Yunsik's training ran late into the evening, and with everyone's stomachs growling, we thought about somewhere comfortable the whole family could sit down and eat. We ended up walking over with the kids to Haengbokhan Udon Gage Seokchon Lake Branch near Seokchon Gobun Station, which has parking nearby. Right by the Seokchon Lake walking path — a lovely spot for an evening stroll in the cool night breeze — this well-known local spot for a steaming bowl of deep, rich udon (thick wheat noodle soup) welcomed us with warm lights even at that late hour, just as the neighborhood regulars know it will.

What is the terrace at Haengbokhan Udon Gage like on an autumn night?

Haengbokhan Udon Gage Seokchon Lake Branch is a 24-hour udon and pork cutlet restaurant near Seokchon Gobun Station, and out front there's a terrace set up with outdoor tables and chairs. Arriving at the storefront, we found the terrace laid out perfectly for these recently cooled autumn nights, giving off a distinctly romantic feeling, like we'd taken a little trip out to the countryside.

What I especially loved was that since this place is open 24 hours, we could stop by anytime — even though Yunsik's training ran a bit late, we weren't rushed by any closing time and could relax and unwind. Stepping inside, the warm wood-tone interior and cozy lighting gave off a comfortable feeling.

What we ordered: cheese pork cutlet, old-style pork cutlet and fish cake udon

Soon our table filled up with the old-style pork cutlet and cheese pork cutlet we'd ordered, plus udon dishes piled high with fish cake and vegetables. The cheese pork cutlet, packed with savory mozzarella inside thick meat, won the kids over instantly the moment they bit in and the cheese stretched into long strings,

and the old-style pork cutlet, with its crispy batter and rich sauce, was excellent too — light yet perfectly crunchy. The kids loved the crisp crackling sound as it was sliced.

Stirring in the spicy sauce and taking a sip of the broth, then slurping up the chewy noodles topped with fragrant crown daisy and fried tofu, I felt the fatigue just melt away. Tasting it firsthand, I finally understood why people from the Seokchon Lake walking path and Seokchon Gobun Station area keep coming back here whenever hunger strikes late at night — the charm of Haengbokhan Udon Gage Seokchon Lake Branch really clicked.
