Where is Jangjakgun Main Branch, the nurungji chicken spot near Dandae-ogeori?

Jangjakgun Main Branch is a nurungji (crispy rice crust) chicken restaurant a 3-minute walk from Dandae-ogeori Station in Seongnam, right across from Save Zone. It's open Mon–Sun from 4:30 PM to 11 PM, and you can park at the public lot in front of the restaurant or use the Save Zone lot across the street (free parking with purchase).

A nurungji chicken restaurant I'd always loved eating at finally opened near my house, so I had to visit!_! It's "Jangjakgun," right across from Save Zone, a spot every Seongnam local knows. It's about a 3-minute walk from Dandae-ogeori on Line 8. This place was already famous as a Dandae-ogeori must-visit — why did I only find out now?! ㅠㅠ

What are the outdoor tables at Jangjakgun like?

Besides indoor tables, Jangjakgun Main Branch has several outdoor tables where draft beer and chicken go down smoothly from summer into fall. Even though we visited on a weekday evening, customers kept streaming in. The outdoor tables were especially popular. We ended up sitting at one too, eating in the cool autumn breeze haha.

The store had real firewood stacked everywhere, and behind it, whole chickens roasting over the flames, letting all the grease drip away.... That's definitely healthier than fried chicken, right?! I felt like I could eat this as a sort of healthy food, getting my protein without feeling guilty. The wood-roasting smell was great, and the chickens were huge.

When is the nurungji chicken ready, and can you reserve?

At Jangjakgun, the Dandae-ogeori favorite, the nurungji chicken is ready at 4:30 PM on weekdays and 4 PM on weekends and holidays. Seats can fill up fast on weekends, so I'd recommend calling ahead to reserve : )

Jangjakgun's menu and the 1+1 discount

Jangjakgun Main Branch gives you ₩2,000 off when you buy a chicken menu item as a 1+1 set. I photographed the whole menu board. I loved that there's a 1+1 option — since we're gluttons, we ordered the 1+1 two-chicken set ^^ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

The most popular items are corn cheese nurungji chicken and half-and-half nurungji chicken (corn cheese + sweet sauce). We went with the half-and-half nurungji chicken and herbal nurungji chicken set!! There are also various sides — rice balls, jjapaguri, chicken feet, bibim noodles, and ramyeon.

When you have a kid, the most important thing when eating out is whether there's something they can eat, and this place was truly a paradise!_! You can bring the kids, feed them well, and the parents can casually enjoy a draft beer at the same time!!!!

The self-serve banchan corner

Inside the restaurant there's a self-refill banchan (side dish) area like this. There's very fresh shredded cabbage, well-fermented yeolmu kimchi, and pickled radish. All three felt fresh, and their crunch paired with the drier breast meat of the chicken made everything taste lighter and less dry. We went back for cabbage and yeolmu kimchi several times.

Why Jangjakgun is a draft beer favourite in Dandae-ogeori

Inside the store there were a bunch of things like draft beer master certificates? Turns out there's a real reason reviews rave about how good the draft beer is here haha. So of course we quickly ordered a draft beer too. Somehow, once you hear it's a draft beer must-visit, you feel like you have to try it.

Can you see this..........? I'd never seen a draft beer with bubbles constantly rising like this before.... Just looking at it makes my mouth water from the carbonation............. Beer lovers out there..... you have to check out this Dandae-ogeori draft beer spot....♥

What we ordered ①: herbal nurungji chicken, 21,000 won

The herbal nurungji chicken is ₩21,000, the most basic combination of roasted chicken and crispy nurungji with a strong herbal aroma.

I ordered this basic menu for my husband, who's dieting, and a staff member came over and pre-cut the chicken breast — can you see how tender the meat looks? haha. It's chicken with a flavor and aroma that genuinely makes you feel healthier! Highly recommend for anyone dieting 👍

There's no grease at all, and the crispy nurungji underneath has sunflower seeds, mixed grains, jujubes, and ginkgo nuts mixed in, with such a lovely herbal smell... And the nurungji is so crispy it's a delicacy on its own, seriously!!!!!!

There are three sauces served alongside — sweet seasoned sauce, seasoned salt, and honey mustard sauce — so it's fun to dip into each one and compare ㅋㅋㅋㅋ. My favorite combo is mustard sauce + yeolmu kimchi + chicken + nurungji.....🩵

What we ordered ②: half-and-half nurungji chicken, 26,000 won

The half-and-half nurungji chicken is ₩26,000 — half sweet corn cheese, half sweet (not spicy) seasoned sauce, a flavor combo that never gets old.

Personally, as someone with a kid's palate, this was the tastiest item for me!!!ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Seasoned sauce and corn cheese never disappoint.... I could see why it's Jangjakgun's best-seller. One half makes your mouth happy with sweet seasoning, and the other half, wrapped with stretchy corn cheese, is the best. My 7-year-old daughter's pick was, of course, the corn cheese haha.

The meat was really tender, the seasoning was delicious, and the corn cheese paired perfectly — this is exactly the flavor I was hoping for. Dandae-ogeori favorite Jangjakgun, confirmed!!

Two chickens for three people — was it enough?

Basically, Jangjakgun's chickens are quite large, and the nurungji layer underneath is thick too, so one chicken was genuinely plenty for two people! Eaten as a full dinner with the nurungji combo, it's more than filling enough as a meal. We got greedy and ordered two chickens for the three of us including our kid, and it ended up being way too much — we nearly burst and had to leave some ㅠㅠ Next time I'll just order one chicken plus a side.....ㅋㅋㅋ

We ate ourselves full with our kid and walked out, and since it wasn't greasy, there was no heaviness or indigestion — it digested comfortably. After eating fried chicken I usually get gassy and bloated, so I hadn't been eating it much lately.

Chicken you can feed your kid without worry, and that sits easy on your stomach. We've saved this as our family's regular spot 🤭 Next time I want to get it to take to a camping trip! For takeout, they said they serve it in a container exactly as it's plated on the stone plate in-store 😆♥️
