Mullae monjayaki restaurant for cheesy nurungji and day drinking: Jojo

In short

Jojo Mullae Branch is a Japanese monjayaki and teppan restaurant in the Mullae Art Village alleys of Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, a five-minute walk from Mullae Station Exit 1. The monjayaki 2-person set (mentaiko monjayaki, karai yakisoba and waterfall potato) costs under 40,000 won, and a staff member spreads the mentaiko monjayaki on the tabletop teppan, then presses it with mozzarella until it crisps like nurungji (crispy scorched rice). Jojo Mullae Branch works well as a relaxed Mullae date course with a drink in the middle of the day.

Mullae Changjak-chon is so hot right now! Wandering the alleys is fun on its own, but there are so many cafés and good restaurants too, making it a great date course. I was hunting for somewhere to have a casual daytime drink and found Jojo Mullae Branch, a Japanese monjayaki spot — and true to its buzzy reputation, the taste and the vibe were both super satisfying. A proper Mullae-dong restaurant date.

Jojo Mullae Branch is a 5-minute walk from Exit 1 of Mullae Station. Head past Mullae Neighborhood Park, and it's just beyond the Mullae Park intersection.

The red brick exterior really stood out! Simple but with a vintage feel — it matched the mood of the Mullae alleys perfectly.

They're open daily 11:30–22:00, with a break time from 15:30–17:00. You could check the menu from outside, and the signature mentaiko monjayaki and squid-ink monjayaki seemed to be the famous items. Beyond monjayaki, there was a wide range of teppan dishes like yakisoba, fried rice, and okonomiyaki — making it just right for a drink in Mullae.

What the inside of Jojo Mullae Branch feels like

Inside, Jojo Mullae Branch had clean wood tones and warm lighting, making it a really nice atmosphere for a meal, and with a teppan grill at every table, we could eat warm teppanyaki fresh off the grill right away.

Jojo Mullae Branch menu: what comes in each set

The menu at this Mullae-dong restaurant! There's mentaiko and squid-ink monjayaki, and four kinds of yakisoba — jojo, karai, shio, and basic. There were also plenty of side dishes like donpeyaki, waterfall potato, and gyoza, making it just right for a simple lunchtime drink at Jojo Mullae Branch.

There were discounted set menus too — four total: Signature 2-person, Signature 3-person, Monjayaki 2-person, and Rice 2-person sets. The Signature set is okonomiyaki + karai yakisoba + donpeyaki, and the Monjayaki set is mentaiko monjayaki + karai yakisoba + waterfall potato — both compositions were great, and at under ₩40,000, the value was really good.

This time we ordered the Monjayaki 2-person set! You could freely add toppings to the monjayaki, and swap out the yakisoba too.

Mentaiko and mozzarella cheese ingredients for monjayaki

Mentaiko monjayaki spread on the teppan by staff

At Jojo Mullae Branch, once you order, the monjayaki comes out ready to go right away — a big chunk of mentaiko and a whole pile of mozzarella cheese! They pour plenty of oil on the grill and spread the monjayaki out wide.

At first you wonder if this visual is even right, but that's just... the taste of monjayaki!

They finely chop the vegetables first, then pour the runny batter into the middle and spread the monjayaki wide — the thinner it is, the tastier, apparently, and they worked hard spreading it out. The staff made it so well that we could eat comfortably and have fun with it.

At the end, they spread mozzarella cheese wide, and after a 5-minute timer, you're free to dig in — pressing it down even more so it sticks and gets crispy like nurungji made it so, so good, ugh.

Waterfall potato and karai yakisoba at Jojo Mullae Branch

The waterfall potato has egg on top and mashed potato underneath — the visual gives you an intuitive sense of the 'waterfall.' I pressed down from the top and mixed it up like an egg salad, and got the crunchy texture underneath and the soft potato texture all at once — really delicious.

The karai yakisoba's spicy kick was the perfect counterbalance to the richness of the monjayaki! Jojo's special sauce adds a sharp, spicy savoriness, and mixing the plump noodles with a burst egg yolk gave the perfect balance of heat and nuttiness.

Why Jojo Mullae Branch suits a Mullae date course

A Mullae teppan restaurant with a cozy, warm feel like a Japanese izakaya, and delicious monjayaki on top! The menu lineup is great and it's perfect for a simple lunchtime drink, so I'd recommend it as a Mullae-dong restaurant date course!
