Yongin bar with terrace seats and beef tendon hot pot: Bacha Suji

In short

Bacha Suji Branch is a gastropub on Pungdeokcheon-ro near Suji-gu Office Station in Yongin, Gyeonggi, where blue and purple lighting meets a whiskey bar counter. A family of three took the outdoor terrace seats and shared instant beef brisket seafood tteokjjim (braised rice cakes), beef brisket and beef tendon hot pot, and truffle cream cheese croquettes with Bacha cream draft beer, all three repeating that every dish was good. Bacha Suji is not just a pretty room — the food was satisfying enough to bring the family back.

Main image of Bacha Suji Branch, a bar near Suji-gu Office Station

Today I'm writing about my visit to Bacha Suji Branch near Suji-gu Office Station. I'd been here once before with a friend, and this time I came back for dinner with my family! The vibe was trendy and every single dish was good, so I wanted to introduce it again.

Where is Bacha Suji, and what are its hours?

Bacha Suji Branch is located at 16-6 1F Pungdeokcheon-ro129beon-gil, Suji-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, and is open daily from 17:00 to 01:00 the next day. On Fridays and Saturdays it's open until 02:00.

Bacha Suji Branch is close to Suji-gu Office Station, so it's decent to reach by public transport. It felt like a good place for a casual drink after work, or for meeting friends or a date.

VARCHAR: the bar a developer opened, and what the name means

< Bacha VARCHAR > was reportedly created after a long planning process by an 8-year developer and UX designer whose only joy was drinking after work and company dinners.

Introduction image of the Bacha VARCHAR brand

The name Bacha ('바차') comes from combining VARCHAR, a programming term, with the drinking atmosphere of a 'Bar' and the friendly menu of a pocha (street food tent). The Suji branch is the first Bacha store, open for over 5 years now, and it has since expanded to Pangyo and Munjeong in Seoul — I think there are 5 branches total now!

Maybe because the founder is a former developer, there was something a bit different about the space, starting from the name itself.

Blue and purple lighting: the vibe inside Bacha Suji

The first thing that catches your eye when you walk into Bacha Suji Branch is the lighting. The overall tone is dark, but with blue and purple lighting added, giving it a pretty hip feel.

Dark-toned interior with blue and purple lighting

Graphic posters and artwork hang on the walls, and the tables and chairs are unified in black, so the whole space felt like it was tied together under one concept.

It's a space that photographs well, and it looked like a good spot for a small group to have a deep conversation.

There are also tables outside, so on a nice day like this it seemed great to enjoy the terrace seats! We sat outside 🙂

The whiskey-lined bar counter at Bacha Suji

On one side of Bacha Suji Branch, there's a bar space lined with a variety of whiskeys.

Instead of feeling like a typical bar packed wall-to-wall with tables, the bar counter and table seating together gave it a more stylish atmosphere ✨

Every light fixture and prop seemed placed to match the overall mood, so it was fun just to look around the space.

Ordering by kiosk: three signature dishes we picked

Complimentary pretzel snacks and tissues served at the table

Once you sit down, the staff bring over pretzel snacks and tissues like this. Even this felt stylish.

Just order from the kiosk at each table.

There's a wide variety of dishes ready, so it looked good both for pairing with drinks and for a full dinner visit. On the menu, items are marked BEST and NEW, and the top 4 are the signature dishes! Every dish in the photos looked delicious, and I wanted to try them all...🥹 In the end, we each picked one dish we wanted, for 3 total.

  • ✔️Truffle cream cheese croquettes

Instant beef brisket seafood tteokjjim (braised rice cakes)

This was my husband's pick. With brisket, plenty of seafood, and rice cakes, it was a hearty dish to dig into.

The spicy-sweet sauce, reminiscent of tteokbokki, combined with the savory taste of the brisket, made it a perfect drinking snack. Best pairing with beer ✨ And underneath there were instant ramen noodles, so it was filling too 💙

Beef brisket and beef tendon hot pot

This was my dad's pick. It was packed with brisket, beef tendon, bean sprouts, enoki mushrooms, and tofu.

The beef tendon was really chewy and springy, pairing so well with the tangy sauce. The broth wasn't a typical bone broth either — you could taste the owner's know-how, and it got richer and richer the longer it simmered 💙

Truffle cream cheese croquettes

This was my pick. Crispy on the outside, with potato croquette inside — spread on the truffle-scented cream cheese and it melts away ✨ Great to eat in between bites of the hot pot or tteokjjim.

Bacha cream draft beer

Bacha cream draft beer 🍺 paired perfectly with what we ate today. My dad tried it and said the beer here is good, and that it'd be nice to come back for a second round later! It really was smooth and delicious~~~

At Bacha you can also enjoy highballs, cocktails, and more, not just soju or beer, so I'm planning to come back for cocktails next time!

Was the bar food actually good? 💙

All three of us kept saying "everything here is good" as we ate...!

We really enjoyed finishing everything 🎶 It seemed like a place with a wide range of menu options — good for a light drink or two, or for a hearty dinner-like meal. Next time I visit, I want to try the other dishes we didn't get to this time.

Is Bacha Suji worth it for a family dinner? ✔️

If you're looking for a bar with a bit of a different vibe near Suji-gu Office Station, Bacha Suji Branch is worth checking out. And it's a place I want to revisit.

Thanks to the trendy interior, the atmosphere of the space itself was great, and above all, the food we had that day was better than expected, which was satisfying. If you want a place that's not just pretty but also serves food that's actually good, I recommend Bacha Suji Branch 💙🤍
