Gijang outlet restaurant by the UGG store with no queue: Bueokgan

Bueokgan Restaurant, Shinsegae Simon Busan Premium Outlets is a Western restaurant at the very back of the North zone of the Gijang Shinsegae Outlets in Busan, past the UGG store and on the left. Arriving after the weekend lunch peak, the writer ordered sweet pumpkin soup, napa cabbage Caesar salad, abalone cream risotto and basil margherita, and found the baby chairs, kids' tableware and diaper-changing tables in both restrooms ideal for a family meal. Bueokgan is a solid outlet lunch stop, but the weekend wait is long and there is no set queue system, which makes it confusing.

Marine City Chinese weekend lunch: seafood jjamppong, Bueokgan

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is an authentic Chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor above Subyeon Choego Pork Gukbap on Marine City 3-ro in Haeundae, Busan. At a window seat with an ocean view on a weekend lunch, the paihuanggua (smashed cucumber salad), abalone shrimp fried rice, seafood jjamppong and BUUK jajangmyeon all arrived at once, and the seafood- and vegetable-packed jjamppong broth was the standout. Even a four-year-old niece ate well, so Bueokgan Chinese is an easy pick for a family meal out.

Low & Sweet Bakery is a self-roasting bakery café on Haeri-dan-gil in Haeundae, Busan, open daily from 08:00 to 20:00 with a last order at 19:30. Remembering a long queue here a few years ago, this Thursday evening revisit found plenty of free seats, and today's hand-drip coffee came with a fig financier and an egg tart. Come in the morning or early afternoon for the widest bread selection at Low & Sweet Bakery, or on a weekday evening if you mainly want the calm atmosphere.

Craving hot broth after a workout, the writer ordered the spicy galbitang, which came in a clay pot with three big short rib bones plus mushrooms, scallions and a portion of noodles for one filling bowl. With a separate solo-dining zone and a self-serve bar, Gang Galbitang Seomyeon makes eating alone in Seomyeon easy.

Moshi Moshi Sushi Lotte Department Store Gwangbok is a salmon sushi restaurant on the 10th-floor restaurant floor of the main building in Jung-gu, Busan. Even with a Naver reservation at noon on a weekday, the wait at Moshi Moshi Sushi was about 20 minutes, and the order was salmon salad (24.0), salmon and flounder sushi (27.5) and assorted sushi set A, 10 pieces (18.0). The salmon was soft and the flounder pleasantly chewy, so Moshi Moshi Sushi is worth considering if you want sushi near Lotte Gwangbok.

Three generations — grandmother, mother and daughter — shared the abalone seafood hinoki steam set (23,000 won), which came with creamy abalone innards pot rice, hinoki-steamed seafood, garbisal (pork jowl) bossam, kimchi, tofu, salad and soy-marinated crab. Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae Branch is a Chinese restaurant on the ground floor of a building on Dalmaji-gil 117beon-na-gil in Haeundae, Busan. Black vinegar pork loin sweet and sour pork costs 28,000 won, poached egg pork belly ganjjajang (noodles with black bean sauce) 10,000 won and mapo tofu rice bowl 12,000 won, and even with the sauce poured over it the pork stayed crisp, served alongside fragrant tea-scented water and crunchy jjasai (pickled mustard stem). With tables from two-seaters up to a 7–8 person table and three free parking options, Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae Branch suits both a family outing and a date.
