Inside Samiri Makguksu: kiosk ordering and seating

Walking in, it had a neat, tidy Korean restaurant vibe with well-arranged tables. It's a self-made-noodle shop, which made me curious why it's often mentioned as one of the good Korean restaurants near Migeum Station.

What we ordered at Samiri Makguksu and what it cost

A meal spread of dduk mandu-guk, bibim makguksu, and dumplings
  • Dduk mandu-guk: ₩13,000
  • Bibim makguksu: ₩12,000
  • Dumplings (2 pieces): ₩4,000
  • Total paid: ₩29,000

With one noodle dish, one soup, and dumplings added on top for the two of us, it turned out to be just the right spread.

Bibim makguksu, 12,000 won: mild sauce and noodles that stay firm

The bibim makguksu at Samiri Makguksu Migeum Branch came piled high with cucumber, seasoned radish, and sesame seeds — it was mouthwatering just to look at.

They said the sauce is made by blending in fruit and grinding their own chili flakes, and maybe that's why the flavor came out mild.

What surprised me most were the noodles. They were chewy yet stayed springy all the way through without going mushy.

It wasn't spicy at all, so it would be an easy option for anyone who can't handle spicy food well, or for eating together with a kid.

What to do with the cold broth served alongside

When you order bibim makguksu, a cold broth comes on the side — try pouring a little of it into the noodles and mixing it in.

The seasoning soaks evenly into the noodles, bringing out the umami flavor and making it much easier to mix smoothly.

Tteok-manduguk, 13,000 won: a mild soup to share with a child

Craving something hot, we also ordered dduk mandu-guk, which I heard is one of the most sought-after menu items at this restaurant.

Alternating between the cold bibim makguksu and the warm soup, the pairing of cold and hot worked really well together.

The soup was really tasty. Every spoonful felt like it warmed me up inside.

The broth was mild, so it was an easy dish to share with my kid without any worries.

The rice cakes were cooked just right — not too soft, not too hard — so they stayed chewy. Having soaked up the broth, each bite had a subtle depth of flavor.

The dumplings in the soup were also generously filled and delicious, so the bowl emptied quickly. If you're looking for a warm soup dish among the Korean restaurants near Migeum Station, I'd recommend the dduk mandu-guk first.

Dumplings, 4,000 won for two: crisp outside, juicy inside

The dumplings we ordered separately came as 2 pieces, making them a light addition alongside the noodle dish.

The outside was crispy, making a satisfying sound with every bite.

The inside was moist and packed full, contrasting nicely with the crispy exterior. Pairing a bite of dumpling with a bite of bibim makguksu creates a whole other combination.

The best way to eat makguksu and dumpling soup together

A bite of bibim makguksu, a spoonful of dduk mandu-guk broth, then a bite of dumpling — this order worked best for me.

If you have a bigger appetite, you can add ₩4,000 for a large portion of makguksu.

I'm already looking forward to trying the potato pancake or perilla oil makguksu next time.

Good to know: waiting, parking and takeout

If there's a wait, you can write your name on the list at the entrance and they'll seat you in order.

Mustard and vinegar are set out on the table so you can adjust the flavor of the bibim makguksu to your taste.

If you're driving, they said parking support is available, so it's worth mentioning it when you pay.

Takeout is also available, so it seemed like a good option to pre-order and pick up on a day you're craving makguksu at home.
