Sunset café in Uijeongbu with apple chamomile and lemongrass: Forerest
In short
Forerest is a large, forest-feel café with an outdoor lawn and terrace in Nogyang-dong, Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi. On a late weekday afternoon a party of three — the writer, her mother and her child — took a window-view seat at Forerest and ordered a decaf americano, apple chamomile and lemongrass teas, plus original and chocolate Basque cheesecakes. The original Basque melted more softly than the chocolate, and the sunset light was lovely, though you should come prepared for mosquitoes.

What kind of café is Forerest in Nogyang-dong, Uijeongbu?
Forerest, located in Nogyang-dong, Uijeongbu, is a warm forest-vibe café that feels like a cabin tucked in nature. With a lush outdoor lawn and terrace spreading out front, it's a great spot to relax comfortably with kids or pets.

Grateful these days to be able to enjoy this kind of leisure on a weekday — after eating at a budae-jjigae (army stew) place in Uijeongbu with mom and Banggeul, it felt like a waste to just head straight home.
I've already been here several times, but the mood changes so much depending on the season, and weekday versus weekend is a completely different vibe too. Coming late afternoon on a weekday, it was pure silence, haha.

Window-view seats and the wood-tone interior at Forerest
Inside Forerest, wood-tone interiors blend with the scenery beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows for a cozy, calm mood 🤎

The moment mom walked in, she fell for the window-view seat and headed straight for it.
Banggeul wanted to sit in a different room, but a couple had already taken that spot. The window seat looked like a painting — so pretty, perfect for zoning out and just healing, sniff.

What we ordered at Forerest
The house-made, thick Basque cheesecake and fragrant coffee are Forerest's signature popular menu items. Since we're sensitive to caffeine, we ordered decaf americano and tea, and since there were three of us we got two cheesecakes — our usual original, plus a chocolate one we'd been curious about.

Forerest's decaf americano had a noticeable acidity
A day where the greenery and sunlit scenery looked gorgeous from any angle. The regular coffee I'd had before wasn't strongly acidic, but this decaf had quite a bit of acidity, which was a little disappointing, sniff. My unrefined palate just doesn't love acidic coffee.

Apple chamomile vs lemongrass: which tea won?
Apple chamomile vs lemongrass — mom and Banggeul each insisted their own tea was way better, haha. They swapped sips to try each other's, and then both said theirs was clearly better, which makes no sense, lol.
Original vs chocolate Basque cheesecake at Forerest
As expected, the original cheesecake won. Banggeul, not a fan of the chocolate one, asked why I didn't just order two regular ones instead of chocolate, and mom asked why I didn't pick green tea or black sesame flavor instead, ugh.

Fine, I'll just eat the chocolate one myself then! Lol, and I basically did end up eating almost all of it — it was tasty! But the original does melt more smoothly.

Chestnut trees by the window and sunset on the Forerest lawn
The four trees right in front of where we sat were all chestnut trees, and a few older ladies were busy picking up fallen chestnuts. Is it okay to take those? Banggeul wanted to collect some too and happily grabbed two on the way out, though I have a feeling we weren't actually supposed to...

Quiet, sunset light that wasn't too harsh, and a nice cool breeze — it was so, so good. Would've been perfect if not for the mosquitoes! I was the only one who got bitten twice, sigh.

The sunlight on our faces was so pretty. Going to make more memories here often before winter arrives. If you're in Uijeongbu and haven't been to Forerest, this large café is worth a visit.
