turns almost cracker-like — so good!!

Try it with all the different sauces!! Honestly.... so so good!

Since it was my first time eating monjayaki, both my boyfriend and I were a little worried? But the moment we took a bite, we got it right away!! If you're also new to monjayaki, definitely visit Jojo — it's a safe bet, no way to go wrong!!
