Garak-dong beef gopchang still 19,000 won a serving: Jinseong Hanwoo
In short
Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Garak Flagship is a beef gopchang (intestine) grill restaurant near Garak Market Station in Songpa, Seoul, serving hanwoo gopchang, daechang and makchang at 19,000 won per serving. On a return visit after a long gap, the price was unchanged, a minari (water dropwort) pickled garlic sauce had been added, and the steamed egg cost nothing extra even when re-ordered. For gopchang that is good value in Garak-dong, Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Garak Flagship is the answer.

It's been a while, but I'm back with a Garak-dong restaurant post!

The Garak-dong spot I'm writing about this time is Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Garak Flagship, already famous as a local favorite in Songpa!

How much is gopchang at Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Garak Flagship? Still 19,000 won
Back when I was really into beef gopchang, I kept coming back — but I hadn't visited in a while, so I was surprised to see there was almost no change in price. These days other gopchang places charge well over 20,000 won per serving, but Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang still has gopchang and daechang at 19,000 won!
The origin labeling was also trustworthy to see — not only are gopchang, daechang and makchang all hanwoo (Korean beef), but the rice, kimchi and chili powder are all domestic too, which put my mind at ease.

What's new: minari pickled garlic sauce, and extra steamed egg at no charge
The price has stayed the same, keeping the great value going, but what's different from my earlier visits is this minari pickled garlic sauce! Compared to the usual pickled onion sauce most gopchang places serve, the addition of fragrant minari (water dropwort) and minced garlic really lifts the sauce's flavor.
The default pickled chives and steamed egg were also really good. We finished off the steamed egg before the gopchang even arrived and asked for a refill — no extra charge!

What comes with two servings of beef gopchang
The beef gopchang for two finally arrived!

Daechang and makchang are delicious too, but our favorite is gopchang, so we ordered only that this time.

Along with the plump, long gopchang, the standard sides make for a pretty substantial spread. Potato, rice cake, pickled chives, bean sprouts, cabbage and kimchi all come along with it.

This would be so good with a cold somaek (soju-beer mix) — which I can't have right now due to pregnancy (..)!

Staff set up the grill when the timer goes off
After a short wait, the gopchang starts sizzling nicely. When the timer they bring with the gopchang goes off, a staff member comes and sets everything up nicely for eating — you just wait.

While the gopchang is being prepped, it's a good time to try the default 3-kimchi set. Chonggak kimchi, green onion kimchi and mustard leaf kimchi were all delicious. The green onion kimchi is even better grilled on the pan alongside the gopchang!

The staff member cuts the beef gopchang for you~ Seeing the intestines packed full of gop (fat/marrow) as it's cut makes your mouth water instantly. Trimmed into perfect bite-sized pieces! Now it's just time to eat.

Pickled garlic sauce with grilled green onion kimchi
While waiting for the gopchang, I'd already been picking out the minari from the pickled garlic sauce — dipping the gopchang thoroughly into it felt like heaven. Beyond the sauce, pairing it with the grilled pickled chives and various vegetables let me enjoy a whole range of flavors, which I loved.

Eating it with the chili from the pickled sauce sends a spicy kick spreading through your mouth that pairs so well with the savory gopchang. See in the middle photo how packed with gop it is? It's also a real delicacy eaten with the grilled green onion kimchi mentioned above! I really recommend grilling it well and eating it together.

And grilling the napa cabbage kimchi is really delicious too. You all know a place with great kimchi is truly a great restaurant, right?

Finishing with kkakdugi fried rice
After filling up on savory gopchang, you have to finish with kkakdugi (radish kimchi) fried rice to call the meal truly complete!

Breaking the mouthwatering soft-fried egg and mixing it thoroughly into the fried rice with seasoned laver flakes, kkakdugi and radish salad makes for something really delicious. The bits of teuk-yang (extra tripe) mixed into the rice are also a treat, and every kind of radish kimchi at this place is delicious. The radish salad and kkakdugi were totally my style too!
Even better than when I visited before, Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Garak Flagship delivers upgraded flavor and value in one Garak-dong beef gopchang restaurant. If you're looking for a great gopchang spot in Garak-dong, I hope you'll stop by for a delicious meal!
