Bundang lunch of juicy gyoza dumplings and dakgaejang: Gangnam Gyoja

In short

Gangnam Gyoja Bundang Seohyeon Branch is a Korean restaurant near Seohyeon Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi, serving kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), dakgaejang (spicy chicken soup) and gyoza dumplings. Ordering all three on a cold, soup-craving day filled the table: kalguksu with plenty of meat topping, a spicy dakgaejang, and gyoza dumplings that burst with juice in one bite. Gangnam Gyoja is easy for solo diners and works just as well for a group sharing several dishes.

Inside Gangnam Gyoja Bundang Seohyeon Branch: is it comfortable for solo diners?

The inside of Gangnam Gyoja Bundang Seohyeon Branch is mostly made up of 4-person tables, but there were solo diners too, so the vibe felt comfortable enough for eating alone!

What I especially liked was being able to scoop rice comfortably haha. You know how much better it is to pour rice into kalguksu broth, right? There's a review event going on too, so don't forget to check it out!

What we ordered at Gangnam Gyoja: kalguksu, gyoza dumplings and dakgaejang

When you think of Gangnam Gyoja, kalguksu and dumplings come to mind first.

This time I wanted to try a bit more variety, so I ordered kalguksu, gyoza dumplings, and dakgaejang haha. Seeing all three menus laid out together, the table ended up looking pretty generous.

The kimchi that comes as a standard side dish

The bright red kimchi served as a standard side

Kimchi really matters at a kalguksu place, right? That bright red color makes your mouth water, doesn't it haha. It had a spicy, cool, refreshing taste, so a bite of kalguksu followed by a bite of kimchi cleaned up the palate nicely — they went so well together. Kalguksu and kimchi is a combo that's hard to get wrong^^

Kalguksu: mild broth with generous meat topping

I started with the kalguksu. The broth was rich but not heavy, making it just right for a warm, comforting bowl.

Noodles and dumplings lifted from the kalguksu bowl

The noodles went well with the broth, and having both meat and dumplings in the bowl made it more filling than I expected. Especially after finishing the warm broth, my stomach felt really settled.

The meat topping was also more generous than I thought, so if you're looking for a simple lunch spot near Seohyeon Station, a bowl of kalguksu alone could fill you up nicely!

Dakgaejang: spicy chicken soup, hearty and filling

A bowl of spicy dakgaejang broth

Next was the dakgaejang! It had a completely different vibe from the kalguksu — perfect for when you're craving a spicy-hot broth. It was packed with chicken and other ingredients, so eating it with rice made for a really satisfying meal.

The broth is on the spicier side, so it suited the kind of day when you want a warm soup dish. If kalguksu alone feels a bit lacking on a given day, ordering dakgaejang as a second dish to share seems like a great idea.

Gyoza dumplings with a chewy skin and juicy filling

And of course, the gyoza dumplings! When you're at a kalguksu place, you end up ordering at least one plate of dumplings, right? The gyoza dumplings had a chewy wrapper with a filling that felt packed full. They're fine on their own, but eating them with the kalguksu broth made them even better.

They were full of juice inside too, so I'd recommend eating them in one bite! The size is also just right to pop into your mouth whole, and biting down makes the juice burst out — so satisfying, and I really enjoyed it haha.

Is Gangnam Gyoja worth it for lunch near Seohyeon Station?

This time I tried three menus together — kalguksu, dakgaejang, and gyoza dumplings. I felt like this is exactly the place to visit on a day when you're craving warm soup food. It's good for a solo bowl of kalguksu, and even better if you visit with others and split the menu haha. Next time I'd love to try the other dishes one by one :)
