Uijeongbu BBQ with a playroom: ₩57,000 half-pig and beef tartare set

In short

Hanmaeum Butcher Restaurant Uijeongbu Gosan District Branch is a dry-aged Korean BBQ restaurant with a kids' playroom, on the 3rd floor of a building on Seseok-ro in the Gosan district of Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi. With her child in the spacious playroom, which has a slide and CCTV, the writer grilled five pork cuts — samgyeopsal (pork belly), ogyeopsal (skin-on belly), pork neck, pork jowl and gabrisal — from the half-pig plus Korean beef tartare set at ₩57,000, and the free sides of doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), mukbap (acorn jelly in broth) and pickled chilli peppers stood out as much as the meat. Hanmaeum Butcher Restaurant works equally well for a family meal with young kids and for a group gathering.

Hanmaeum Butcher Restaurant Uijeongbu Gosan District Branch main image

When I eat out with my kid, taste matters but these days the first thing I check is whether there's a playroom haha. I feel like I've been to almost every playroom restaurant in Uijeongbu with my kid, and this time I went to Hanmaeum Butcher Restaurant Uijeongbu Gosan District Branch (한마음정육식당 의정부고산지구점) in Gosan-dong.

A BBQ restaurant with a playroom seemed promising for a trip with my kid, and once I got there, the playroom was actually bigger and more pleasant than I expected. On top of that, everything from the meat to the free doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and mukbap (acorn jelly noodles) was tasty overall, so I wanted to recommend it to anyone looking for a good Uijeongbu restaurant to visit with kids.

It seemed especially good for families with young kids eating out together or for get-togethers with friends, so let me walk through everything from the playroom to the menu items we tried.

Parking and the dining room at Hanmaeum Butcher Restaurant

When you're eating out with a kid, if parking is already a struggle you're exhausted before you even get inside. Here you can use the building's parking lot, which made it easy to visit by car.

The restaurant is on the 3rd floor of the building, and from the entrance you could immediately tell it's a place with a playroom. Once inside, the interior was bigger than I expected and the tables were spaced out well without feeling cramped.

Besides regular tables, there were separate private rooms where a larger group could eat together, which seemed good for family gatherings or group get-togethers wanting a bit more privacy. Families who came with kids, like us, could also eat comfortably in this atmosphere. Also, the group room had air conditioning installed. Grilling meat with the door closed can get hot, so that showed some real thoughtfulness from the owner.

The kids' playroom with a slide and CCTV

And what I liked most was, of course, the playroom haha. Inside the restaurant there's a spacious playroom where kids can play, and my kid went straight for it the moment we walked in.

There was a slide and several other play features, and seeing it in person, it was bigger and more pleasant than I'd expected.

There was also CCTV so you can check inside the playroom, so the kid can have fun playing while the parents get to eat a bit more at ease — I guess that's why people look for playroom restaurants haha.

High chairs were available too, which made it easy to visit with a young child. And next to the high chairs there was even a separate parking spot for strollers and kick scooters haha.

There was also a seating area on one side where kids could sit and wait. As a place that gets a lot of customers with children, it felt like they'd thought through even these small details. Best of all, there was one table right in front of the playroom entrance — literally right next to it — and I really wanted that seat haha. Next time I go with my kid, that's the table I'm aiming for.

You order using the tablet at the table, and there was a surprisingly wide range of options, from meat to sides to kids' menu items. When I visited, a set menu discount was running.

The menu ranged from pork to beef to beef tartare, and there were combos where you could try several cuts at once.

How Hanmaeum Butcher Restaurant ages its meat

While waiting after ordering, I looked around and noticed a separate aging chamber for the meat on one side of the restaurant. Seeing the 2℃ low-temperature aging method with a certificate hanging next to it, the owner seemed pretty serious about aging meat haha. Seeing the chamber packed full of meat made me even more excited about what we'd ordered.

Five cuts in one order: the aged half-pig platter

We ordered the aged pork half so we could try several cuts at once.

A plate with five cuts of aged pork half

It's a combo where you can taste five cuts together: samgyeopsal, ogyeopsal, pork neck, pork jowl (hangjeongsal), and gabrisal. It was nice being able to grill and try a bit of everything instead of eating just one cut the whole time.

Several fully grilled cuts of pork

The meat looked clean, and grilling it golden brown on the pan just confirmed — meat is meat haha. Of the five cuts, the pork jowl and gabrisal were my favorites. They were chewy yet savory, with a distinctive texture that held up the more you chewed, so I kept reaching for the pork jowl. I came here for the playroom, but with meat this good, it was satisfying as a Uijeongbu BBQ spot too.

The free side dishes that matched the pork

But what surprisingly stuck with me here were the free side dishes.

My kid usually doesn't eat much meat, so I ordered the seaweed soup separately for her — but she ended up eating even more meat than usual haha. Seeing her eat well made me so happy, and it reminded me again why playroom restaurants and kids' zones matter.

Finely chopped stuffed hot pepper pickles

Also, even with delicious meat, things can get a little greasy after a while, but the finely chopped stuffed hot pepper pickles were seriously amazing — the real MVP. I almost asked for the recipe haha.

Eaten with a bite of meat, the spicy-tangy-salty flavor cut right through the greasiness, so I kept eating them together.

And the free mukbap (acorn jelly noodles) was pure refreshment haha. After eating meat, one bite of it cleared my palate completely — it felt like a hangover cure even though I hadn't had a drink. It tasted like something that would make soju go down easily, but that day I was drinking water,,^^ It paired so well with the meat that I kept going back for more.

Is the complimentary doenjang jjigae really that good?

And what I really loved was the doenjang jjigae! Even though it's just the free stew that comes with the meal, I was like, this is what comes free?? haha

Honestly I didn't expect much from a free doenjang jjigae at a BBQ restaurant. But the seasoning was neither too strong nor too bland, just right, and there was plenty of tofu in it, so it went really well with rice. It didn't feel like a throwaway side dish — it was good enough to eat on its own.

Looking at the menu, there was also a 'dad's doenjang rice' with woo samgyeop and doenjang jjigae together, and I thought, if the free version is this good, how good must that be haha. I was already too full to try it, unfortunately... I'll definitely get it next time.

Korean beef tartare served with the egg yolk on the side

The set also included beef tartare with the pork half, and what I personally liked was that the egg yolk came served separately!

Some people like mixing the yolk into the beef tartare and some don't. Since it's not already mixed in, you can add it based on your own preference, which was a nice touch. The beef tartare itself came with pear and sprouts, adding a crisp texture that made it even more enjoyable.

The self-serve bar and the small touches at each table

There was a separate self-serve bar for the side dishes, so if you ran out, you could easily grab more.

And here's a small detail I actually liked — near the seats, there were disposable aprons and plastic bags to store your clothes.

At a BBQ restaurant you always worry a bit about smoke smell getting into your clothes, but being able to put your outerwear or bag into a bag right there eased that concern, and it was convenient not having to go far when you needed one.

Also, looking closely at the hood above the grill, it had everything written on it at once — business hours, the Wi-Fi password, SNS event info, and whether phone charging was available. Since it's naturally somewhere your eyes land while eating, you could check it right away without having to ask staff or search for it. It might seem like a small thing, but gathering info customers would want in one visible spot was a nice touch.

Is Hanmaeum Butcher Restaurant right for family meals and group dinners?

Having been there myself, Hanmaeum Butcher Restaurant Uijeongbu Gosan District Branch felt less like a place to go just for the meat and more like a BBQ restaurant that's genuinely comfortable to eat out at with kids. Parking is easy, the restaurant is spacious, and with the playroom, it's great for families with young kids to gather — good for family meals as well as work dinners or group get-togethers.

I was especially satisfied with the combo of pork jowl + doenjang jjigae + mukbap + stuffed hot pepper pickles haha. If you're looking for a playroom restaurant in Uijeongbu, this seems like a place you could go with your kid without much stress, and next time I'd like to go back and grab that seat right in front of the playroom haha. The staff and owner were kind too, so I left in a good mood — this was Hanmaeum Butcher Restaurant Uijeongbu Gosan District Branch, a great restaurant in Gosan-dong, Uijeongbu.
