In short

Eungbongjip Dasan Station Branch is a frozen samgyeopsal (pork belly) and rare-pork-cut restaurant near Dasan Station in the Dasan new town area of Namyangju, Gyeonggi. On a weekday visit at 5pm, the writer ordered the three rare cuts — seolhasal, deolmisal and ppolhangjeongsal — plus doenjang sulbap, and rated the more than eight side dishes, the steamed egg, and gungchae lettuce stem with wasabi as the highlights. Eungbongjip Dasan Station Branch is worth a trip if you want nutty flash-frozen pork and rare cuts in one meal.

After warming up my body at the Dasan jjimjilbang (sauna), I headed straight across the street to Eungbongjip, a Dasan restaurant. Fair warning: this place is genuinely, genuinely good haha!🤭

If you want really nutty and flavorful frozen samgyeopsal, Eungbongjip is a must-visit Dasan restaurant! The place was clean and the owner was friendly, so it was the perfect spot to fill up after getting all warm and toasty at the jjimjilbang — Eungbongjip Dasan Station Branch.

Beyond samgyeopsal, they also have specialty pork cuts, so it's a restaurant in Dasan New City I'd recommend to anyone who loves pork specialty parts.

All the tables sat four or more, so even just the two of us had plenty of room, and a window seat happened to be open, so we sat there enjoying the cool breeze. We visited on a weekday at 5pm, and within just 30 minutes of sitting down, half the place was already packed with customers — a real Dasan hotspot.

I came planning to order samgyeopsal but suddenly craved the specialty cuts, so I ordered the set of three haha. Also got one doenjang sulbap (soybean paste rice porridge).

For a frozen samgyeopsal place, the side dishes were laid out as generously as a hanjeongsik (Korean set-course) restaurant! Eight-plus side dishes, wrap vegetables, and springy steamed egg — nothing was missing. Eungbongjip, a go-to samgyeopsal spot in Dasan.

The three rare pork cuts: seolhasal, deolmisal and ppolhangjeongsal

The pork specialty cuts came out neatly arranged, piled onto the biggest plate. The specialty-cut trio consists of deolmisal, seolhasal, and ppolhangjeongsal. Eungbongjip, a go-to spot for pork specialty cuts in Dasan.

Specialty pork cuts placed on the grill

Seolhasal: start with the leanest cut

I decided to eat in order from least to most fatty! Seolhasal went on the grill first. By the way, flash-frozen meat is extra good sprinkled with pepper — they neatly peppered one side, and since it was thin, it cooked really fast haha.

Golden-browned seolhasal on the grill

Crispy and golden-browned pork! At first I wondered if flash-frozen was really any different from regular frozen — but is this how flash-freezing makes it so tasty and nutty?! Seriously, one bite in and it was so savory, easily the best pork I've had in my life..👍

Dipped in the signature egg yolk sauce it was clean and light, and with a quick dip in salt the umami came through even richer — genuinely delicious, this Dasan restaurant Eungbongjip! Have Dasan New City residents been hiding this gem all along...?!

Deolmisal (kkodeulsal): the chewiest cut on the grill

Second up, we tried deolmisal! It's also called kkodeulsal, and the texture is really chewy — it's one of my favorite pork specialty cuts haha.

Grilled crispy, one bite in and it's genuinely so chewy you fall in love 😍 Honestly, the deolmisal at this Dasan spot Eungbongjip is the best I've had — chewy as chewy gets, and so nutty nothing else compares.

Best combination: gungchae lettuce stem with wasabi

Egg yolk with green onion strips is tasty, and grilled fragrant minari (water dropwort) with the meat is great too. But my absolute favorite combo is gungchae (a leafy side dish) topped with wasabi! Eungbongjip, a Dasan pork restaurant, has a whole lineup of side dishes, and among them, putting gungchae on top of the meat with a bit of wasabi maximizes the texture and completely cuts through the richness — the ultimate combo 🤭

Doenjang sulbap: the earthenware pot that cuts the richness

The doenjang sulbap arrives nearly overflowing in a stone pot, with a deep, savory smell of house-made doenjang, and suddenly other tables started ordering it one after another haha. One thick spoonful of the doenjang sulbap completely reset my slightly greasy stomach after all that pork — so good!

Ppolhangjeongsal: the last plate of the night

Last up, ppolhangjeongsal! Laid on the grill in turn, given a light sprinkle of pepper, and grilled carefully, it browns up golden in no time. Eungbongjip, a Dasan restaurant for pork specialty cuts.

I ended the meal with my favorite combo — gungchae and wasabi! So chewy and nutty and delicious that I'd strongly recommend eating it this way if you visit this Dasan restaurant, Eungbongjip haha.
