Munjeong Station poke: buldak salmon vs raw salmon sauces, Olla Poke

In short

Olla Poke Munjeong Main Branch is a poke restaurant on the basement level of Terra Tower A, about 195m from Munjeong Station Exit 3 in Songpa, Seoul. Two of us ordered the raw salmon poke at 13,500 won and the new buldak (fire chicken) salmon poke at 14,000 won, both with avocado added and pickles and corn left out, to compare the sriracha mayo against the buldak main sauce. Both bowls cleared 30g of protein on a 5:5 base, so Olla Poke Munjeong felt far more filling than a bowl of salad.

An honest review of Olla Poke Munjeong Main Branch

I was looking into salad spots near Munjeong Station and Olla Poke caught my eye — more filling than just a salad. When I heard they had a new menu item, I went with my mom while we were already at Munjeong Station. Honestly, before going I assumed it would just be a salad with lots of veggies and a bit of salmon on top, but after eating it my mind completely changed haha. The avocado especially — I still think about it.

Mini kiosk order screen at Olla Poke Munjeong Main Branch

Ordering at the mini kiosk: salad and oat brown rice base at 5:5

We grabbed a seat first, picked our menu, then ordered. You order through a mini kiosk, and we went with the raw salmon poke and fire-chicken salmon poke. My mom and I both skipped the pickles and corn and added avocado.

My mom and I have similar tastes on this haha. The base is salad and oat brown rice by default, and you can also get buckwheat noodles. You can adjust the ratio to 3:7 or 5:5 — we went with the default base of salad and oat brown rice at 5:5. The menu board lists recommended sauces for each dish, so we went with the recommendations.

Buldak salmon poke vs raw salmon poke: what's the difference?

Two bowls of raw salmon poke and fire-chicken salmon poke

My mom's raw salmon poke was ₩13,500, and my fire-chicken salmon poke was ₩14,000 — the new menu item haha. What struck me most eating it was the main sauce. Both dishes include raw salmon, but there are some differences in composition and nutrition. Both come with a base sauce (a choice between sesame soy or yuzu soy), but the main sauce differs. Both use raw salmon, the basic toppings look pretty similar, and the calories are similar too.

Raw salmon poke topped with sriracha mayo sauce

The sriracha mayo sauce on the raw salmon poke wasn't so much sriracha-flavored as it was a non-greasy mayo sauce! Nutty and smooth, no heaviness at all.

Fire-chicken salmon poke drizzled with fire-chicken sauce

The fire-chicken sauce on the fire-chicken salmon poke was milder than the fire-chicken sauce we know, but still spicy enough that you need to pour it on little by little. I ate the main toppings — raw salmon and avocado — first, then mixed in the fire-chicken sauce bit by bit afterward haha.

Raw salmon with no fishy taste and a thick, meaty bite

Thick-cut raw salmon topping at Olla Poke

I'm sensitive to fishy taste, so I can tell right away if the salmon isn't fresh, but Olla Poke's raw salmon was genuinely delicious. Thick-cut and firm, with a great chewy texture. There was a sign in the store saying they receive salmon fresh every morning, and eating it, I could really tell they put a lot of care into it.

Is the 3,500 won avocado add-on worth it at Olla Poke?

Avocado topping added for ₩3,500

The salmon was delicious, but what stuck with me most was the avocado. I love avocado so much I make smoothies with frozen avocado at home, but this was on a whole different level.

Close-up of ripened avocado slices

It was ripened perfectly — no hard spots, no mushy spots — and it was so smooth and nutty it might be one of the best avocados I've ever had haha. The extra cost might make you hesitate, but if you like avocado, definitely add it. I'm definitely adding it again next time!

Fresh vegetables and perfectly cooked beans in both bowls

Poke vegetables mixed with lentils and chickpeas

Even the standard ingredients were really fresh, and the lentils and chickpeas were cooked really well. Not hard, not mushy — cooked with real skill it felt like. The vegetables didn't have a single wilted leaf, all fresh and alive haha.

Salad and oat brown rice served at a 5:5 ratio

Even the oat brown rice was delicious. At poke restaurants, the grain rice can sometimes be too mushy or too dry and end up separate from the salad, but here it was sticky without being gluey, and chewy and nutty when you bit into it.

Calories and protein in each Olla Poke bowl

For anyone tracking their diet, there's a calorie and nutrition chart too. These figures are for a full bowl with the main, standard toppings, recommended sauce, and base at 5:5.

  • Chicken Breast Poke 490kcal / 36.5g
  • Fried Tofu Poke 526kcal / 15.5g
  • Garlic Shrimp Poke 552kcal / 31.5g
  • Smoked Duck Poke 592kcal / 28.6g
  • Seafood Poke 605kcal / 43.2g
  • Vegan Avocado Poke 612kcal / 20.4g
  • Fire-Chicken Octopus Poke 626kcal / 30.0g
  • Fire-Chicken Salmon Poke 648kcal / 40.0g
  • Raw Salmon Poke 665kcal / 33.6g
  • Original Tuna Poke 681kcal / 43.2g
  • Beef Skirt Steak Poke 732kcal / 30.0g
  • Super Protein Poke 740kcal / 50.7g

Switching the base to salad only cuts 80kcal. Going with oat brown rice only adds 80kcal.

We added avocado, so what we actually ate was higher than the listed numbers, but it's healthy, good food, so we didn't worry about the calories.

Portable mouthwash and phone stand at the self-serve bar

They even have portable mouthwash for after your meal. Seems useful for office workers who have plans right after lunch. There was also a phone stand, which looked handy for eating solo.

Why Olla Poke near Munjeong Station beats a salad for lunch

A bowl of salmon poke with over 30g of protein

I went in expecting just a bowl of salad, and eating it changed my mind. Looking at the nutrition chart, the protein content isn't what you'd expect from a salad meal. Add the base at 5:5, and both dishes we ordered came to over 30g of protein.

That's a number that's hard to get from a plain bowl of salad. I think that's why people who come here looking for a salad near Munjeong Station end up saying it's filling.

Empty poke bowls left on the table

If I had to name a drawback, it's that they're closed on weekends, and there's a break time from 3pm to 5pm, so you have to time your visit.
