First photo from a visit to Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu in Pyeongtaek

A new spot in Pyeongtaek that kept catching my eye near the intersection! I love kalguksu (hand-cut noodle soup), so it stood out to me even more, haha. Ever since it opened I'd pass by thinking "oh, a kalguksu place opened here?" and kept meaning to go — and I finally made it happen.

I usually love kalguksu anyway, and these days Doyun has been eating noodles really well too, so this time we came for lunch together as a family.

Where is Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu, and what are the hours and parking?

Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu is at 730 Pyeongnam-ro, 1st floor, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do, and it's open 10:30-21:00. Break time is 14:30-16:30 (no break time on public holidays), and last order is at 20:00.

Parking is available inside the building — park first! You drive into the building and up to park on the upper level. There was plenty of parking space, which was convenient, but the drive up was a bit narrow, so it might feel slightly tricky if you're not used to driving. I went up slowly and parked, then headed into the restaurant. Once inside, I was surprised again — the interior was much bigger than I expected.

How big is the restaurant inside?

A pretty spacious interior

Once inside, I noticed the restaurant was quite spacious and the tables were placed with plenty of room. The tables themselves were also pretty wide, so it was easy to lay out several dishes at once.

Above all, the space felt big enough not just for family outings but also for group visits with several people. It felt like a place where families with babies, like us, could visit comfortably too.

Baby chair brought over by staff

Baby chairs at Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu

When you're eating out with a baby, one thing you quietly care about a lot is the baby chair — and Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu had one ready. As soon as the staff saw we'd come with a baby, they brought over a baby chair right away. Thanks to that, we could sit the baby down and eat a bit more safely.

What comes in the 38,000 won 2-person set?

We ordered the 2-person set (₩38,000)! Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu + napa cabbage dumplings + perilla-leaf medicinal pork

I wanted to try a bunch of things, so I ended up ordering the set that lets you sample several dishes at once. I was really curious about the napa cabbage dumplings, and since we were eating with the baby, I wanted a pork dish too — and it turned out the 2-person set included pork as well.

Doyun has been eating noodles pretty well lately, so I thought it'd be nice for him to have kalguksu too. So instead of ordering separate dishes, I went with the set menu that let us try a bit of everything at once.

What's at the self-serve bar?

The self-serve bar at Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu had two kinds of kimchi, cabbage-radish pickles, chili paste and cheongyang chili peppers, and barley tea. I checked it out while waiting for our order, and there were several types of kimchi ready.

In particular, they had aged kimchi and fresh sour kimchi separately, so anyone who likes sour kimchi would really love it. The kimchi flavor matters a surprising amount when eating kalguksu, right? Haha. Certified kimchi expert here. There was also cabbage pickle, which was sweet but not too sweet, and worked fine for me. Overall it was convenient because you could take as much of each side dish as you needed.

Free kids' rice, plus seaweed the staff brought over

And here's the part I really loved! Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu was genuinely generous even with the baby's food. Since we came with a baby, they gave us a separate kids' rice bowl, and the portion was way bigger than I expected. It didn't even look like a "kids'" portion, lol. I was grateful — it felt like they gave extra so the baby could eat plenty.

But that wasn't the end of it. They even brought out seaweed that we hadn't ordered at all. It was seaweed they had in-house, and they said they figured the baby would like it. I was so touched. It might seem like a small thing, but I could really feel that they were being thoughtful toward customers who came with a child, and that's what I loved most about this. Honestly, seaweed is basically non-negotiable at my baby's table, so having them bring it over made feeding him so much easier.

Pear-leaf boiled pork and odeuragi pickles

The boiled pork was so soft and delicious I fell for it instantly! The meat is tender enough that the baby ate it well too!

Coffee and danssul after the meal

Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu also gives out free coffee after the meal. I saw the moms gathered around something and wondered what it was — coffee, haha. Free coffee after the meal too~ wow.

Free post-meal coffee available at the restaurant

Danssul (sweet rice drink)~ ₩3,000, free if you write a review. Coffee's great, but we went for the danssul~ At first I thought it was alcohol, but it's sikhye (sweet rice punch), haha, hehehe.
