Anyang brunch café for groups of four: seasonal French toast at Notten

In short

Notten is a brunch café in the Dongpyeon-maeul neighborhood of Anyang, Gyeonggi, where bread and coffee are served together. Four friends shared three iced Americanos, one iced latte, the seasonal campagne French toast and the wheat bread plate, and parking was available behind the shop. Notten suits a day when a group wants brunch and coffee in the same place.

These days, when I meet friends, I find myself looking for a place where we can enjoy coffee and a good meal together, rather than eating somewhere and then going to a separate café. This time too, since we were meeting up after a while, I looked for somewhere we could sit and chat comfortably while also having brunch.

That's how we ended up at Notten. It's in Dongpyeon-maeul, so it was easy to get to, and since it's a place where you can enjoy bread and coffee together, we decided to make it our meeting spot. The four of us visited and, having actually tried everything, it was even more satisfying than I expected.

What is the atmosphere like at Notten?

Clean, tidy interior of Notten café

Walking into Notten in Dongpyeon-maeul, Anyang, the overall vibe was clean and comfortable. Rather than feeling too busy or chaotic, it gave off the impression of a space good for slowly chatting over coffee.

Notten café seating, good for conversation

The four of us sat together and spent time chatting about this and that. Ordering brunch menu items along with our coffee made the time feel much more relaxed than just drinking coffee alone.

We could also see the cooking process clearly, which was reassuring from a hygiene standpoint and made us trust the place more.

Notten seating with a baby chair set up

There were baby chairs too, so if you're looking for a brunch café in Dongpyeon-maeul, Anyang that you can bring a baby to, while also checking out the atmosphere and menu, I think Notten would work well.

What four friends ordered: coffee and brunch at Notten

Iced Americano and iced latte at Notten

There were four of us that day. Three ordered iced Americanos and one chose an iced latte. You could choose the beans for the coffee, and we all went with the low-acidity option! Turns out we all had the same taste haha.

With a cool drink each in front of us, waiting for the brunch to arrive, it was fun catching up with friends we hadn't seen in a while.

Table at Notten while waiting for brunch

For brunch we ordered the seasonal campagne French toast and the wheat bread plate. Since there were several of us, it was nice being able to share the dishes.

The standout dish: Notten's seasonal campagne French toast

Notten's seasonal campagne French toast

The dish that impressed us most at Notten that day was, without a doubt, the seasonal campagne French toast. Looking at the visual, we all said "it totally looks like a steak!!" at first — a strong first impression. And then when we tasted it, we were like "whoa!!" all over again.

I already like French toast in general, but this one was especially delicious. Being made with campagne (a rustic sourdough-style bread), it had a different feel from regular French toast, and everyone agreed it was tasty as we shared it. If I had to pick just one dish from everything we ate that day, I'd pick this campagne French toast. If you're looking for brunch in Dongpyeon-maeul and can't decide what to order, this is the one I'd personally want to remember.

The wheat bread plate we ordered alongside it also suited us well, since we're all bread lovers.

Bread dishes shared among the group at Notten

Rather than ordering just one dish, laying out several items to share made the meal feel much more abundant with four of us there. We each ordered coffee to our own taste — iced Americano or iced latte — and shared the bread dishes together, which felt easy and unburdensome. If you love coffee and bread, this kind of combination is worth trying. It would also suit anyone searching for café recommendations in Dongpyeon-maeul who wants a place that also serves brunch.

Parking at Notten: two entrances to know about

Notten's inner-alley-facing door and parking area

We visited by car, and parking was available behind the Notten building. Notten has two doors, and you can park in front of the one facing the inner alley. On a first visit, having two entrances can be a little confusing about which way to go, so if you're visiting by car, it helps to know in advance that parking is available in front of the inner-alley-facing door. Parking is often a nagging worry when heading out for brunch, so it was a relief to find this was easy in person.

Hours or operating days can change, so I'd recommend checking before you head out. Above all, the seasonal campagne French toast was so good it's stayed with me. This felt like a place suited for a day when you want to enjoy delicious bread and brunch together rather than just coffee, and take your time about it. If you've been searching for good restaurants and brunch in Dongpyeon-maeul, or looking into cafés in Dongpyeon-maeul, Anyang, give Notten a try. Next time I'm back in Dongpyeon-maeul, I'd love to visit again just for the French toast.
