As the weather turned cooler, I found myself thinking about Useum Pangyo's excellent hot pots again, so I went back for another visit. The interior is spacious and clean, and every time I come the staff are so kind — it always puts me in a good mood!
Since it's open every day of the year, it's even open on Chuseok (Korean thanksgiving)!!! Lots of families eat out during the Chuseok holiday, so this makes a great spot for a family gathering. Enjoy the warm gomtang and hot pots that the older generation tends to love. They also provide kids' tableware and disposable bibs, so it's a comfortable place to visit with a child.

What's on the menu at Useum Pangyo Branch?

There's a really wide variety of dishes — eobokjaengban (mixed hot pot platter), doganitangi/beef bulgogi hot pot, Korean beef suyuk (boiled sliced beef), gomtang (beef bone soup), spicy chive jeon, kimchi jeon, crispy cheese potato jeon, yukhoe (beef tartare), and more :) They even have special desserts like frozen persimmon, and nurungji (scorched rice) with Häagen-Dazs.
Back at Useum Pangyo Branch for another family meal

Useum is a favorite for our whole family! Today, we were still deliberating over the menu right up until we arrived.

The space has a stylish, warm atmosphere. There are plenty of tables and it can hold a lot of people. There's also a separate private room, so if you're coming with a large group for a family gathering or company dinner, I'd recommend booking ahead.

We'd already tried the doganitangi hot pot and the nurungji with Häagen-Dazs last time, so this time we picked dishes we hadn't tried yet. We ordered Korean beef suyuk, crispy cheese potato jeon, and Jipyeong makgeolli. If it's your first visit, or the weather's cold and you're craving something warm, I'd recommend the hot pots!!! The nurungji with Häagen-Dazs was also so good and generously portioned, so I highly recommend it for dessert. The combination of sweet, crunchy nurungji with vanilla Häagen-Dazs is a familiar flavor, but it was still so delicious.

While waiting for the food, we poured ourselves a glass of Jipyeong makgeolli each :) Every single side dish was to our liking too. This place really knows its kimchi and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi)!!!

The side dishes and table setting came out quickly. They told us to mix perilla powder into the chogochujang (vinegared chili paste) — oh, I never would have thought of that combination, but it went so well together :)
Why Useum Pangyo Branch is easy to visit with a child
Useum Pangyo Branch provides disposable bibs and toddler bowls and tableware. It's a restaurant that's genuinely easy to visit with a child :)

Dishes came out one by one as we waited. Wow, just look at the presentation!!! The table filled up with food.
Korean beef suyuk, best wrapped in minari

The suyuk platter looked hot, so careful, careful!!! The suyuk came topped with a handful of blanched minari (water dropwort) and enoki mushrooms. And the meat — what happened here!!! So moist and tender. Wrapped up in minari, the soft texture paired with the minari's sharp bite was just wonderful. Dipping it in each of the three sauces let us enjoy a range of flavors too. The kimchi served alongside was also so good — I don't usually eat much kimchi at restaurants, but I really went for it that day.
Crispy cheese potato jeon, the dish our child ate most

Next up, the crispy cheese potato jeon (pan-fried potato pancake) that our kid ate up so well!!! The potato is sliced thin and long before being pan-fried, so it almost has the feel of fries. With the cheese added, the potato strands stuck together nicely without falling apart, giving it a savory, crispy bite. It's a mild flavor, so it was easy to share with our child, and the meat and the jeon were both tender, so even our kid, who hates anything chewy, gobbled it right up.

A toast for the two of us, worn out from juggling parenting and work — it's been a while :) The suyuk and makgeolli combo really works! And with the crispy cheese potato jeon added in, it was the icing on the cake.

If you've lost your appetite lately, stop by Useum and get it back :) Every dish was clean, fresh, and full of character, making it a great place to whet your appetite.
