🪑 What the dining room at Bossam Ae Kalguksu looks like
Bossam Ae Kalguksu Seongnam Sangdaewon Branch sits right in the Sangdaewon Market alley. There's that distinctive market energy around it, with people coming and going for meals, making it feel like a comfortable spot for locals to drop by. If you're looking for a hearty meal in Sangdaewon-dong, this is worth adding to your list of local restaurants.
🪑 Inside — walking into the restaurant, it's really clean. The brown tones give it a calm, settled feeling that makes for a relaxing meal.

It felt like a place that works whether you're eating solo, with family, or grabbing lunch as an office worker. I especially liked that there's a bossam set meal you can enjoy on your own. Sure enough, during lunch hour a lot of office workers were coming in for the solo bossam set.

It's a good spot for a solo meal, and also great for coming with family or friends for bossam in the evening!

I noticed takeout orders get a ₩3,000 discount! Great combo plus a price cut on top. I'd recommend trying the takeout option too.
📋 Menu and prices at Bossam Ae Kalguksu

Bossam Ae Kalguksu's signature dishes are, as the name says, bossam and kalguksu. The bossam made with gabrisal (pork collar) is the main draw, and ordering it comes with a serving of kalguksu for two — so you get a much more filling spread than bossam alone!
🥬 The self-serve side dish bar

I liked that the refillable side dishes and rice let you eat as much as you want, no limits. And they thoughtfully set up a spot to add sesame oil and roasted seaweed flakes for topping off the kalguksu with egg — that little touch was honestly kind of moving, haha.
🍽️ The full bossam and kalguksu spread on the table
I ordered the gabrisal bossam set. In under 5 minutes, the kalguksu was already set on the table.

It came out looking so neat and pretty! And the portions here are really generous — loads of vegetables too. The kalguksu portion was big as well. It really felt like the owner of Bossam Ae Kalguksu Sangdaewon Branch was pouring everything out for you...
They said the kalguksu is a free extra, but... the broth was refreshing and delicious, more like a main dish than a freebie.
🤤 How the gabrisal bossam tastes: soft, fatty pork neck-belly
The main dish I'd been waiting for arrived! The gabrisal bossam looked so appetizing... a drool-worthy spread from the very first look.

The bossam here is made with gabrisal, giving it a different feel from the usual boiled pork slices. Paired with kimchi and mumallaengi (dried radish strips), you really get the full effect of clean, mild pork against tangy kimchi!
Okay, let's try a bite with rice and mumallaengi. Gabrisal has a good balance of fat and lean meat, so the first bite wasn't dry at all — chewy and soft at the same time... drool...
Two bites, three bites... they just keep coming... it's mild and soft enough that your chopsticks keep going back for more. Eating bossam naturally makes you crave warm broth, and being able to enjoy kalguksu right alongside it here was great.

A bite of bossam, then a spoonful of kalguksu broth — it cleans your palate perfectly and pulls you right back to the bossam!
🥚 Finishing with raw-egg rice porridge
I'd already eaten plenty of bossam and kalguksu, but stopping there felt like it'd be a shame. So at the end I ordered a raw egg to turn the leftover broth into porridge 🍳

With broth this good, the porridge couldn't be anything but delicious. Eating this thoroughly, I finally understood why people searching for a Sangdaewon-dong restaurant or a Seongnam bossam restaurant love this kind of menu setup!

Before I knew it, the restaurant was packed! It was a weekday lunch, yet it was full of customers — proof this is a genuine Sangdaewon bossam favorite!

They gave such a generous amount of kimchi that a lot was left over — a shame to waste, but a good sign. At other places I've run out of kimchi, but here there was plenty to enjoy right to the last bite.

I imagine this feels especially satisfying with a group, sharing bossam and kalguksu together. It's a combo that suits anyone looking for a filling, good-value meal in Sangdaewon-dong.

Next time I'd love to come alone and try the solo set too :) I'm keeping Bossam Ae Kalguksu in mind as a favorite in Sangdaewon-dong and would recommend it 🍜
